Great Episode

No politics. Just pure action. However, nothing groundbreaking though because I felt like this cop-as-parametric act has been done before... oh right, Jubal went in as a doctor one time in a previous episode and the bad guy ended up in the same fate.

I feel like the FBI and L&O franchises are recycling a lot of the same plots: bombs, hostages, etc. Anyway, I still enjoyed this episode.

Nina really contributes well to the show. It was a good idea to bring her back to make her a main cast member. I'm glad they are giving her some decent screen time. I hope Nina gets to stay on the show when Maggie returns.

Apathy is far reaching
CrimeDrama128 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am constantly reminded by CBS that they cancelled the season 4 finale without warning and never apologized or explained. The only thing I learned was the episode storyline involved youth violence - set to air the same day as the school massacre in Uvalde, TX. CBS couldn't have handled it worse. It appears the people who masterminded that finale also wrote this episode. An Ivy League dropout resorts to violent robberies after his girlfriend is kidnapped by drug dealers. Why? Because the dropout, who was a drug runner, flushed a bunch of drugs to avoid being arrested with them. It's not original and begs the question - is this the best CBS can do? The romance or whatever it is between Agents Chase and Scola is ridiculous. What's not to like about Chase? However, Scola knows how to be professional. I don't buy that he didn't get it when Chase told him the morning-after that she wanted to keep it private - which means nothing happens at work! Even character development needs to be believable in a crime drama. The writers are taking liberties that are actually hurting them. If I worked on a CBS show I would feel so much pressure to help improve the networks image. However, it's hard to tell if anyone cares about it.

Losers Never Shoot Back
Johnny_West5 November 2022
At one point, the main villain has been shot, and his way-more-psychotic girlfriend (played by the incredibly trashy looking Amee Spring Fortier) takes the gun from his hand and takes a hostage.

As she is screaming at the FBI, nobody puts a bullet in her brain. As she is shooting at the FBI, nobody shoots back. As she is running into the auto store totally exposed, nobody shoots her. A couple of minutes later, Zacko calls the store, and she is right up against the window, yelling at the FBI (and the phone), and nobody puts her down.

Eventually, the FBI do the fake "EMT going in to help her boyfriend," the main villain. This has been done since at least the original Hawaii 5-0 back in the 1960s. Worse than that, it is clear that agent Chase (Shantel VanShanten) has no clue where to even take the guy's pulse.

I am not sure if that was just horrible acting or they wanted to emphasize how much she was likely to get killed if the psycho girlfriend thought that her boyfriend had died. Considering that VanShanten gave him zero medical care, he should have died.

So the typical resolution happens. Unfortunately the drug-dealing college drop-out boyfriend did not die. Scola is now getting it on with Chase, contrary to office policy, so every time she takes a step he runs over to ask if she is OK. Really lame romance. They need to take Scola out of the closet and pair him up with Zacko who is another guy that never has a girlfriend.

The only good thing about this episode was that whiny Missy Peregym is still on maternity leave and was not around to make negative comments about the USA and the FBI.
