Pilot

Matthew Perry returned to television for a third attempt (we won't count to Showtime pilot 'The End of Steve' that didn't make it to air) at being on a long-running show again after 'Friends'.

And 'Go On' for me was his best attempt in the genre of comedy. This show allowed him to be both funny, but also play some dramatic moments too.

It does perhaps 'solve' the problem his previous show 'Mr Sunshine' faced (basically that he was playing a not very likable character) by giving his character here a reason for being that way, but there certainly is a better quality of writing on display here.

All in all, Perry is on top form, the supporting cast are good, and this show has potential.

Warning: Spoilers
Once again Matthew perry is at it trying to start a new comedy for himself, will he be successful this time? He plays Ryan King a radio host who has recently lost his wife and of course he has these maybe hidden issues with the lose but all he wants to do is go back to work for a distraction. Then when he is sent to group therapy we meet the rest of the big cast with Laura Benanti playing the woman who brings all these people together to talk about their issues. I thought the pilot was OK and out of the comedies Perry has done lately to me this one has the most potential to actually make me feel sympathy for the character. Perry was the standout and looks like he could very much be one of the most underrated TV actors out there. Tony winner Laura Benanti had a funny line but that's really it as they her not much to do, but they seem to be setting up a potential romance between the two as they have very good chemistry together and that is something I would watch. The ensemble as a whole seems to do good together but once again it is a pilot so I cannot really judge how a show about a man who lost his wife can be funny, but I will give it a season watch maybe.

EPISODE GRADE: B- (MVP: Matthew Perry)
