The set of “Morning Joe” woke up in a feisty mood Tuesday morning, ripping into First Lady Melania Trump’s campaign to curb bullying. “If you are going to pick anything, that’s an interesting thing for Melania to pick considering, well, I mean, all the insults,” Scarborough said dryly, alluding to her husband, the President of the United States. “Maybe she should start with Patient X, or Patient Zero, (who) she sleeps actually with, the worst bully in America,” said Scarborough. Yesterday, Melania Trump made a surprise trip to Michigan to visit schoolchildren and preach the doctrine of inclusion.

For years, he's brought the dead to life in books like Patient Zero and Rot & Ruin, so it's rather fitting that prolific author Jonathan Maberry has now teamed up with the legendary George A. Romero to co-edit an anthology set within the early stages of the zombie uprising in Night of the Living Dead. Titled Nights of the Living Dead, the new anthology is now available from St. Martin's Press (check out our giveaway here), and to celebrate, we caught up with Maberry for our latest Q&A feature to discuss his work on the living dead dream project, and we also have a claustrophobic excerpt from his short story "Lone Gunman."
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Jonathan. How did the opportunity come about to collaborate on a Night of the Living Dead anthology with the legend himself, George A. Romero?

Veep is currently facing a very strange challenge that the show couldn’t possibly have seen coming when Armando Iannucci first created it several years ago: namely, the fact that real-life politics has far surpassed any twisted insanity that a bunch of TV writers could ever come up with. Since the inauguration, each day has yielded enough blunders to […]

Taboo’s latest episode finds James Delaney at his lowest ebb…
This review contains spoilers.
See related Trespass Against Us trailer, with Michael Fassbender Justin Kurzel interview: Macbeth, Breaking Bad, Snowtown
Making enemies of the most powerful bastards in the land is finally taking its on the devil James Delaney. Episode six left our anti-hero at his lowest ebb. He’s lost his ship, been betrayed, was almost drowned by the ghost of his mother and now looks to have been framed for murder.
I say framed because if Delaney really did kill Winter—the little mudlark whose death warrant was signed the moment she started talking starry-eyed of her dream of escaping to America—he’d have to resign as this show’s lead. We’re on board with the sister-shagging and villain-disembowelling, but drunkenly murdering a poor kid? They’d have to change the name from Taboo to Pure Evil.

Not all C.H.U.D. are created equal.
Within weeks of Arrow Video’s special edition Blu-ray of the original C.H.U.D.—still the best movie ever made about New York’s homeless being transformed by toxic waste into cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers—Lionsgate’s new(ish) Vestron Video Collector’s Series adds its 1989 sequel, C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud, to its growing library of collectible Blu-rays. The completist in me is happy to have both available in the best possible format. The supportive horror fan in me is happy for the film’s fans, who finally get to put a high-def version of a movie they adore on their shelves. The movie lover in me would be perfectly okay not seeing it again.

NBC is no longer proceeding with outbreak drama, aka Patient Zero, from The Imitation Game writer Graham Moore and World War Z director Marc Forster. The Endemol Shine Studio project, which received a 10-episode, straight-to-series order in May 2015, was co-developed by Sky, which was to serve as the series' UK network. Word came out of the UK this week that Patient Zero also had been dropped by Sky. Created and written by Moore and to be directed by Forster, Patient Zero…...

He's made friends, enemies, some memorable Eighties movies, loads of Tiger Beat covers, a didn't-see-that-coming comedic comeback and a few notorious sex tapes — and now, Rob Lowe can say that he's truly arrived, because Comedy Central has roasted him. Joining the ranks of Hugh Hefner, Justin Bieber, Flavor Flav and this guy, the former Brat Pack heartthrob willingly stepped up on the dais with a bullseye on his back, as everyone from roastmaster Jeffrey Ross (dressed as Purple Rain-era Prince) to Jewel (?!?) laid into him with the most offensive zingers imaginable.

The actor is the latest victim of a Comedy Central Roast, joining an exclusive club that includes Justin Bieber, Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen.
From his infamous sex tape with an underage girl to his many failed television series and film bombs, nothing from Lowe's past was off-limit for the roasters, which included Peyton Manning, Jewel, Karate Kid actor Ralph Macchio,Pete Davidson and roastmaster David Spade.
The roast doesn't air until Monday on Comedy Central, but here are some of the event's best jokes to look forward to on the big night.

There have been various incarnations of Spider-Man over the years, all with various different outfits - but the one that's set to debut in the pages of Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness' Spider-Man/Deadpool #8 might just be the coolest yet. The issue finds the Wall-Crawler just a tad bit miffed as the Merc with a Mouth, but the pair will have to put their differences aside for their first encounter with Patient Zero. Spider-Man/Deadpool #8 hits shelves on August 10. Check out a lettered preview and synopsis below. Here's why Justin Cronin's vampire apocalypse trilogy should be next on your Must-Read List...
Thanks to a certain Ya phenomenon, the word ‘vampire’ can barely be taken seriously anymore. Or at least it would be were it not for the existence of Justin Cronin’s Passage Trilogy.
It’s hard to know where to begin when describing this series, so I’ll start with the stuff that would seem hyperbolic if it wasn’t true. The three books that make up Cronin’s saga, The Passage, The Twelve and The City Of Mirrors comprise a modern horror masterpiece. It started innocently enough with a Twitter question about the name of one of Harry Potter's sons, and spiraled into what J.K. Rowling herself called an "unplanned debate: "Snape: Good, Evil or What?"
Here's the initial question, Patient Zero of this debate, which references the middle name of Harry's second son, Albus Severus Potter:

