James Gunn has advised Joe Manganiello to consider moving on from his role in the Dceu. The 47-year-old actor portrayed Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, making brief appearances in both Justice League and The Snyder Cut. He was also slated to star in Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman film.
Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke in Justice League
Apart from that, there were talks of a potential standalone Deathstroke movie, for which Manganiello even had a screenplay prepared. Despite DC Comics’ interest in the screenplay, Gunn suggested he let go of any potential plans for the character.
James Gunn Convinced Joe Manganiello to Move On from Deathstroke
With James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe with Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, the possibility for Joe Manganiello to reprise his role as Deathstroke has been less. However, the actor still had hopes for introducing an origin story for the DC villain.

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.
While Snyder has worked with many A-listers, he reportedly got a call from the legendary star Tom Cruise early in his career while he had just finished 300. The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.

TikTok is using AI to increase its already significant influence in the music world. The ByteDance-owned platform has launched AI Song, a tool that writes music and lyrics based on user suggestions.
AI Song is currently available to a limited number of users. TikTok told TechCrunch that the new feature is powered by Bloom, a large language model that informs AI Song’s lyrical decisions. The tool pairs those words with music it pulls from a preexisting audio library. At launch, AI Song can deliver tunes across three genres: Pop, hip-hop, and Edm.
A TikTok spokesperson told The Verge that AI Song is still in the testing phase, and since it doesn’t actually write music itself, it could get a new name soon. “It’s not technically an AI song generator,” the spokesperson said. “Any music used is from a pre-saved catalog created within the business.”

In a little over a decade, Disney has released a dozen films with female protagonists that are nothing like their good old princesses from back in the day. I suppose as a Zillennial who is still a child at heart, I’ve had the chance to enjoy both Disney’s iconic classics as well as whatever you want to call the stuff that came out post-2010. While earlier there was always a charming prince to save the day, today’s Disney female leads are all about saving the day themselves. I do love a girlboss character who knows exactly how to navigate the world around her and put evil villains in their place, but I’d say it’s wishful thinking if you’re looking for something like that in today’s Disney. For those who enjoyed Wish, and specifically Asha’s dorky naivety, then this list might just be what you’re looking for.

By 2013, Idina Menzel had long established herself as a formidable Broadway star, having starred in the original productions of Rent and Wicked. She’d had some small-screen success with a recurring role on Glee, and she’d gotten some big-screen experience with the Rent film and Enchanted. But none of those vehicles propelled her career into the stratosphere like voicing the character of Elsa in the animated film Frozen. The Frozen song Let It Go became her signature song — not to mention a Top 5 pop hit. Of course, Menzel also returned to voice Elsa in Frozen II and is expected to return for the two upcoming Frozen sequels, as well. We’ve spoken to Menzel many times over the years, and she told us she’s extremely thankful to Disney for giving her the opportunity to do Frozen. A remix of themes, tropes and references to other – and better – Disney classics, Wish is a hollow pandering to die-hard fans for the studio’s 100th birthday. It’s so derivative and bland that one wouldn’t be surprised if Disney announced it was the first movie written and directed by artificial intelligence.
The latest animated offering from the Mouse House, the fairy tale is centered on Asha (Ariana DeBose), a young girl living in the magical land of Rosas, where King Magnifico (Chris Pine) has the power to grant anyone’s wish. Upon their eighteenth birthday, all citizens of Rosas give their deepest-felt wishes to the king, who may choose to make them come true.
But Asha learns, of course, that Magnifico deems himself the only person worthy of understanding whose wishes are deserving of being granted, and the truth is that most people are giving up the deepest...

What does it mean to be a Disney Princess? This could be a question regarding corporate decisions, as the Walt Disney Company has a specific classification for their "Princess Line" media franchise and toy line, but it's also a bit existential. Does a character have to be canonically royal to be considered a Disney Princess, or are they something else entirely? As it turns out — there are rules to be considered an official Princess, with Disney currently recognizing 13 characters with the distinction. She must play a central role, cannot be introduced in a sequel, must be royal by birth or marriage (or perform a heroic deed), must be human/human-appearing, and the film can't be a flop or unbelievable hit.
Elsa and Anna are both so popular that they are not lumped in together with the Princesses, and heroine figures like Alice (of Wonderland...

So most of the big animation studios have sent us their big 2023 features already. Last weekend Dreamworks sent out those music-lovin’ Trolls into the multiplex, while Sony “kicked off” the flood of flicks early this Summer with another trek across the Spider-Verse, followed quickly by the fine folks at Pixar with their Elemental. Yes, they’re still a Disney “brand”, but what about the big “kahuna, the “Mouse House” themselves? Though they suffered from a major stumble with Strange World last Winter, they’re bouncing back in a big way. After all, it’s the official 100th anniversary, so this is a return and in many ways a tribute to, the fantasy themes that were such a big part of those original full-length films. Thinking about it that way, the title makes a whole lotta’ sense because the plot of many of them centered around a Wish.

