The Oscar chances for Best Costume Design frontrunners “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Oppenheimer” were bolstered by their nominations for the 26th Costume Designer Guild Awards on January 4. The Cdga will be held February 21, 2024, at Neuehouse Hollywood.
While “Barbie” was nominated in the sci-fi/fantasy category — and should prevail over “Haunted Mansion,” “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire” — the other four compete in the period category against “Napoleon,” with “Poor Things” as the clear favorite here.
Meanwhile, the contemporary contenders include “American Fiction,” “May December,” “Nyad,” “Renfield,” and “Saltburn.” None is expected to make the final Oscar cut, but “Saltburn” is the flashy favorite here.
In terms of the Oscar race, it looks like a feminist battle between Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster “Barbie” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.

Season 3 of "The Mandalorian" took Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) to new heights and lows as she fought to unite all of the remaining Mandalorians under one cause. That's no easy task, especially given the bad blood between the old-school Mandos who never remove their masks and the more modern ones who let their skin breathe occasionally, and it's made all the more difficult because of her past interactions with her former Mandalorian crew. In episode 6, "Guns for Hire," Bo-Katan and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal et al.) end up doing some mercenary work in order to find the Mandalorians Bo-Katan was traveling with back in season 2. Once they finally catch up with the other Mandalorians, led by Axe Woves (Simon Kassianides), they aren't exactly glad to see her. Woves is pretty upset about her losing the Darksaber, and he isn't willing to listen to her plea for the Mandalorians to unite.

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
Before The Mandalorian season 3, few Star Wars fans would have ever even considered a potentially tragic end to Din Djarin’s story on the show. Or an end at all. After all, Pedro Pascal’s stoic bounty hunter with a heart of gold has quickly become one of the most beloved and popular characters in a franchise that doesn’t often kill off its valuable IP. Yet, for some viewers, season 3 may have set the stage for just that: Din’s exit from The Mandalorian as the show, and the Mandoverse as a whole, moves on to a new stage.
The penultimate episode of season 3, “The Spies,” ends with Din stuck in a dire situation. Captured by Moff Gideon’s commandos and dragged deeper into the top-secret Imperial installation on Mandalore, we don’t know what plans the villain has for Din...

As season three of Disney+’s The Mandalorian nears its finale, those that watched “Guns for Hire”–and, arguably the entire season–have had no problem unholstering their own, as critics and audiences alike have targeted the most recent season as the show’s worst.
Let’s look at some digestible numbers for the episode in question. The IMDb rating for “Guns for Hire”, The Mandalorian season three episode which aired on April 5th, currently sits at a 6.4/10, by far the lowest for any episode of the series so far. The previous low was season one’s “The Gunslinger”, a 7.5/10. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, “Guns for Hire” has an 81% from critics, while, for comparison’s sake, “The Gunslinger” has a 74%.
Taking the series as a whole, looking at Rotten Tomatoes, seasons one and two both sit at a 93% from critics, while season three of The Mandlorian currently holds an 87%–not a serious drop,...

Last week at Star Wars Celebration, Disney released a flurry of exciting announcements, such as an Ahsoka trailer and three new movies (which are really, truly going to happen this time, promise!). Yet while fans embraced the news, the crown jewel of Disney’s Star Wars TV universe — The Mandalorian — was arguably having its worst week ever.
The show’s latest episode, “Guns for Hire,” scored the drama’s weakest fan reviews (via IMDb) since the neo-Western sci-fi drama launched four years ago. The episode wasn’t entirely an outlier, as fan gripes about the show’s third season have been rising in general, with the series’ Rotten Tomatoes user reviews this season plummeting from their usual low-90s perch to just 57 percent and its IMDb average similarly (though not as sharply) ebbing downward.

