Steven Spielberg's entertaining true life account of a chapter in the Cold War concerns a crucial negotiation by a brave attorney (Tom Hanks) who goes way out on a limb in East Berlin. Zachary Quinto will join Gillian Anderson in the third season of Hannibal...
Star Trek's Zachary Quinto will join Hannibal in season 3 for at least one episode. Quinto, from The Slap and American Horror Story will guest star on the NBC cut-em-up prequel series to The Silence Of The Lambs.
The actor will play a patient of Dr Bedelia Du Maurier, played by Gillian Anderson. Anderson’s role on The X-Files was loosely based on Jodie Foster’s FBI agent in the serial killer classic film. There is some speculation that Quinto may be part of a flashback to when Du Maurier killed a patient while under the influence of the good doctor with the taste for fava beans.

A review of tonight's "Girls" coming up just as soon as two people ask me if I'm Blake Lively's husband... Because Lena Dunham is writer, director and star on "Girls," because she has certain traits in common with the role she plays, and because she has such a divisive public persona, almost from the start it's been impossible to separate discussion of the show from discussion of Dunham herself. People who object to "Girls" tend to object to Dunham, and vice versa. For the most part, "Girls" doesn't concern itself with the furor that wraps around the show, but every now and then, it can't help but touch on the public conflation of Hannah and Lena, and the various accusations leveled against the fictional woman and the real one(*). The most memorable of those from previous seasons was at this stage of season 2, when Donald Glover's character objected...

Michael Pitt, who played Mason Verger in NBC’s Hannibal, is leaving the show, according to TVLine. Joe Anderson (Across the Universe, The Divide) will continue the role of the sociopathic heir of a meat-packing dynasty who is full of himself for the third season.
Some Spoilers for Hannibal Season 2 follow, as well as descriptions of some of the show’s graphic content.
In the second season of Hannibal, Mason was a patient of Dr. Lecter, but turned the sessions into a power struggle over his sister Margo. Dr. Lecter later drugged Mason with psychotropic medication. Mason then broke into Will Graham’s house and carved parts of his face off and fed it to the dogs, and himself.
The change in actors will probably come off surprising well, considering the character’s lack of a face.

If you're an avid watcher of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal (as we are), then we have some bad news: Michael Pitt, who plays the psychopathic rich kid Mason Verger, won't be back. That doesn't mean his character is gone, though. TVLine reports that Joe Anderson (pictured here), who comes to us from TV shows like The River and The Divide, will take his place. Hannibal fans know that Mason's face is now virtually unrecognizable (I mean, remember what happened?) so it will be a matter of the kind of vocal and physical tics he brings. Either way: Bring on season three! We're starving.

It was recently announced that Michael Pitt would not be returning for Hannibal‘s third season (set to appear on NBC in 2015) to play now-disfigured farmer Mason Verger, instead being replaced by Joe Anderson (The Divide, The River). And it appears people aren’t too happy; though he only appeared in a few episodes, Pitt’s over-the-top performance as Verger was a delicious ingredient in Hannibal‘s twisted, surrealist pie of season two. While the reasons he left are unknown (those who speculate it was his history of being difficult on set are just plain irresponsible), it’s an interesting development for the show’s third season, which is rumored to prominently feature a Verger-led manhunt for the fleeing Hannibal Lecter. However, I don’t think it’s really that big a deal Pitt was re-cast; the events of his time with Dr. Lecter have left him wildly disfigured, eliminating...

Hannibal was one of the most chilling shows on television this year, thanks in no small part to Michael Pitt’s unhinged take on billionaire sadist Mason Verger. For those hoping for a repeat performance, I’m sad to say that Pitt will not be returning to the show, and that the role has been recast. Pitt has reportedly opted out of returning for Hannibal‘s highly-anticipated third season and will be replaced by Across the Universe and The Divide actor Joe Anderson.
As disappointed as I am that Pitt won’t be back, this casting change couldn’t come at a more opportune time. When last we saw Verger, he was in particularly bad shape (feeding parts of your face to dogs will do that), so showrunner Bryan Fuller should have no problem masking the actor shuffle with a bit of makeup.
In fact, it looks like Fuller is doing just that.

The four-series deal between Marvel and Netflix is slowly edging closer to screens, with new names added to the casting shortlists for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. With the first of the four shows – Daredevil – already in production, Jones, Cage and Iron Fist are still to be cast, before the four characters come together for a Defenders mini-series.
As the second of the four series, Jessica Jones will be written and executive produced by Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight), and features the titular character who essentially originated in the story of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. She was present when he was bitten by the radioactive spider, and was soon exposed to radiation herself in a car crash that killed her entire family. Adopted by the Jones family, she soon discovered she had superpowers. Eventually hanging up her superhero cape, she founded a private detective agency, through which she is continually, and reluctantly, drawn back into the superhero life.

WEtv’s first attempt at a scripted series failed, as they announced no second season for The Divide. Richard Lagravenese and Tony Goldwyn’s justice system based show did not do anything that other shows from the past did not touch on. The unique show with not the best star power was also deeply ignored with a summer release. The first and only season actually even ended without much say as it wrapped up back in August. The network finally confirmed the news that everyone expected this week.
I am sad that it failed. I don’t think WEtv knew exactly what they got themselves in with their first scripted show. Most of those need a more heavy hand in PR than their counterparts that are reality tv. However, we do applaud them for stepping out of their comfort and perhaps they learned what they need to do next time.

