“Perd Hapley is the lynchpin of an unlikely TV multiverse” is the name of the article you’re reading. And it will begin … right now.
NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation features the deepest bench of hilarious supporting characters you’ll ever see outside of The Simpsons‘ Springfield. But even among a murderer’s row of comedic talent like Joan Callamezzo (Mo Collins), Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (Ben Schwartz), and Tammy II Swanson (Megan Mullally), there’s one resident of Pawnee who stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Local news broadcaster Perd Hapley (Jay Jackson) is quite simply a TV icon. Blessed with a very distinct vocal style (that the Parks and Rec fandom Wiki accurately categorizes as “semantically redundant”), Perd often turns up on Parks and Recreation to help describe what’s happening … literally.

The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian, and for the last month they have been assembling the cast. We’ve previously heard that Jack Quaid (Scream 2022), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), Lukas Gage (You), Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever), and Sophie Thatcher (The Boogeyman) will be playing roles in the film – and now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Rupert Friend (Asteroid City) has also been cast in Companion.
New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. While doing press for the recent Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman, star Sophie Thatcher (who is also known for playing the role of teen Natalie on the survival thriller series Yellowjackets) let it be known that she is a major fan of the horror genre. Now she’s continuing to prove it with her career choices, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that she’s following up The Boogeyman by signing on to star in the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian.
Thatcher’s Companion co-stars will include Jack Quaid (Scream 2022), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), Lukas Gage (You), and Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever).

Megan Suri, who will soon be seen in both the final season of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and the horror film It Lives Inside, has signed on to join Jack Quaid (Scream 2022) in the cast of the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team that was behind the horror hit Barbarian. At the start of this year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. And they gave a greenlight to the sci-fi thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger, putting the film on the fast track to production. The executives at New Line Cinema were clearly blown away by last year’s horror release Barbarian (watch it Here) – which was distributed by 20th Century Studios – as they have made it very clear over the last week that they are eager to be in business with the creative team behind that film. They made an eight figure deal with writer/director Zach Cregger to ensure that his next movie – something called Weapons – will be a New Line Cinema project. They signed a first look deal with Barbarian producers BoulderLight Pictures so they will develop high concept genre properties for the company. And now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that New Line Cinema has put a thriller called Companion on the fast track to production, with Cregger producing alongside BoulderLight and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

Adapting the Marvel comic of the same name, Disney Animation's Big Hero 6 hits the big screen in November (in America. We on this side of the pond have to wait till January), and so far we have seen very little from the project, save for a teaser and brief video (here and here). Now, the full voice cast has been announced, and what a voice cast it is, with some extremely reliable comedy actors, best known for their t.v. work, making up the titular super hero team. Hiro Hamada: Ryan Potter (Fred: The Show) Baymax: Scott Adsit (30 Rock) Fred: T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley, Transformers: Age of Extinction) Go Go Tomago: Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) Honey Lemon: Genesis Rodriguez (Entourage, The Last Stand) Wasabi: Damon Wayans, Jr. (New Girl, The Other Guys) Rounding out the cast are Maya Rudolph as Aunt Cass,...

In a Q&A video, Fred creator Lucas Cruikshank nonchalantly announced he is gay. The 19 year old comedic actor addressed his fans' collective speculation about his sexuality by stating, "I'm gay. I feel so weird saying it on camera. But my family and friends have known for like three years. I just haven't felt the need to announce it on the Internet." Cruikshank, whose hyperactive six year old alter ego was once the most popular character on YouTube, came out while fielding questions alongside his friend, Jennifer Veal, herself a TV actress on the Disney Channel's Jessie. While discussing his sexuality, Cruikshank used Veal as an example of our culture's double standards by asking her, "How come you don't have to make a video saying you're straight?" Fred, launched when Cruikshank was just 13 years old, was once the most subscribed channel on YouTube, but its star waned after it aired...

Even if you don’t know the name Lucas Cruikshank, if you’ve seen any Nickelodeon at all, chances are you recognize that voice he sported in all of those Fred shows and films. And whether that voice appeals to you or is the verbal equivalent of scraping a chalkboard, Cruikshank is back on Nickelodeon — without the elfin squeak — in a new series, Marvin Marvin, premiering Saturday, Nov. 24 at 8:30pm Et/Pt. I talked to the former Fred: The Show star about his new series, what it’s like to leave Fred behind, and what he has going on for the [...]...

Before you start hyperventilating into a bag and unlocking your vault of Severus Snape fan fic, read that headline again. It’s Alan Ritchson who has been cast in Catching Fire, not Alan Rickman. We know; our brains played the same trick. While we would have loved to see Hans Gruber slouch around the Quarter Quells alongside Enobaria and Brutus, we’re sure Mr. Ritchson will do an equally good job. According to IMDb, the guy appeared on American Idol in 2004 and was already playing Aquaman on Smallville by 2005, so you know he’s almost certainly got the goods.
Of course, the man who will be a District 1 career tribute come next November has also played “Expired Cow” on Fred: The Show and the male lead in the upcoming Rebel Wilson comedy Super Fun Night, so who knows where his strengths lie exactly. Either way, we happily welcome the Blue Mountain State...

Five-song Ep due June 26 as Crow, 14, hits the road with Big Time Rush.

When 13-year-old Rachel Crow made her shocking exit on the first season of Simon Cowell's American version of "X Factor," the typically unflappable judge promised the weepy teen that her ride was not over. Those pledges didn't immediately dry her tears or cushion the blow, but Cowell has made good on his vow in the form of now-14-year-old Crow's upcoming debut Ep.
After finishing fifth, Crow will actually get music out before season one finisher Melanie Amaro, who is still working on her debut album. Crow's self-titled five-song Ep will be released digitally on June 26 and feature songs produced by a number of veteran hitmakers, including Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie), Matt Squire (One Direction, 3Oh!3) and Jonas Jeberg (The Wanted, Pussycat Dolls).

In a pretty quick turnaround, I’ve learned that the network has picked up comedy pilot Marvin, Marvin toplined by Fred star Cruikshank to series with a whopping 26-episode order. The network is expected to make the announcement at its upfront presentation later today. The series order comes four weeks into the run of Fred: The Show, a live-action, short-form comedy series created by and starring YouTube standout Cruikshank as his signature character Fred Figglehorn. I hear that Nickelodeon is extending that series of 11-minute segments with a new 28-episode order on top of the original 21-episode pickup.
