Most of this film takes place in the library of a grand house, with a view of the famous Howick Falls in the background. The library set was in fact built on a hill opposite the falls, so the actual view could be captured in each scene.
This film is thought to be lost.
Filmed in and around Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, though the cast and production team were based in Johannesburg.
Producer Joseph Albrecht provoked the ire of the residents of a nearby village after rumors began to circulate that he planned to send a wagonette, with two live horses still attached, over Howick Falls. Albrecht insisted to the locals that no such scene was planned, and contemporary reviews don't suggest that any such scene appeared in the film.