That fan quickly got some heated responses from Severus Snape defenders, but here's what Rowling herself replied:
Snape died for Harry out of love for Lily. Harry paid him tribute in forgiveness and gratitude. https://t.co/MPXBgUApa3

Everyone wants a piece of Murphy on season two of Syfy's Z Nation, and ahead of the latest episode's premiere tonight at 10:00pm Est, we caught up with Keith Allan, the actor who plays Patient Zero. In our latest Q&A feature, Allan discusses watching Dark Shadows while growing up, Murphy's mindset in season two, and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to converse with us, Keith. You’ve been involved with a number of horror projects over the years. Were you a big fan of the horror and sci-fi genres growing up? Did you have any favorite films, TV shows, or books from those genres that really stuck with you?
Keith Allan: Absolutely. Horror was huge when I was a teenager. Friday the 13th, Halloween, science fiction like Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey... great drive-in movies. Lots of fun to go party with your buds and just get silly and scream.

One of the biggest surprises of 2013 for me was Contracted – Eric England’s tight little body-horror flick about a “Patient Zero” who hopes to destroy mankind by spreading a deadly Std. Weaker stomachs might have to watch most of the action through interwoven fingers, but as a contagion thriller, England’s style ensures that societal horrors come first and foremost.
Fast-forward two years, and we’re here to discuss Contracted: Phase II, a sequel that doesn’t see any involvement from England himself. First-time screenwriter Craig Walendziak and music video director Josh Forbes (you know, the guy who totally had an awful time at the MTV VMAs) take over as the creative team behind IFC Midnight’s hopeful successor, which provides the opportunity for a refreshing new take on England’s origin. Contracted is only the beginning of the end! Walendziak and Forbes had limitless possibilities for their world-continuing biological disaster,...

We already know “Fear the Walking Dead” — the companion series to AMC’s “The Walking Dead” — will take place in the early days of the zombie outbreak. Set on the west coast, “FtWD” will follow a family as they try to make sense of this apocalypse in a world where zombie pop culture never manifested and therefore no genre-savviness exists. Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures, has today detailed the studio’s comprehensive film slate through 2019, granting release dates to Bad Boys 3, Underworld 5 and The Dark Tower among many, many others.
Encompassing a “diverse, globally oriented mix of films,” Rothman was quick to point out that rollout covers franchise hopefuls as well as new entries into existing properties, and though Sony’s slate may be light on heroes in tights relative to Warner Bros. and Disney, there are a number of upcoming releases worth getting excited about.
While it’s been on the cards for some time, it seems the company is ready to fully commit to not only Bad Boys 3, but Bad Boys 4, with the high-octane sequels now due to arrive on February 17, 2017 and July 3, 2019, respectively. Sticking with established franchises for the time being and Sony also dated Resident Evil: The Final Chapter for January 27, 2017, while Underworld 5 will hit...

There were a number of things I did and said in San Diego this year that are not going to be covered as separate articles. In some cases, someone else at HitFix was in the room to write the thing up. In some cases, it's just about time. Whatever the case, though, here are some random impressions to help round out my coverage of the single biggest nerd hype event of the year. 1. Rob Kazinsky should be our new Shazam I met Kazinsky on the set of "Pacific Rim," and while I thought he was solid in that film, his Australian accent was a nightmare. One of the things that I found most engaging at the Entertainment Weekly "New Warriors" panel was the way he offered that accent up as his greatest career regret so far. "You don't have to stop me on the street and tell me," he said.

Comic-con: In a typically passionate yet uncharacteristically expletive-free panel during Saturday’s Legendary session, Guillermo del Toro showed footage from his upcoming ghost story.
The Mexican auteur, a perennial idol among the Comic-Con faithful, said the R-rated feature due out on October 16 was at its heart a “classical Gothic romance” and the most beautiful film of his career.
Del Toro explained how the ghost story set in a foreboding estate in Cumberland, northern England, was allowed to be what he had envisioned because of his Hollywood partners.
“Early on we decided it need to be R, it needed to be complex,” del Toro said, explaining that he tended to make his more mature works in Spanish.
Yet this time he was in for a pleasant surprise. “I felt for the first time completely free to make an adult movie in the English language.”
Stars Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain appeared to further promote the release...

Ace Attorney
Written by Takeharu Sakurai & Sachiko Ōguchi
Directed by Takashi Miike
Japan, 2012
I’ll come right out and say it: Takashi Miike’s Ace Attorney, based on the first entry of the popular Capcom video game series, is the single-best cinematic adaptation of a video game property of all time. Now some of the more snide readers out there will no doubt think that this a pretty low bar to clear. There’s at least a partial truth to that: the current all-time champion of video game (henceforth Vg) movie critical acclaim is 2001’s Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, coming in at a cool 44% on Rotten Tomatoes (not that the Rt metric is reflective of quality in any capacity, but that’s another discussion for another time). While the movie was a watershed moment from a technical standpoint (it had some of the most impressively detailed CGI in movie...

Hey Deadheads, it’s Ryne from The Moon is a Dead World. This week we add Resurrection‘s second season to our list of things to cover, as well as the usual stuff: Kevin with Under the Dome and The Strain, Shawn has Gotham and Z Nation, and I’ve got the rest.
The Lottery: “In Extremis” - Sunday, September 28 at 9 Pm
So I made it to The Lottery‘s season finale. For a little while I thought I was going to pull a Shawn and drop out, but I managed to stick with it to the end. I don’t want to say I hate The Lottery like I do Bitten, because that’s not really the case; but I do think that the show has a lot of really stupid subplots and obvious “twists,” and enjoyment of the show’s plot has dropped significantly from the first episode.
