Nannies (#8.3)

Warning: Spoilers
A Lily and Marshall episode but not as great as the ones they had before the baby. Still it brought some laughter.. Although things like Marshall playing with the toy was a pretty old and overplayed sitcom joke, sure Jasen Segel is a great actor to make it funny, but it is just not the quality we are used to in the show.

It was pretty fun to observe Robin and Ted try to compete on who has a better relationship, including the shortcomings of their partners that we know the two would hate. Barney being single again was also not bad, especially being beaten up by the nanies and and hooking up with the older one.

Neil Patrick Harris Raises Quality Of Episode

How do you get a show like "How I Met Your Mother" out of a slump?? More Neil Patrick Harris of course, then add some more of the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris, with an additional dollop of the wonderful Neil Patrick Harris for good measure.

OK he's not in it THAT much, but he is vital to this episode being better than its predecessors.

Plot In A Paragraph: After his break-up with Quinn, Barney is getting right back on the saying scene with what he is calling Bangtoberfest "It's a thing" Meanwhile, Lily and Marshall haven't been able to find a nanny that they can afford. However, when they do, they hit a stumbling block, whilst Ted and Robin compete over which of their current relationships is at a better place.

The episode is still not great, but Neil Patrick Harris raises it to a higher standard.

This show has gone downhill very quickly. If another show happens to fall into this time slot, I'd dump "How I Met Your Mother" in a second. I find that I am not laughing or even smiling when I watch. It's cliché' followed by cliché'. I've given up on who the mother is at this point - I really don't care. I suppose it works out that this is the final season. I can't imagine them dragging out this plot for another 3 or 4 seasons. It's really too bad. This show was funny during the beginning but now it's filled with a terrible laugh track and jokes that may be funny - if you're a teenager. Most shows finish strong and keep audiences hanging on or longing for another season. Not this show.
