He Has Too Much Power

I also agree with another reviewer that having a magician at the computer detracts from the tension that could exist with a few surprises. Bosch must have a ton of money stashed away to keep up what he does. There is too much focus on Maddie and her experience. Not that her reaction isn't valid; it's sidetracking a real investigation. One can sense that at some point she is going to explode. She is excited to get back on the street on the one hand, and is shaking all over. Both Honey and Bosch are sitting on the edge of disaster as the FBI has it in for them, and Bosch's case of the guy accused of murdering his wife has brought in a couple bad boy policemen. I suppose it will take the whole season to rectify all of this. That's fine if they do it well.

Another show that dies of lazy, poor writing.

Bosch: Legacy S02E04 (Musso and Frank) leaves a lot to be desired, doubling down on the flaws that have always plagued the series. One can't help but notice how the writing and direction have always felt stiff and formulaic, but in this episode, it's evident things are deteriorating even further.

The inclusion of a "hacker" who magically grants Bosch access to any information he needs is not just unrealistic but downright lazy. In a world that's increasingly tech-savvy, such writing feels outdated and is a disservice to viewers in 2023, who demand more complexity and authenticity.

Madison Lintz, a true beauty on screen, delivers a mediocre performance. It's hard to fault her entirely, given the lackluster material she's working with. One can't help but wonder what range she could display with a more nuanced script and effective direction.

Madison's reaction when her boyfriend offers to make pancakes felt like she was portraying a 10-year younger girl. Women at that age don't carry themselves like that. At all.

Then there's the pacing issue. The episode is filled with too many scenes that serve as mere status updates, often consisting of two or three characters engaged in dialogue against a slowly panning camera and static backdrop. This format robs the episode of any dynamism it could have had.

Where is the suspense or any semblance of emotional range? Action, intrigue, sadness, and happiness all seem to be conspicuously absent. The show's muted tone should not be mistaken for 'realistic'; it's more a symptom of uninspired storytelling.

In summary, S02E04 of Bosch: Legacy feels like a missed opportunity to elevate a series that, while promising, falls flat due to its own set of recurring issues.

Still trying to like it, but there are problems

Would you believe that a lawyer would be pulled over by cops, and then would answer the following 2 questions: Where are you coming from? How much did you have to drink? No lawyer in this country would answer those questions to a cop at a roadside stop. Yet super lawyer Honey Chandler does. Give me a break.

That's not an important issue in itself, but indicative of the lazy, silly writing that we are seeing pop up all over the place. I would really like to see them try to portray Maddie as a cop without having to drive her plot line with her "on the edge" psych issues. How about letting her be a regular person who has cop drama, and not a head-case with cop drama. Don't the writers have confidence they can do better by this character?

The list of disappointments is long. I wish the quality of Bosch (pre-final season) could return.
