The Wonderland Club
Paedophile rings are largely a myth. Unfortunately, the important word in that sentence is largely. This "Panorama" documentary covers the investigation into what at that time was the largest and arguably the most odious such ring, one which operated almost but not entirely on-line. The Wonderland Club had an international membership, and while most of its members only traded pictures, some produced them.
Girls as well as boys were targeted, indeed at times so were babies. Be warned, some of the details herein are stomach-churning, none more so than the glib interview with one of its English members, the admittedly none too bright David Hines, who shortly after this programme was made was given a two and a half year sentence, clearly not a day too long, although the maximum sentence for such crimes has since been increased.
As if the pictures and abuse were not enough, at least one victim appears to have been murdered, a young Portuguese boy who disappeared in 1998.
The one downside to this programme and such investigations is the often none too veiled claim that the Internet needs to be censored. It would be far better to increase the sentences for these sort of crimes as in the USA where at least one of this odious club's members will never see daylight again.
