Sophie Turner hasn’t acted a whole lot since “Game of Thrones” ended in 2019. She was in a Quibi show called “Wilderness,” had a viral cameo in Netflix movie “Do Revenge,” and was part of the ensemble in the Max limited series “The Staircase.” But she hasn’t had a lead role in a prominent series of her own.
But that’s changing, as Turner has signed on to star in “Haven” (working title), a British crime thriller that’s coming to Prime Video.
Turner will play Zara, an ordinary employee at a pension fund management company called Lochmill Capital, who is thrust into an extraordinary situation when a gang of thieves invade the office and force her and her friend Luke to transfer billions of pounds worth of pension funds. Meanwhile, Dci Rhys, a recently relapsed gambling addict, has to stave off his own financial ruin while he investigates the complex,...

One of the most overexposed classic rock songs ever is Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” — and yet, some fans miss its meaning. Jon Bon Jovi revealed the tune was inspired by one of the defining political ideas of the 1980s. On top of that, “Livin’ on a Prayer” was influenced by the singer’s romantic life.
How Ronald Reagan inspired Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’
On the surface, “Livin’ on a Prayer” is a song about a couple trying to make a life for themselves while they don’t have much money. It’s easy to understand the tune as a simple self-empowerment anthem. However, Jon Bon Jovi himself connected it to the political milieu of the 1980s.
The BBC reports that the singer said “Livin’ on a Prayer” was about the economic policies of President Ronald Reagan. “I wrote that song during the Reagan era...

The Decemberists have announced a new double album, As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again, due out June 14th on the band’s label Yabb Records via Thirsty Tigers. To accompany the announcement, the band has also shared the 19-minute album closer “Joan in the Garden.”
As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again, the folk-rock act’s ninth album, marks the band’s return after a six-year hiatus. Teased by the recent single “Burial Ground” and split into four thematic sides, the double-lp also notably boasts guest appearances from The Shins’ James Mercer and Rem’s Mike Mill.

Contrasting the relative brevity and accessibility of “Burial Ground,” which serves as the album’s opener, “Joan in the Garden” arrives as an extended, multi-part epic. The song’s subject matter is fittingly grand, as the origins of the song derive from the story of Joan of Arc.

Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment at The CW, has “ambitious” goals.
As The CW moves away from only serving young adult audiences towards rivaling the Big Four broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC – Schwartz knows he needs to find a hit to do that.
This, after all, is the man credited with helping Schitt’s Creek become an Emmy-winning smash.
“We recognize where we’re coming from. We’re the underdogs competing against Titans. But ultimately what we’re striving for is to have everyone stop writing big four networks and start writing big five network. We know it’s going to take some time, but that’s the goal,” he said at the top of his TCA press tour presentation.

Sophie Turner has sued Joe Jonas and asked that their “wrongfully detained” daughters be returned to England.
Turner filed a lawsuit Thursday in a Manhattan court petitioning “the immediate return’ of her daughters with Jonas — three-year-old Willa and their younger daughter, named Dmj in the documents. The “wrongful retention” began Sept. 20, according to the filing.
The “Game of Thrones” actress also established that she and now ex-husband Jonas had previously agreed that England was the “habitual residence” of their children. The girls are currently located in New York.
“From the beginning of the parties’ relationship, they have spent regular time in England including with their friends and family,” the paperwork reads. “Until April 2023, the parties moved frequently due to the nature and requirements of their careers. In April 2023, the parties made England their permanent home.”
Turner, 27, was born in Northampton, England, and grew up in Warwickshire after her family moved there when she was two.

Sophie Turner is hanging out with her estranged husband‘s ex-girlfriend. On Tuesday night, the “Game of Thrones” alum stepped out in New York City with Taylor Swift, who dated Joe Jonas before Turner was married to him.
Turner, who announced her split from Jonas last month, was already inside West Village haunt Via Carota when Swift arrived to have dinner with her and two other women. Swift, who briefly dated Jonas in 2008, was seen hugging Turner in one video from the outing.
From there, Turner and Swift left the restaurant arm-in-arm to head to Temple Bar, a nearby nightclub, where they stayed for a couple of hours before leaving around 11 p.m., according to a source.
“Sophie seemed to be happy and enjoying the night,” an eyewitness tells Et, with Et’s source adding, “They seemed to be having the best time — they were laughing and chitchatting with the waitstaff and drinking martinis.