A review of tonight's "Masters of Sex" coming up just as soon as I try a special tonic straight from India... "You think it's enough to fix the outside. That's the easy part." -Frank Last week's episode squeezed the passage of three years into a single hour. "Mirror, Mirror" takes place over only a week or so, yet in some ways feels like it's taking just as big a leap forward — if not always gracefully. Over the course of the episode, Virginia not only convinces Bill to start examining sexual dysfunction, but to find ways to treat it. And when Barbara proves beyond Virginia's ability to treat — and when Bill points out that her dream of becoming a trained psychologist will take her years to fulfill — Ginny comes up with the unorthodox (and guaranteed to blow up in her face) plan to impersonate Barbara while meeting with a local shrink...

In this exclusive scene from Wednesday's episode of “The Divide,” a prison visit gets a tad intense. As prison visits tend to do. We tv's first original scripted drama, co-created by Richard Lagravenese (“Behind the Candelabra,”) and Tony Goldwyn (“Scandal”) examines morality, politics and race in the justice system. It's seen through the eyes of Christine Rosa, played by Marin Ireland, and passionate prosecutor Adam Page, played by Damon Gupton. Those who watched last week’s twisty premiere of WEtv’s new scripted drama, The Divide, know that Innocence Initiative case worker Christina (Homeland’s Marin Ireland) is full of surprises—for example, she drives around Philly singing along to Mos Def’s “Quiet Dog.”
“That was Richard Lagravenese’s pick. He just had a feeling that that is exactly the kind of music she would listen to. Of course it’s like the fastest song in the world. They were like, ‘Can you just learn all the lyrics to this song? We don’t know what part we’re gonna use yet.

The Divide, a legal drama created by Richard Lagravenese (Behind the Candelabra) and Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), was originally developed by AMC in 2012. But when AMC held off on giving the green light to the series, it seemed like the perfect vehicle for sister network We tv to get into the scripted arena. It was the right choice. In the wake of marquee series like Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, the nuanced legal drama The Divide might have not have gotten a chance to prove itself. On We tv, it has the opportunity to develop as that

WEtv joins the scripted world this month with The Divide, a legal drama exploring a racially charged case and the impact that a crime has on those involved. The Divide stars Marin Ireland as Christine Rosa, an impassioned caseworker with the Innocence Initiative who delves into the case of a death-row inmate she believes was wrongly convicted of a young family's heinous murder 11 years earlier. She chases down new evidence in a search for the truth and confronts an equally passionate district attorney, Adam Page (Damon Gupton), whose view of justice is colored by shades of gray. Scandal star Tony Goldwyn couldn't be happier for the three Emmy nominations the show received this morning. Kerry Washington, Joe Morton and Kate Burton are all up for trophies on the big night. "It made me so glad when I heard their names today," Goldwyn told me earlier today while promoting his new We tv series, The Divide (more on that in a second). Scandal isn't back shooting yet, so Goldwyn said, "I sent Kerry an email this morning going, 'You are having some year, mama!'" Mama? Too cute! Yes, he's up for babysitting for the new mom. "I've offered multiple times," Goldwyn said. "My babies are all grown up so I'm ready for more...

We tv has ordered a horror series that combines the talents of creatives from Paranormal Activity, Dexter, and Hostel.
The network has greenlit South of Hell, about a young demon hunter in Savannah, Georgia who struggles with her own internal possession. The main character, Maria Abascal, is described as a “stunning, 30-year-old demon-hunter-for-hire. Alongside her brother, David, she is skilled and fearless in her pursuit of the demons that live in others. Like those that she hunts, Maria is divided within herself, struggling with her own demon, Abigail, who resides inside of her, feeding on the evil Maria exorcises from others.

Marin Ireland (Homeland) has been added to the fourth season of HBO comedy Girls as recurring. I hear she will play the rich, sexual, beautiful but cold Logan, a classmate of Hannah’s (Lena Dunham) at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. Ireland joins Desiree Akhavan and Peter Mark Kendall, who also will recur as students in the writing program. Ireland, repped by ICM Partners and Brookside Artist Management, is the female lead of We TV’s first scripted drama The Divide from Richard Lagravanese and Tony Goldwyn, which premieres in July.

It’s spring again, time for an AMC’s annual tradition of meetings with the writers/producers of the scripts the network brass had identified as the strongest pilot contenders. The pilot script showcase, nicknamed by agents and producers a “bake-off,” includes a series of presentations, in which the auspices of the selected projects lay out for top AMC execs their vision for their show beyond the pilot with the help of visual aids, including demo reels. The network would not comment, though I hear at least five drama scripts are being spotlighted. That includes the Scott Free-produced World War II drama Raiders, which also made the cut for the script showcase last year, three projects from AMC’s March 2013 development slate: Ashland, White City and the Dahvi Waller Project, as well as one drama from the network’s recent March 2014 development slate, The Sparrow. Of last year’s three scripts,...
