The Closer goes out with a bang
Paularoc23 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Some shows just kind of fade away, worn and tired. Not this one. It ends dramatically and logically - her stint with Major Crimes and the unexpected death of her mother had left Brenda pretty burned out. Brenda announces that she has accepted a position with the LA District Attorney's Office. Maybe Brenda will make a guest appearance on some future Major Crimes episode. But maybe not and that's okay because we have seven years worth of often outstanding and always interesting shows. In this episode, the team is investigating a series of vicious murders of young women. In a store video surveillance tape Brenda insists that the man in the tape chatting up the latest victim is Philip Stroh even though she can only see him from behind. Stroh is one of those criminals "who got away with it" and he and Brenda had tangled before. Given her emotional fragility, Stroh coming back into her life was too much - watching Brenda on the verge of snapping and then indeed snapping was amazing. The scene where she jumps on the elevator just before the doors close and punches Stroh was as riveting as it was shocking. What an actress Kyra Sedgwick is. The whole cast, as ever, was excellent especially Mary McDonnell (her sadness at Brenda's break-down is so touching) and Billy Burke as Philip Stroh.

Brenda

I really enjoyed the series and all of the characters. For those who think Brenda was a fascist, I don't know what you were watching. You could have always changed the channel. I think Kyra was a great actress and a good producer. I'm going to miss her, but I will be watch major crimes.

Brenda finally gets her last shot at Phillip Stroh- and possibly her last stint as deputy chief

It is still hard to believe that 7 phenomenal seasons are coming to a close and that this amazing show has reached its end. I truly enjoyed this show and look forward to watching Major Crimes- the spin off of the Closer. It's great that most of the cast is staying on and every now and then you do(will) hear mention of Brenda's character. Hopefully Pope will appear and maybe Brenda will show up in her new job position. I will be getting all 7 seasons on DVD so that I can continue to enjoy it as much as I did when I first started watching it. Thank YEW to the cast and crew for an amazing 7 seasons. This show is truly one of a kind but Major Crimes will fill in the void nicely that is left behind.

I've always liked this show

Warning: Spoilers
Still watching reruns of this show. I found myself talking to the TV while watching this episode because Stroh should have been arrested and charged with Rusty's assault and but he wasn't so later he should have been charged with the attempted murder of Rusty and Brenda at her home. Stroh was shot three times but there was no update on how he survived that. "Major Crimes", the spin-off, confused me because Brenda Leigh Johnson is the best. Captain Raydor is the opposite of a "closer." The writers and producers made a mistake with the BLJ character - how can a CIA-trained interrogator have such low self-esteem? BLJ is a walking contradiction - rock solid professionally but personally she is weak. It just doesn't make sense, especially after learning about her parents. Glad to see Kyra is back in "Call Your Mother."

I wish....

Warning: Spoilers
I wish Stroh killed off Rusty Beck. The most annoying character on this show. Worse yet he is a major character in the sequel to this show. "Major Crimes". The "Major crime" on that show is Rusty Beck!!!

At last is over!

well, i already expressed my opinion on the show in previous review(in episode 16 of season 7). Right now, i just want to express my surprise reading other reviews: it seems many people are OK with a police chief who uses fascist tactics, worth only for police forces of countries like north Korea, Iran or Saudi Arabia. It seems that the constitution of USA has not any value for chief Johnson: no respect at all to civil rights, lawyers, prosecutors, suspects. Well, it seems many people in USA are used in these tactics and accept them? maybe they do not value their own civil rights? In any police force of democratic country, chief would have been fired long time ago. Even when she left a released(after agreement) killer at his house, after she gave the free to a convicted to make calls to the gang, knowing he would be murdered, she never regretted it: she just tried all next episodes to find out who from her department was the leak. That only mattered for her. well, as i wrote in previous review, congratulations to the writers of the series: they only proved that they adore fascist tactics by police. Its better to write for north Korea, or Iran. It seems they would love the police tactics there! As for Kyra Sedgwick , i never liked her as actress. So, for a bad role, she is OK- a bad actress.
