English band Broadcast will release two new demo collections in 2024: Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006-2009 (out May 3rd) and Distant Call – Collected Demos 2000-2006 (out September 28th).
Broadcast, the electronic dream pop project of James Cargill and Trish Keenan, who died of pneumonia in 2011, previously reissued their entire discography in 2015. Now, Cargill is unearthing dozens of demos collected over a 10-year span. According to a press release, Spell Blanket comprises of “songs and sketches” from Trish’s “extensive archive of 4-track tapes and MiniDiscs” that would have eventually served as Broadcast’s fifth album.
Distant Call, on the other hand, comprises of early demos that eventually would appear on their albums Haha Sound, Tender Buttons, and The Future Crayon. The album also features “Come Back To Me” and “Please Call To Book,” two songs that Cargill discovered after Keenan’s death. The latter song was Keenan’s entry for...

Brandy Clark could probably use a little rest. In the week before she sits down with me in Nashville, she’s been in New York to appear on Today — which required a 5 a.m. glam appointment — then attended a Tony Awards luncheon before heading to Los Angeles for another event, and then back home to Nashville. Somewhere in the middle of that, she had something like 26 straight hours of being awake.
Despite a stifled yawn or two, Clark has plenty to be excited about right now. In addition to putting out a new album,...

In both content and style, Brandy Clark’s self-titled new album serves as a homecoming following three bold, loosely conceptual releases that situated her in a lane distinct from the parochial strictures of country radio. Not only does the album find her singing openly about her background, including her family (“She Smoked in the House”) and home state of Washington (“Northwest”), it also hews closer to country conventions than her prior releases.
While a self-titled album is often intended as a defining creative statement, a summation of an artist’s legacy or style, Brandy Clark is more uncharacteristic. Instead of foregrounding Clark’s knack for wordplay and humor, the album announces the singer as a virtuosa, engaging with country music’s well-worn tropes with both skill and refinement.

Despite the WGA picketers outside, NBC held its upfront presentation Monday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Missed the star-free event that was hosted mostly by news personalities, Real Housewives and Mario Lopez? Here were the highlights:
Seth MacFarlane got another chance to show off his singing pipes — and crude sense of humor — by appearing in a pre-taped segment as his alter-ego Ted at the top of the presentation: he sang an original song about NBC selling ads about “detergent and feminine pads” and “kicking nads.” In 2021, Peacock gave a straight-to-series order to a live-action comedy series based on MacFarlane’s 2012 movie featuring the furry character.

Brandy Clark and Brandi Carlile make a dream pairing as collaborators on Clark’s latest album. The self-titled release, which was produced by Carlile, will be released May 19 and includes the new track “Buried.”
Clark’s fingerstyle guitar playing is the foundation on which “Buried” is built, and it’s from there that other layers are added in slow succession. It’s a subtle, unfussy recording, framing Clark’s melancholy delivery perfectly, and as a song, it’s full of characteristically great Clark lines. In the opening verse, Clark ponders getting out of town,...

Exclusive: Malin Akerman has come aboard to star in Chick Fight, an action comedy being directed by Paul Leyden. The new project is being produced by Akerman; Yale Productions’ Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman and Michael J. Rothstein; Idiot Savant Pictures’ Anne Clements; and Ash Christian.
The film, which reteams Akerman and Leyden after they worked together on the 2009 short film Bye Bye Sally, will be presented to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market.
The original script from Joseph Downey centers on Anna (Akerman), who still hasn’t reconciled with the recent death of her adored mother. She’s also just discovered her loving and supportive father is gay. And she accidentally burns down her uninsured coffee shop. Knowing Anna needs to be abruptly shaken and stirred from her deep funk, her best friend Charleen takes Anna to an all-women underground fight club,...

Kane Brown achieved country stardom his own way — after bailing on X Factor USA’s attempt to shoehorn him into a boy band, the baritone decided to post covers of tracks by Nashville stars like George Strait and Lee Brice online, which led to him racking up numbers that no label could deny. His story, and his willingness to throw any sound into his mix, makes the tattooed, biracial Brown an ideal male country star for this moment; the definition of “country” is expanding, bringing in ideas from hip-pop and...

Below is the music video for Liam Gallagher's Come Back To Me, directed by Shane Meadows. The video takes Liam Gallagher back to King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, the venue where Alan McGee discovered Oasis.
Liam had this to say about working with Meadows.
"It was an honour to work with Shane for this video – he’s one of the best British directors around,” said Liam. “It was great to return to the scene of the crime King Tut’s where it all began and the fans never disappoint.”Shane Meadows added:
“I have only made two official pop promos since I started making films back in 1994. When the chance to make the video for ‘Come Back To Me’ came up, the timing was awful as I was right in the middle of editing my new series. But there’s certain things in life you can’t not do...

When Arnold Scaasi opened his couture salon in 1964, he soon became a couturier to the stars. He was already a favoured designer for Barbra Streisand when he famously dressed her for the 1969 Oscars. Streisand was up for Best Actress for her movie debut in Funny Girl and was established as something of an ‘individual’; usually described as ‘kooky’, she was completely different from anyone else, an innovator of style, and challenging and changing the ideas of beauty. So it is no surprise that when it came to her clothing choice for the Oscars, Streisand resisted the usual protocol of an evening gown and instead opted for a most extraordinary Scaasi-designed pant suit. Made from black, sheer, sequined net fabric, the over-blouse had a white peter-pan collar with black pussy bow and over-sized white cuffs, while in Scaasi’s own words, the ‘bell-bottomed trousers were exaggerated and had many godets flaring...

Today the New Zealand country singer released the music video for “Come Back to Me,” a lovelorn post-break up track. It’s a melancholy affair where Urban, playing his guitar amid a bare room, is haunted by memories of his ex. Read the complete article at Radio.com.

The 87th Academy Awards are finally over. Now that we've all had a chance to try and rid ourselves of our massive celebratory hangovers, let's tackle the most important question of the day: How did Kristopher Tapley and Gregory Ellwood do with their 2015 Oscar predictions? We're so glad you asked because we were curious, too! It turns out that Tapley is the co-King of the Oscar pundits. He predicted 20 out of the 24 categories, matching Kyle Buchanan of Vulture. Ellwood predicted 17 correctly, tying him with Mark Harris of Grantland, but behind Glenn Whipp of the La Times and Steve Pond at The Wrap (but also ahead of a lot of other famous bylines). Let's take a moment and see where we both scored and where we failed miserably, because we expect we'll never live it down. Animated Short Greg - Correct Kris - Correct Live Action Short Greg - Wrong Kris...
