Rip Crixus

Warning: Spoilers
Tiberius has been litteraly backstabbing everyone in this episode. First Cesar and then both Agron and Crixus. Just waits arround like the coward he is and attacks everyone from behind as soon he gets the chance to claim glory for himself. Great actor, hated character.

Crixus has been one of the main mans in this show and its sad to see him killed by the hand of that coward Tiberius.

Amazing epsiode and battle as usually.

Epic!

Goodbye Crixus and Agron. You were pretty good guys. You almost defeated Rome. I hope Spartacus is able to defeat Crassus. This is the best show ever. Atticus and Beau would enjoy it.

What's the Opposite of Epic?

Warning: Spoilers
I think this might be the only episode of all the seasons combined which has actually left me feeling disappointed afterwards. Usually the cut at the end has me foaming at the mouth and declaring the director a devious bastard for leaving me on the edge of my seat. This episode just left me saying 'meh'.

It was of course apparent that those going to lay siege to Rome were going to their deaths but so far every major character has been given a pretty epic end. So for them to simply kill off a bunch of the big characters like this just felt... cheap. The montage of battle scenes leading up to the inevitable end didn't come off as remotely epic and left the entire episode just feeling rushed and disjointed. It was trying to tell too much story in too little time.

My rule of thumb with killing off main characters is that there are generally two ways to go about it: totally sudden and unexpected (ie. Joss Whedon style) or with a dramatic build up that leaves you almost dreading the inevitable end and left wondering how it will come about. This episode did neither. It killed characters off suddenly but since we knew the story demanded that they die there was no drama in it whatsoever. Oenomaus (most annoying spelling ever) had a pretty damn epic end. As did Asher, Batiatus, Glaber, Lucretia, Ilithyia... etc. I feel Crixus and Agron deserved the same kind of end. A montage, followed by Roman bowling followed by getting stabbed in the back just doesn't seem right.

Then there was the scene with Tiberius and Caesar... it just came out of nowhere and made virtually no sense. All in all it just had me laughing at the absurdity of the thing. A rape scene should not be funny. That was probably the first thing that just ruined this episode.

I had no investment whatsoever in most of the story. The rebels splitting up and going separate ways seems like something which makes sense when pursued by a single Roman army. However it then cut to the Roman commanders discussing the fact that they split up with no explanation as to how they knew. Troop movements are one thing but how did they come about the information that Crixus was heading to Rome and Spartacus going the other way? There was just no explanation given. Are we to assume that they have spies in their midst or did a passing time traveller hand the Roman scouts a pair of high powered binoculars? The notion of this series all along has been that Spartacus and Crassus are fairly well matched tactical minds and both adept at deceit but now the only conclusion I can jump to is that Crassus is also a psychic. Which hardly seems fair.

The only way this series is going to redeem itself for me now is if the final two episodes are just one massive battle scene. Possibly with dinosaurs in it. All along it has been peppered with these minute long montages of battle followed by a half hour of the rebels revelling in their success so I can only hope they have done this to whet our appetites for the finale.

Worst episode ever.

Warning: Spoilers
One of the strongest and most important man in the entire history of the world gets raped by a stupid arrogant boy. Whose idea was that? I'm not even going to talk about major character's death scenes. This episode was just terribly written and terribly directed.

Worst Spartacus episode ever
tj_p23 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I do love this show a lot, but this particular episode is the worst directed episode of the whole Spartacus series. Come on, we all knew Crixus was gonna die, but why make it that evident and by such a little kid.

The editing was horrible compare to other episodes of the show, I think they need to remake this one.

I am so hoping the next 2 episode live up to expectation, because if they plan wrapping up the show with this same Director then we are gonna regret watching the whole thing to begin with.

I have my fingers crossed and hoping the next 2 episodes will be better. RIP Crixus

The most nonsensical episode of spartacus ever *Major Spoilers*
gorgehades25 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This has to be the worst spartacus episode ever. Everything from the directing to the acting to the stunts to the CG were absolutely pathetic. First of all the beginning is very incoherent and once things do start to make sense it becomes way too predictable..i mean i don't expect plots on the lines of Rome or Game of Thrones but this is just stupid. For example near the end of the episode when crixus kills off arrius and immediately gets ambushed by crassus..i mean how the hell is it that he didn't notice crassus's army....surely crixus should have seen them march...how can you miss something that big...its just borderline stupid.Even the Sex scenes were stupid..one thing i like about spartacus is that intimacy scenes are very well portrayed..not in this one though..spartacus and laeta's scene feels just so cold and lacks passion..same goes for naevia's and crixus's scene..that gets over in about 2 seconds..i mean why bother adding it then ?

Now coming to the acting .. the guy who plays tiberius is just so so bad..it annoys the hell out of me just to watch him babble...i could only barely tolerate him in the other episodes but in this its just too much...the scene in which he forces himself upon caesar should be an intense and emotionally driven scene but i found it hilarious ( and i do not mean the good hilarious ) this guy cant act for s**t. Gannicus literally has a few seconds of screen time in this one..which is sad..because he's a talented actor.

The direction is horrendous..the director should be sacked because of the way he killed off agron and crixus... agron's death is rushed over...you'd expect him to die by the hands of another central character in an epic one on one which would include beheading or intestines falling out given the nature of the show but he falls from the hands of a common soldier just like that... at-least the director tries to make crixus's death memorable.. doesn't achieve it though...you'd expect a really shocking or heroic way for crixus's to die but it seemed very undramatic and poorly directed..

all in all 2/10

Worst episode in the shows history
nickmascall19 September 2021
Such a shame that they decided to tell this part of the story this way. A slidshow leading to a death that was so weak. The character deserved better.
