This episode contains several inside jokes to The Silence of the Lambs, on which this series is partially based. When Hannibal Lecter serves the dinner of tongues, he claims they came from "chatty lambs", an reference to the movie's title. Dr. Chilton refers to the Chesapeake Ripper as a "pure psychopath. So rare to catch one alive", which is how Chilton (played by Anthony Heald) refers to Lecter in the earlier film. Lecter also says to Chilton, "So nice to have an old friend for dinner", which echoes the last line from the earlier film ("I'd love to talk more, but I'm having an old friend for dinner"), when Lecter (played by Anthony Hopkins), stalks Chilton in Bermuda.
