We’re back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes a clip from Alice D, a call for submissions from the London Horror Festival, trailers for Fractured, Too Young to Die, and Ghostline, first details for Imaginapped and Grimmerson Manor, and a Q&A with Jacqui Holland:
First Clip from Alice D: “In the late 1890s the Davenport House was a famous and successful brothel, until a young prostitute named Alice killed herself there. After her death, the brothel became haunted by Alice’s ghost, and was eventually abandoned.
More than a century later, the old structure is renovated into a beautiful mansion. It is still rumored to inhabit the ghost of Alice. Despite this, the new owner; the rich and arrogant heir to the Davenport fortune, decides to throw a wild party for his first night in the house.

It’s that time of the year. For whatever reason this is the time of the year that I receive quite a few requests to review shorts. Whether it has to do with festival season, the Halloween pre-season or whether I just start posting more about shorts because I judge the Killer Film Festival, the influx of short film review requests hits my inbox. This makes me an extremely happy reviewer. Disclaimer: I truly enjoy short horror films. I’d say it began with Creepshow and Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors. I got Creepshow from Dad; Dr. Terror from Mom. Both stuck, and one, became my namesake (which I did not give myself I assure you). What could be better than the encapsulation of a creepy idea or shocking concept with a 20 minute window? Tell your story. No filler. The more filler, the more we know you don’t know how to scare us.

Sometimes in life there are rules you can’t break, but everyone especially in their younger years goes through life lessons that they must experience rather than be told. Such is the case of the teenage reaper in Peter Dukes’ Dream Seekers Productions’ Little Reaper.
We’ve had the pleasure of covering Peter Dukes’ work before with the two shorts A Goblin’s Tale and The Beast. You can check out those reviews here, but you’re here for the reaping. So take out those earbuds and check out this film.

It’s no secret that we here at Dread Central are stalwart supporters of indie filmmakers so it’s a pleasure to bring you a first look at Peter Dukes’ engaging horror-comedy short Little Reaper as well as some exclusive stills, a poster, and word on his next project.
Written, directed and produced by Dukes, the film, a project by Dream Seekers Productions, stars Athena Baumeister in the titular role as the Grim Reaper’s (actor John Paul Ouvrier) teenage daughter, who when tasked with handling her patriarch’s daily duties, comes up rather short and with some rather amusing results. Actors John Michael Herndon, Katharine Stapleton, Allisyn Ashley Arm (of Disney channel fame), Katy Townsend and Sorsha Morava round out the cast.
“Death is a common theme in my work,” said Dukes of Little Reaper, which he funded with additional financing from Little Reaper executive producer Danny Derakhshan and associate producers Melissa Cottingham,...

First Details on Harbinger Down: “Award-winning Visual Effects artists Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., co-founders of Studio Adi (Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc.) launched a campaign today for Harbinger Down. “In the spirit of sci-fi/horror classics, Alien and The Thing, Harbinger Down is a tense, claustrophobic full-length creature film that will feature only practical Animatronic and Makeup Effects,” announced Gillis, who will write and direct.

Independent filmmaker Peter Dukes (The Beast, A Goblin’s Tale) is hard at work with post-production on his latest short film Little Reaper.
His Dream Seekers Productions has released a new teaser poster and a few stills from the film for us.
A couple of months ago, I had an exclusive interview (read here) with Dukes as he spoke about his past films and the upcoming Little Reaper.
Dukes’ describes Little Reaper as a quirky horror/comedy about the grim reaper’s difficult teenage daughter.
“She's kind of feisty and independent, who really doesn't want to be a reaper but she is forced to take over her father's duties for one day and of course chaos ensues.”
Dukes goes on to say “It's this crazy horror film; it's got a lot of comedy in it. I like to challenge myself; I haven't really tackled comedy before,...

Peter Dukes is an independent filmmaker on the rise. His company Dream Seekers Productions has produced 14 short, independent films to date, with more on the way. His films run the gamut of genres and include horror, fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, drama, and soon to be comedy. Peter is truly an exceptional artist with an eye for film that only a handful of indie filmmakers have today. Dream Seekers Productions pride themselves on bringing unique, challenging and innovative films to life when they might not have a life elsewhere. They hope to remind moviegoers how inspiring, thought-provoking and wonderful cinema can be.
His most recent short film, and my favorite of his, is a family driven horror tale called The Beast. It stars the award winning Bill Oberst Jr. as a father trying to help his son who has a terrible affliction. Another popular Peter Dukes...

"The Beast" is a short film that centers around three characters, Jacob, his father Michael and his uncle Douglas. It is a full moon and Michael and Douglas are tying up Jacob to a tree to keep others safe. Jacob is afflicted with the curse of the werewolf, and his father refuses to kill him.
Bill Oberst Jr. plays Michael and gives a wonderful performance. You can see the pain in his eyes as he sees his son go through this. He can't bring himself to terminate him, even though he knows it is the right thing to do.
Peter Le Bas also gives an excellent performance as Douglas. He tries to convince Michael to kill Jacob. When Michael declines, Douglas tries to take matters into his own hands and end Jacob's life. Michael attempts to stop Douglas and during their struggle, Jacob is able to escape.
