I am reviewing the fifth episode of season 1 of the Night Court revival. The episode is called The Apartment.
This episode is the quintessential definition of a filler episode where like your show has been on for like 5 seasons and you've run all out of ideas so you have an unimportant A and B story just to fill up 20 minutes. That is exactly what this feels like.
This is easily the worst episode of the first ten. With that in mind, let's look at what works in this episode. For starters, John Laroquette gives a great performance as always, but I must admit, this is his weakest performance so far. Also the show's lavish sets are maintained and that dependable laugh track is on hand.
That is where the positives end! What did not work were the characters of Olivia, Abby, and Gurgs. And , once again, poor Neil was given nothing to do. This episode actually had a real visual gag for the first time since The Nighthawks but it was so poorly filmed that all of its impact was lost. I think that the logical response after watching this episode would be "Who cares?"
Next up, I will be reviewing the sixth episode entitled Justice Buddies. No, that is not another Air Bud spinoff.
Stay Tuned!
