- Frankie, a 20-year-old girl has been caring for her father Tony, who's in need of a kidney transplant. Tony, always having been the caretaker of the family is ashamed and guilt-ridden by his worsening kidney condition which has led him to heavily depend on his daughter as well as his brother in-law, Gino. Frankie, after losing her mother and needing to make grown-up decisions from a young age, is willing to give up whatever it takes to keep Tony in her life. The key turning point of the story begins after Frankie goes against Tony's wishes in hopes of being his organ donor. When she tests negative, it sparks a raw and emotional conversation between daughter and father. It is only after this conversation Frankie realizes that she can't always fix what is meant to be fixed by another. After Frankie comes to terms with the circumstances of her role, life unveils itself revealing Gino's role in Frankie's and Tony's life.

Frankie grew up at her family's restaurant that was run by her mother Gigi, her uncle Gino, and her father Tony. However, after losing her mother to cancer at an early age she felt a responsibility to take on more than her age allowed her too which resulted in her needing to grow up faster than a regular teenager would. Along with taking on some of the family business's responsibilities she also took on the responsibility of caring for her father. Feeling as if her mother was taken away from her, she held on closer to the relationship she had with her father. When Tony was diagnosed with kidney failure, Frankie feeling powerless once again started to further sacrifice her life to keep her father closer to her. After months of watching Tony slowly get weaker, Frankie does the unthinkable in her father's eyes. Tony, having to witness his daughter compromise her teenage years after his wife's passing, felt a sense of guilt and concern. Tony watched as his daughter started developing a need to be in control all the time as a defense mechanism to her mother's death. After Tony was diagnosed with kidney failure, he experienced his ability to provide as a father diminish and his daughter starting to give up more of her life for him. It is only when Frankie goes against Tony's wishes to get tested in hopes of being a potential organ donor, it sparks a raw and emotional conversation between daughter and father. Frankie feeling completely powerless that the results came back negative and Tony feeling guilt ridden that his daughter wants to give another piece of her life away for him, finally expresses how Frankie's actions have made him feel. Only after watching her father breakdown emotionally, Frankie comes to terms with the potential circumstances of her role and realizes that she can't always fix and control the world around her. Gino, having been present throughout Gigi's death and now Tony's diagnosis has watched the family dynamics shift. In secret, Gino decides to go against Tony's 'roles' and gets tested too. It is when Frankie accepts the possibility of losing her father, life unveils itself revealing Gino's role in Frankie's and Tony's life.