It’s become a holiday tradition for Disney to release an animated movie around Thanksgiving, and this year is no different. “Wish,” a musical origin story for the Wishing Star that so many Disney characters have wished upon before, is expected to lead box office charts over the busy weekend.
But it won’t be all Disney, all the time, like it was last year when two of the studio’s offerings, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Strange World,” topped the box office. Moviegoers will be able to feast on several titles, including another newcomer, Ridley Scott’s historical epic “Napoleon,” and leftovers like “The Hunger Games” prequel “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and “Trolls Band Together.” A few indies, such as Emerald Fennell’s steamy thriller “Saltburn” and Alexander Payne’s feel-good drama “The Holdovers,” will expand nationwide.

“I honestly was concerned that it was over for me,” Billie Eilish confesses at a table with Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Jon Batiste, Cynthia Erivo and Julia Michaels, who came together to discuss their songwriting prowess and process. “We’d been trying and it wasn’t doing what it usually would do in me. I was honestly like, ‘Damn, maybe I hit my peak and I don’t know how to write anymore?’ ” Struggling for inspiration, the 21-year-old had hit a wall, until Greta Gerwig called in January with an assignment: Write a song for Barbie. The result was the emotional and scene-stealing “What Was I Made For?” that Eilish wrote with her brother and musical partner, Finneas. “Greta saved me, really, honestly,” Eilish says. “It brought us out of it and immediately we were inspired and wrote so much more after that.” A frontrunner for best original song at the 2024 Oscars,...

In an era when artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, a surprising contender has emerged – the world of animated storytelling. Now, with AI-driven tools like Dall-e 3, Bing Image Creator, Stable Diffusion, and Midjourney taking center stage, Disney and Pixar find themselves both intrigued and challenged by this new age of digital artistry.

There aren’t a lot of precedents in pop music for the pairing of Billie Eilish and Finneas, when it comes to brother-and-sister performing or songwriting duos. But in the world of music for films, it might not be too soon to start considering a comparison with a very famous married duo: Alan and Marilyn Bergman, the long-reigning king and queen of movie theme songs. The Bergmans weren’t a fully self-contained songwriting unit; they primarily worked as lyricists, joining up with outside composers like Michel Legrand or Marvin Hamlisch on Oscar-winning material like “The Windmills of Your Mind,” “The Way We Were” and the song score of “Yentl.” But it’s their names that are synonymous with film songs like few others’. Could it be that the O’Connells are following in their footsteps?

We all know that Adam Sandler likes working with people he knows. The movies he produces with his production company Happy Madison regularly feature Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider, and other cast members from his Saturday Night Live days. Many of his movies also feature supporting turns from guys you only see in Happy Madison flicks, like Alan Covert and Peter Dante. And, of course, he loves to cast Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore as his love interests.
So it’s no surprise that Sandler’s latest Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzah sees him once again paired with Idina Menzel, who played his wife in Uncut Gems. As Disney celebrates its centenary – and a decade of Frozen shows no sign of dimming Let It Go’s hold on tots – we remember the cursed cats, R&b hounds and self-actualisation anthems that defined our childhoods
According to Discogs.com, Ronco’s Greatest Hits of Walt Disney album came out in 1975: I would have been four or five when my parents bought it. It didn’t have the desired effect. For an Order that was supposed to kill all the Jedi, it seems like there were quite a few misfires during Order 66.
“Order 66 is one of Star Wars’ most defining moments—even before we knew its name and the intricacies of its machinations, we have known since the very beginning of the saga that there were once thousands of Jedi Knights, only for them to be systemically eradicated by the Empire. But even as Star Wars has detailed this moment more and more, it’s also revealed more and more Jedi that slipped through the Empire’s grip.”

Women have broken into many acting, producing, and directorial ventures in the recent past — think Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and those at her company — the animated film sector continues to have a pretty thick glass ceiling. That’s especially true at Disney and its adjacent companies, where only three women have directed feature-length animated movies.
That said, a few women have begun cracking the ceiling and forging paths. As they go, they’re creating storylines and beloved characters that put more women at the forefront. The proof speaks for itself: Women-directed animated projects at Disney have generated some of the biggest box office numbers.

As someone who has had my chilly feet described as blocks of ice, watching the prison scenes in the Star Wars series "Andor" was rough. If you recall, rebel Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is imprisoned for anti-Imperial activities while he was masquerading under the name Keef Girgo on the resort planet of Niamos. I mean, sure, he was doing a lot of anti-Imperial stuff, but not the things they accused him of. Add to that the raised punishments for pretty much everything (ensuring that the Empire has a lot of cheap labor to build their Death Star), and it makes for a rough incarceration.
At Star Wars Celebration in London, fans were treated to an "Andor" panel with the stars of the show. /Film has a bunch of reporters on the ground to bring us all the juicy details. One fun moment at the "Andor" event involved a group of...