When we first meet Axe Woves (Simon Kassianides) in season 2 of The Mandalorian, he’s working with Bo-Katan Kryze to obtain the Darksaber and unite Mandalorians under her leadership. While we don’t learn much about Axe in his debut episode, it’s clear that he and Bo-Katan have a deep respect for each other. This makes the big season 3 premiere reveal even more devastating: Axe, Koska Reeves (Mercedes Varnado), and the other Nite Owls have left Bo-Katan to become mercenaries after she failed to obtain the Darksaber from Moff Gideon.
After everything the Mandalorians have gone through with the destruction of their homeworld and near genocide of their people, it makes sense that Axe and the others would see Bo-Katan’s failure as another sign that their people are doomed to remain scattered across the galaxy. Even Bo-Katan had essentially given...

While opinions might be split on The Mandalorian season 3, at least fans can almost unanimously agree that “Guns for Hire” is the most Star Wars-y episode of television to ever grace the galaxy far, far away. It had a bit of everything: cameos from Jack Black and Lizzo, a villainous turn from Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd, a Romeo & Juliet romance between fish people, faux-politics, a climactic duel, and even a twist on the classic cantina – this time, just for droids.
However, this colorful outing from returning director Bryce Dallas Howard also does a disservice to Din Djarin. In fact, the character takes a major step backwards in “Guns for Hire,” ditching two and a half seasons worth of character development while trying to solve a mystery with Bo-Katan on Plazir-15. During the investigation, Din seems to forget everything...

The Mandalorian this week went full on cameo power, bringing in Jack Black and Lizzo for small roles in the latest episode, Guns For Hire. The pair shared some fun behind-the-scenes pics and video, so take a look…
Directed by returning veteran Mando shot-caller Bryce Dallas Howard, and written by Jon Favreau, the episode sees
Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu (himself) are accompanied by Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) to the planet Plazir-15. It's a place with a democratically elected leadership in the form of a Duchess (played by Lizzo) and her lover, Captain Bombardier. There was also genre favourite Christopher Lloyd, here playing Commissioner Helgait.
Lizzo shared some photos here:

If there's one thing the Naboo Queen-Senator Padmé Amidala has taught us in the "Star Wars" galaxy, you're not a true politician unless you're worthy of the fashion runway. Her iconic prequel trilogy wardrobe blazed a fashion trail for her fellow galactic politicians — and cosplayers at Star Wars Celebration.
"The Mandalorian" season 3 continues Padmé's fashionista legacy by introducing a regentess played by singer Lizzo (who herself graces the concert stage as a dancing and flute-playing fashion icon). In season 3, episode 6 "Guns for Hire," Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), his adorable foundling Grogu, and Lady Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) venture to Plazir-15 where they are greeted by its lavish regents, the Duchess and Captain Bombardier (Jack Black). The Mandalorians — save for the enchanted Grogu — find themselves weirded out by the upper-crust atmosphere and out of place in their beskar armor.

Fans of The Mandalorian have been left divided by a pair of high-profile guest stars in the latest episode of the Star Wars spin-off.
Released on Disney+ on Wednesday (5 April), the episode “Chapter 22: Guns for Hire”, saw Jack Black and Lizzo play an eccentric couple.
The pop musician and School of Rock star appeared as “The Duchess” and her partner “Captain Bombardier” respectively, two characters whom Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Grogu and Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) meet on their travels.
The episode also featured Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd, who played Commissioner Helgait.
However, it was Black and Lizzo who drew the strongest reactions from the Star Wars fanbase, with viewers sharing their thoughts on social media after watching.
Pointint to a scene in which Lizzo’s character awards Grogu (aka “Baby Yoda”) with a knighthood, one fan wrote: “Lizzo just knighted Baby yoda aka grogu. What is happening in Star Wars?...

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 6.
We are rapidly approaching the conclusion of "The Mandalorian" season 3 on Disney+, and the sixth episode, titled "Guns for Hire," did some real work in setting up a grand finale for Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and the rest of the Mandalorians as they look to reclaim their homeworld of Mandalore. But this episode took some pretty unique detours en route to getting the Darksaber back in Bo-Katan's hands. The cold open of the episode told a tale of forbidden love in short order, while also bringing us an obscure little connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe along the way — though you'd be forgiven for not catching it the first time around.

