Many inaccuracies, still fun
conjh13-12 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I know this is years after this has released, but I thought I'd still bother posting in case anyone is interested. Also, this is not to hate on this episode because it was still good despite the inaccuracies.

  • Mennonites do not engage in rumsrpinga, that is exclusively an Amish practice.
  • The note in question could not possibly have been in Pennsylvania Dutch because PA Dutch is not a written language. There have been some recent efforts by individuals to create a written version for fun, but there is no consensus or any real popularity with any of these.
  • More subjectively, it is painfully obvious the "Mennonites" are no kind of Mennonite as their mannerisms, dress, and accents amongst other details are not at all representative of any kind of Mennonite that might speak PA Dutch.

A Sad Story
Hitchcoc12 December 2018
A young woman (around twenty) is found in a field by a young boy. Paper money is flying around. She has blunt force trauma. The investigation leads to the fact that she was an exotic dancer (stripper) at a kind of sleazy bar. This leads to several suspects. It also turns out that she was on rumspringa, the Mennonite practice of sending their children out into the world to experience life away from the religious tenets. She and her brother have and some others have been living in a broken down old house, barely getting by. Longmire must wade through the religious roadblocks and approach this case differently.

Longmire -The Dark Road

My wife and I write these stream of consciousness "reviews".

8 stars. All our reviews begin with 8 stars.

Moar hysterical markers, please.

Hanging empty picture frames? Like, so rebellious, chick.

Dads. Right?

Mmm. Strawberries.

Well, umm, Vic? There's no sign of alien abduction, either.

Umm, Vic? Maybe if you would police in a g-string.

What's the arc about Walt leaving his coat at the strip club?

Rum Springers. Yeah. I've had a few of those. Back when I drank. My wife's had a few Jerry Springers. Ow. Stop hitting me, Karen. YOU write the next review.

I used to tell our little Cairn Terriers that cows were "big doggies". Never seen tails wag so vigorously.

Woot. Going to town to sell $20 worth of grass and lumber.

At 15:53- The sexism has a bad vibe.

7½ stars.

So: who broke the fence Sheriff?

That's cold. Mennonite dude. Cold.

How did the door hit Branch's nose without knocking his hat off?

Relate Emotionally With Character(s). Yes.

8½ stars.

One of the worst portrayals of Mennonites I've ever seen
steiner-sam9 July 2021
It features a young woman, Hannah Clausen (Klassen?), who during "Rumspringa" from her (Old Order)? Mennonite family works as a stripper in a nearby town and is found dead. The rules of this Rumspringa (which Mennonites don't have) are that while on Rumspringa, you can have no contact with your family. Even the Amish don't have such rules. A group of young people lives together in a house, though one of the young women still dresses in plain clothes, which makes no sense if she is actually on Rumspringa.

Ephraim Clausen, Hannah's father, is a cruel man who doesn't react when told his daughter is dead. The key clue is a note that quotes a Bible verse in Pennsylvania Dutch. If the Old Order Mennonites quote scripture, it will be in High German, not Pennsylvania German. Of course, the clothing of these Mennonites had no resemblance to any Mennonite group.

One would think the writers of this episode could do a modicum of research.
