Scandal - Spies Like Us
Scarecrow-8821 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Huck must gather up his old gang of spies (killers for the CIA representing a certain top secret operation) when their reps are threatened by one of their own as a notorious hacker plans to release their identities and what crimes have been committed by them. Olivia makes it a mission to keep Huck in her fold so she will manage this new crisis with intense focus. Meanwhile, she needs to split apart Abby and David due to Hollis Doyle (and Cy needs to get his husband to no longer write articles on the guy; Doyle's enormous presence at the White House has earned him an infamy that is hard to ignore), so Olivia initiates a lie regarding how Rosen is responsible for the abuse of a former love twenty years ago. Abby being a victim of abuse certainly heats up her rage against David who isn't a bad guy in the slightest…again he's a victim of Olivia's crisis management. This is interesting in that Olivia clearly realizes Abby and David seem to be on the verge of real happiness. She longs for that, too, but because they could bust wide open a voting machine scandal, Olivia must fracture their union. Huck is initially unsure if the girl in his life is legitimately normal or some governmental plant (who could blame this guy who has reasons to be paranoid and vulnerable in why a pretty girl would be interested in him). The episode hits it off with a bang…literally. A former head of Huck's operative gang shoots himself in the head near a post office mailbox. This instigates the episode's story and once again calls into question Huck's rough past. The murder of a member of the gang and the clean up as Huck must sit while it all happens in such an orderly fashion is a stunning sequence. Olivia consoling Abby after motivating Harrison to implicate David as a wifebeater falsely is a harsh reality in this world of keeping secrets concealed by demeaning good people. Olivia moves ahead in a sexual relationship with Edison after destroying Abby's potential happiness. Sacrifice of such nature pushing Olivia into Edison's arms should produce fascinating results. That the spies have integrated themselves into normal lives, full functioning as best they can considering they hurt and killed for a living in the past, is an intriguing development to see as the gang gather together in one room, depending upon Olivia to save them. How a bank deposit number and a prescription across the phone derive the answer to the gang's mole is quite a doozy.
