Luke has had it with magic. He begs Claire to plead to his father to let him quit doing his tricks around the house. Phil, clearly disappointed, but not trying to show it, goes along with the request, only asking his son to do a last Butler's Escape skit. Luke does it almost effortlessly, while Phil, putting his own costume, cannot manage to get out.

Jay is having a tough time with Gloria's snoring. Not only him, but Manny is also bothered by the loud snores coming from his mother's bedroom. Jay decides to find a solution by pretending to go to San Francisco, but checks into a hotel. He is not prepared for a surprise he was not planning for.

Cam has a new job replacing a music teacher in Manny's and Luke's class. He is not prepared for the reaction of the kids in his class, for they do not appreciate his teaching skills. Meantime, Mitch has to take over his partner's chores with Lily, something that proves to be too much.

Directed by Beth McCarthy Miller, and written by Bill Wrubell, the episode gets things right with all three families. The cast does everything right, resulting in a fun time for the viewer.

Boring weak episode

I easily watched and rewatched pretty much all episodes of Modern Family early on. They were enjoyable. It wasn't until later when they got really really REALLY bad and unwatchable that I started watching them with a more critical eye.

This episode I remember being fine or ok. But looking back and probably seeing it for about the 5th time maybe...this episode is mediocre at best. Can easily skip this on rewatches.

Luke is following in his father's footsteps to become a magician. Also Cameron is starting a job as a music teacher at school walking his family up in the night with Lily making him stop. Gloria is missing Jay as he is leaving for his trip to San Fransisco.Cameron comes out in a yellow shirt with a music note on it for his new job as a music teacher. Luke says to Claire that he wants to stop doing magic but Phil does not think he should stop doing it. Luke then disappears as he gets angry. Cameron teaching music is too much for these people. While trying to teach the class it does not go well. Jay calls Claire looking for advice to deal with Gloria snoring but she says he must accept it while still wondering how much weight she has gained. While in the staff room Cameron seems to be alone. Phil brings up the idea of Luke doing The butler's escape. Alex then tells her mom that her friend got pregnant and that is why she is mean lately. Luke quits his magic as Phil try's to do the hard trip. While spending an evening with Cameron we see that it was Claire who was helping Mitchell but they do not thank her. When Gloria calls jay saying she is in Chicago he packs quickly to get home but she was angry so she slaps him. Alex and Jaley talk and Haley is very mean to her. Boring episode.