Actress Sophie Turner has been seen for the first time since her husband Joe Jonas filed for divorce. The ‘Game of Thrones’ actress, 27, and Jonas Brother star, 34, told fans they had decided to call time on their four-year marriage last week amid rumours they were living separately, reports ‘Mirror.co.uk’.

Joan, the TV series that Sophie Turner just last week wrapped filming, is being touted as “awards bait” by The CW entertainment chief Brad Schwartz.
As a guest on a recent episode of sister site THR’s TV’s Top 5 podcast, Schwartz — in previewing international co-productions that were not impacted by the Hollywood strikes and thus are coming down the pike — said of Joan, “That is going to be awards bait, that show.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that the Jonas Brothers singer — who shares two daughters with Turner — had filed for divorce after four years of marriage.
An alleged close friend of Turner’s has since spoken to the Mail Online about Jonas and the actress wanting “different things.”
The exes reportedly started having problems last Christmas, before she was said to have separated from him at the start of the summer.
Turner, 27, has since been in the U.K. filming her upcoming series “Joan” and was recently pictured partying at DropShot Digbeth in Birmingham.
The source shared, “Sophie feels like she’s only just waking up to what her life and reality really is. She became famous at a very young age, then married and had kids at a young age and never really had the...

After several years of waiting, Black Mirror finally returned with its eagerly anticipated sixth season. Charlie Brooker’s anthology series has reflected on contemporary society’s complicated relationship with technology since 2011. Interestingly, though, three of the five episodes in this installment occur somewhere in the past, be it distant or nearby. And even more intriguing, not every entry this time around is bent on delivering techno-dystopian dread. In fact, multiple tales are devoid of terror brought on by our overreliance on gadgets, science, and artifice.
Black Mirror was previously concerned with the immediate present or the conceivable future. However, based on this season’s episodes, the creator has perhaps grown weary of the “now.” The world that Brooker envisioned — not to mention warned us about — has, in some ways, come to fruition. These past couple of years, reality has proven to be more unsettling than whatever Black Mirror can cook up.

With the dust from the Succession finale still yet to settle, Sarah Snook has landed another major role, joining a stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray heading to London’s West End.
Snook is set to play all 26 characters in the production, which comes from Australia’s Sydney Theatre Company and will be making its U.K. premiere at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in January after an extended run in Sydney and nationwide Australian tour. The modern reworking of the story — which marks Snook’s return to the London stage following her debut in Matthew Warchus’ 2016 production of The Master Builder opposite Ralph Fiennes — is adapted and directed by Sydney Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Kip Williams.

The season stands out for its unique style, which is characteristic of the show, and its exceptional technical quality that evokes the best moments of the series. Black Mirror has once again managed to surprise its audience by returning to its British origins and bringing back the quality and ideas that have made it one of the most popular shows among viewers. The season comprises several episodes, each with its own storyline and message.
Season 6. Chapters Joan is Awful
This episode is more amusing than terrifying and features Salma Hayek (who mocks her own diction) playing an actress in a series that parodies itself. It is a charming and humorous episode that serves as an excellent appetizer for this sixth season. Did you expect Charlie Brooker not to take AI beyond imagination? Black Mirror season six finally has a date.
The long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s Netflix anthology series is June 15, the series announced along with episode descriptions and the full official trailer on Wednesday.
The season is confirmed to be five episodes, which is two more installments than the last season that released back in summer of 2019.
In the official announcement about the Emmy-winning series’ return, Brooker said he “stretched the parameters” of what to expect from a Black Mirror episode for the forthcoming season. “I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself) or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. So partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this...

She wowed fans as Sansa Stark in "Game of Thrones" which saw her nominated for an Emmy, starred alongside Colin Firth and Toni Colette in the eight-part drama "The Staircase", and most recently took on a comedic role in Netflix's "Do Revenge". Now, we've got our first look at Sophie Turner in the gritty upcoming six-part drama,"Joan," based on a true story of the notorious jewel thief, Joan Hannington.
On May 18, ITV released the first photo of Turner as she takes on the lead role of Hannington with her eclectic sense of style and bleached blonde hair, channeling the '80s when the series is set. The revamped CW will have some genre programming, after all.
On Thursday, the network picked up a sequel to the TNT series The Librarians.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a spinoff of the original TV series, which followed the adventures of the custodians of a magical repository of the world's most powerful and dangerous supernatural artifacts.
The new series centers on a "Librarian" from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here.
When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent.
He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.
Electric Entertainment and The CW Network produce the new series.
Dean Devlin serves as executive producer and showrunner along with executive producers Rachel Olschan-Wilson and Marc Roskin.
Jonathan English of Balkanic Media serves as producer.