When Disney+ raised prices in December by $3 per month to $10.99 — a not-insignificant increase of about 38 percent — the users didn’t blink. (Ad-supported Disney+ launched and took over ad-free’s prior $7.99 price point at the same time.)
According to data from subscription analytics firm Antenna, 94 percent of previous subscribers to ad-free Disney+ service stayed with the product after the price hike, the Wall Street Journal reported. Or, to channel Queen Elsa of Arendelle, almost no one “Let It Go.” That’s an impressive avoidance of churn, or subscribers canceling a service.
That, along with recent comments from CEO-again Bob Iger, suggests Disney+ has room to charge its loyal consumers even more. And why not? Losing 6 percent of customers for a 38 percent increase in Apru (average revenue per user) is just good, solid accounting. It’s one way to speed up the crawl toward profitability by at least a few months.

The 95th Academy Awards are behind us now, and one of the most interesting categories was Best Original Song. Winning an Oscar for an original song is definitely a prestigious honor, but perhaps the second most coveted prize for original movie music is the Grammy. Being voted on by two different academies means there’s bound to be a lot of discrepancies between the awards, especially with different voting deadlines and eligibility rules. With that in mind, what Oscar winning songs have also managed to get at least one Grammy nomination?

Ted Lasso is poised for its Season 3 return, and with it comes the resurgence of an old rivalry that transcends AFC Richmond and West Ham: the ongoing tension between bitter exes Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Rupert (Anthony Head). That’s right, with Rupert leading his own team against Rebecca, their old rivalry has been reignited and as a result, familiar patterns begin to emerge as the AFC Richmond owner struggles to keep her composure. “I like that she is slightly free-falling again because isn’t that just the human condition?” Waddingham tells TV Insider. “All the best-laid plans, you think, ‘oh great, Rebecca’s coming out the other side of it,’ and then you’re like, ‘no, no, no, she’s falling backward in a slippery bit of mud.’ You just wanna grab her hand and go, ‘mate, just let it go. Three of Disney’s most popular animated franchises are getting new installments. Sequels in the “Frozen” and “Zootopia” series are both in development at Walt Disney Animation Studios, while a fifth film in the “Toy Story” series is in the works at Pixar.
News of these sequels was revealed by Walt Disney Corporation CEO Bob Iger during the company’s Q1 2023 earnings call on Wednesday.
“Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, ‘Toy Story,’ ‘Frozen’ and ‘Zootopia,'” Iger said during the call. “We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”
The announcement of these three sequels followed some brutal news from Iger, who shared that 7,000 employees would be laid off at the company.

This year marks a decade since “Frozen” was first released in theaters, and CNN’s Chris Wallace still has some questions about the Disney film. Specifically, he’s not totally clear on how the Oscar-winning “Let It Go” was actually an empowering anthem for young women — so he decided to ask Idina Menzel about it directly on a new episode of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?”
In a new interview posted on Sunday, Wallace discussed the massive impact “Let It Go” had on Menzel’s career, and what impact she herself had on the song..
But, after discussing the mechanics of it, Wallace noted that he was about to make the interview “a little weird” because he had a bone to pick with the song.

A version of this review first ran during the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
When you saw Joaquin Phoenix dancing down those outdoor steps toward the end of “Joker,” you probably didn’t think about Princess Elsa belting out “Let It Go” in the 2013 animated film “Frozen.” But Mark Cousins did –- and that’s the difference between him and you and me and the rest of the people who see Cousins make that juxtaposition in his documentary “The Story of Film: A New Generation.”
Cousins ties Joker and Elsa together because of the defiance at the heart of his dance and her song, and he does so at the start of “The Story of Film: A New Generation.” The documentary was an extraordinarily apt film to screen on the opening afternoon of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, which came 14 months after the pandemic had forced the festival to cancel its 2020 edition. This month Disney will be hosting Disney+ Day, which means the streamer’s list of new releases for September 2022 is more jam-packed than usual.
Keeping with tradition, however, the biggest release this month is of the Marvel of Star Wars variety, with Star Wars taking its turn after Marvel did with She-Hulk in August. Prequel series Andor is set to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21 with three episodes. Starring Diego Luga as the titular rogue, Andor will take place in the time before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney has big plans for this property, with an uncommonly large 12-episode order set to run throughout the fall.
Some other big Disney franchises stake their claims with month with Pixar’s Cars on the Road and The Simpsons short “Welcome to the Club” both arriving on Sept. 8. Also premiering that day is the Robert Zemeckis film Pinocchio. Later on, Disney+ will...