The gloves are off and the blades are drawn, as The Mandalorian season 3 just confirmed a theory that’s bugged fans for weeks. In fact, the show just tied up story threads that go all the way back to when Din Djarin defeated Moff Gideon and inadvertently claimed the Darksaber in the season 2 finale.
Much like Jon Snow not wanting to sit on the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones, Djarin has never wanted to lead the Mandalorian people and rule (what’s left) of Mandalore. There are plenty of willing candidates out there, and although the writing was on the wall since the start of season 3, it’s still great to see Bo-Katan Kryze finally step up as the new leader of these Beskar-clad warriors.

Well, that was a mostly welcome change of pace.
In a broad sense, “Guns for Hire” fits the Mission of the Week mode that The Mandalorian does so well, but it does it in a couple of unusual ways. It is both as comedic as the series seems capable of (or, at least, interested in) going, and it is basically a buddy cop show, with Mando and Bo-Katan making like Lennie Briscoe and one of his many partners.

Droids took center stage on the latest episode of "The Mandalorian," at least in terms of the morality and science fiction presented on the show. Oftentimes, "Star Wars" has skirted around the issue of droid rights and the morality involved in using droids for labor, but this installment of "The Mandalorian" took it on as the undercurrent for the episode. Naturally, it borrowed from the work of Philip K. Dick, featuring touchstones from "Blade Runner" throughout the episode.
Titled "Guns for Hire," the episode sees Din Djarin and Lady Bo-Katan Kryze tasked by the elected rulers of Plazir-15 with investigating an odd rash of droid malfunctions plaguing their planet.
They live in a veritable utopia where the droids handle all of the labor, leaving the organic beings to lives of art and leisure. What's causing these violent malfunctions...

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
If you were wondering whether The Mandalorian season 3 would deliver the same number of cameos as past seasons, it’s safe to say that “Guns for Hire” has more than answered your question. The episode, which takes Din, Grogu, and Bo-Katan to the planet of Plazir-15 on a search for Mandalorians, is absolutely full of guest appearances that will take fans by surprise. There are three particularly shocking ones.
But this episode isn’t just about cameos. There are also plenty of easter eggs and references to other Star Wars stories sprinkled throughout “Guns for Hire.” Here are the ones we found…
Lizzo as The Duchess
Melissa Viviane Jefferson, better known as the talented singer-songwriter and rapper Lizzo, makes her Star Wars debut in this episode as The Duchess of Plazir-15. Lizzo is of course one of the most popular artists performing today,...

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 6, "Guns for Hire."
One of the single biggest questions coming out of the second season of "The Mandalorian" was how the ownership of the Darksaber would shake out. The Darksaber itself is the blade of a Mandalorian Jedi, Tarre Vizsla, built centuries ago. Tarre Vizsla was the first Mandalorian Jedi and had a place of respect in the Mandalorian culture. When he died, the Jedi kept his blade — the unique, black-bladed Darksaber — in their temple. Later, the Mandalorians broke in and took it back.
The blade itself got passed down among the leaders of Mandalore. It was said that the leadership of Mandalore and ownership of the Darksaber had to be taken in open combat, but that tradition ended with the installation of the government of Duchess Satine Kryze. She worked to put the warrior past of Mandalore behind them.

The Mandalorian this week served up several “Special” guest stars, answered a big question about the Darksaber, and for good measure gave Grogu a shining moment.
“Guns for Hire,” directed by franchise vet Bryce Dallas Howard, opened by catching us up with Axe Woves, who since peacing out on Bo-Katan is now in command of Moff Gideon’s light cruiser and doing work-for-hire with Koska Reeves et al. We first see Axe pulling over a Quarren captain who had abducted a Mon Calamari prince (with whom she was having a love affair).

Chapter 22 of "The Mandalorian" begins by alluding to a much larger story than we're privy to. We're shown a freighter that bears all of the design hallmarks of coming from the planet Mon Cala and discover that a Quarren crew is in charge of it.
For many ages, the Quarren and the Mon Calamari have shared a planet, but little else. They've been locked in conflict and at odds with each other. It feels like it would be the perfect planet for two aquatic species to have a "Romeo and Juliet" love story and Jon Favreau delivers on it in this new chapter. Very quickly, we discover that there's a Mon Cal prince aboard the ship and the Mandalorian privateers, led by Axe Woves, have been hired by his father to return him home. He doesn't want to...