As The CW cut away most of its scripted series over the past two seasons, then built up its 2023-24 schedule with a number of series that originated elsewhere, a narrative took hold: The network, under new owners Nexstar, was looking for inexpensive programming to fill its lineup and abandoning homegrown original series to chase profits.
It came as something of a surprise, then, when Brad Schwartz, entertainment president at The CW, told reporters Thursday that the network was in production on a dozen scripted shows and developing several others. It’s the first time since local TV giant Nexstar took majority ownership of the network in October 2022 that The CW (which also made some cuts in development and current programming after the ownership change) has really outlined how it plans to find and develop new series.

Though the CW is beginning to pivot much more heavily to reality fare, with “All American” as the only original scripted series on its fall 2023 lineup, the network has added three new scripted projects to its slate for 2024: “Joan,” “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” and “The Swarm.” Additionally, 2024 will see the premieres of unscripted series “Patti Stanger: Millionaire Matchmaking,” “The Force” and “The Great American Bakeover” (all working titles).
All newly announced series are currently in production.
“Joan” stars Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) as Joan Hannington, the notorious real-life jewel thief. Set in 1980s London, the series sees Joan as a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter, Kelly, while trapped in a disastrous marriage with a violent criminal named Gary. When Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to adopt new identities and embark on a high-stakes journey to create a new life for herself and Kelly.

She’s known as a Hollywood trailblazer, expanding what audiences and the women inspired by her legacy thought was possible from a successful female comic. And like most artistic innovators, the late Joan Rivers’ ascent was due to a combination of incredible talent and a touch of luck surrounding her big break.
She performed in comedy clubs across New York throughout the early ’60s. She appeared on the Jack Paar edition of The Tonight Show at the beginning of the decade. But her stand-up spots on The Ed Sullivan Show played a big role in her mainstream breakthrough. For all the work Rivers was doing as a comedian, she received her place on the platform because of an error by Sullivan.

As much as Robert Aldrich's 1962 film "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?" became a camp classic for its wild twists, shrieking old women, and creepy makeup, its tragic power can't be denied. There's a grand scope to the movie, even though so much of it takes place in the glamorous but suffocating home of its two leading ladies. Some of that scope comes from the prologue, which takes viewers as far back as 1917 — but it also comes from the movie's reckoning with Hollywood history, in the ways stars were treated, in the venomous effects of celebrity on the soul, and in the use of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis as the clashing sisters at its center.
Of course, Crawford and Davis had a legendary feud going back decades, one so well-known in Hollywood lore that it (and the production of "Baby Jane") became the subject of Ryan Murphy's miniseries "Feud,...

Ann Dowd has played her fair share of dark roles. Whether it is the ruthless, complicated Aunt Lydia who indoctrinates women into a system of injustice in Hulu's adaptation of Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" or Joan, the demon-worshipping cult member in Ari Aster's horror tale "Hereditary," Dowd plays her darkest, most unforgiving characters with a flair that is both elegant and chilling to the bone. The prolific actress has a resume teeming with some pretty hardcore characters, like when she portrayed an abusive mother in "Freaks and Geeks," an easily manipulated manager in "Compliance," an apocalypse cult leader in "The Leftovers," and countless other roles that many would dare never tackle. Her performance in every project is quite something to behold.
Of all her roles, the one in Aster's "Hereditary" is easily one of the most frightening ones. Dowd hasn't been afraid to tackle challenging roles,...

One thing Theater Camp could never be accused of is not knowing its audience.
Hatched by co-directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman and their fellow screenwriters Noah Galvin and Ben Platt out of a string of sketches, an unreleased web series and an improvised short, this larkish comedy is laser-targeted for a highly specific niche. Musical theater geeks, aspiring performers and eccentric drama educators will find countless sweet-spot insider jokes in a film that conveys the love of its creative team for the milieu at every turn. For the uninitiated, its charms are more likely to register in fits and starts.
The project takes as its model the Christopher Guest improv comedy, which is both a blessing and a curse since the under-baked mockumentary frame is rickety and seems to be forgotten for large chunks at a time. Another drawback is the considerable overlap with two sharper, more disciplined films,...
