President McKinley's Inauguration (1897)
President McKinley's Inauguration (1897)
This film was shot on March 4, 1897 and is historic because it was the first footage shot of a sitting American President. There were hundreds of movies from this era that captured every day moments like people leaving a factory or someone walking across the street. We got films dealing with firemen, cops, waterfalls and just about anything else. These are all good in their own way but there's certainly something historically important about these early films dealing with President McKinley. Especially since they capture a moment in American history. This here was apparently the first to ever capture a President so that reason alone should be of interest to film fans as well as history buffs. Both will certainly enjoy seeing this footage.