Great Scott! The Mandalorian served up a “Special” guest star or three with the sixth episode of Season 3.
The episode title, “Guns For Hire,” referred to what Bo-Katan’s Nite-Owl pals are now up to, but it just as much could be a nod to the many unannounced guest stars, which rolled out throughout what was arguably — faint praise alert? — the best episode of the season, directed by franchise vet Bryce Dallas Howard. (Our full recap is coming soon, Sir Grogu!)

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian review contains spoilers.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 6: Chapter 22
All of the momentum generated by last week’s rousing fireworks show of an episode, “The Pirate,” is unfortunately lost this week. “Guns For Hire” is an awkward, oddly paced urban detective story whose handful of bright spots are marred by a middling plot that plays out like a video game side mission, stilted exposition, and two of what are possibly the most distracting pop culture cameos one could conjure up in 2023.
The episode opens with a Quarren freight ship that’s been hunted down by Axe Woves, Koska Reeves, and the rest of the Mando mercenaries that split from Bo-Katan prior to this season’s events. The scene is meant to establish that the maskless Mandalorians are morally and ethically blurring the lines in comparison to the Tribe, with Axe being blatantly presented as an antagonist despite the fact that,...

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 6 "Guns for Hire."
Bryce Dallas Howard has a proven track record of directing some of the best episodes of "The Mandalorian," and her latest episode in the show, titled "Guns For Hire," continues to deliver on all fronts. Episode 5 ended on a tense, massive cliffhanger, and this particular installment amps up the fun while committing to resolving major plotlines, such as the rightful owner of the Darksaber.
Here, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) embark on an unwitting buddy-cop adventure on Plazir-15, ruled by elected leaders Captain Bombardier (Jack Black!) and the Duchess (Lizzo!). The Din-Bo combination never fails to entertain, and "Guns For Hire" allows both of them to share the spotlight, and lets Din shine in his own show after ages.
Apart from some surprising, yet pleasant cameos -- a wild Christopher Lloyd stars as covert...

Finally after the various teaser trailers that were drip fed to us over the past week we finally have our first proper look at Far Cry 5 in the announcement trailer above.
Relocating the action a little closer to home in the fictional Hope County, Montana, players will take on the role of a new junior deputy whose arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult called the Project at Eden’s Gate. With the county under their control you’ll join forces with residents to form the Resistance as you do whatever it takes to disrupt their plans and liberate the community.
All sorts of toys will be available including planes for aerial dogfights plus iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs and boats for those who prefer their battles at a lower altitude. A wide array of weapons will also be at hand ranging from guns...

Sticking to the date provided earlier this week, Ubisoft has released the reveal trailer for Fay Cry 5, confirming that the sequel will be arriving on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on February 27, 2018. We’ve still got a long wait ahead of us before Hope County welcomes us through its gates, then, but no matter, there’s plenty of tantalizing new details provided with today’s info dump for us to sift through and digest.
Top of that list is confirmation that Far Cry 5‘s campaign will be playable entirely in co-op with one other player, meaning you won’t have to go it alone as you attempt to weed out a fanatical doomsday cult that’s taken up residence in the idyllic countryside setting. You can, of course, still opt to go down the lone wolf route, but the introduction of co-op will, for a lot of people, make this...

When one thinks of John Sturges’ “The Magnificent Seven,” many noteworthy fight scenes may come to mind. However, few are probably aware of the fight that took place between lawyers, producers and stars over the film’s rights. With Antoine Fuqua’s updated version of the film set to be released this week, it is worth looking at the difficulties that went into making the original.

Beatle is a quirky loner who refuses to live by society’s rules. Her only human contact is with her psychiatrist and the stripper/hooker she employs once a week. Everything changes the night she meets Athena, a suicidal blonde with a secret.
Guns for Hire is one of those films where you are absolutely sure what is going on, right up until the big reveal at the end, where you suddenly realise you did not have a clue at all what was going on. The twist within a twist within a twist is done so well, I actually did not have a clue that it was coming and was too busy enjoying Guns for Hire for what it was.
