Director Brian Helgeland’s Legend (2015) tells the based-on true story of Ronald and Reggie Kray: twins (both played by Tom Hardy), East End boys, racketeers, murderers, icons. The Krays were shaped during the 1960s, a post World War II boom for England. They came to symbolise the smartly dressed gangster for a new youth-orientated generation. They had money and they wanted to flaunt it – and that meant suits and a lot of jewellery.
Costume designer for Legend, Caroline Harris, boasting over 20 years experience in both film and television with credits such as Mr Nice (2010), Red Riding (2009) and Fleming (2014), here chats exclusively to Clothes on Film about her work on the project:
Legend is not set during the ‘swinging sixties’; there is still an air of long-established formality present, especially in nightclubs in casinos.
How did you approach your overall representation of the 1960s?
The 1960s was an entire decade and fashion changed and developed throughout.

Followers of the Chinese calendar will be aware that 2016 is the year of Felicity Jones (not strictly true, but you take the point). She has parlayed her Oscar nomination for The Theory Of Everything into lead roles in two of the biggest franchises in the known universe: she stars alongside Tom Hanks in an adaptation of Dan Brown's Dante–juggling Inferno, and heads a mission to steal the Death Star plans in a certain Star Wars Story name of Rogue One. In the meantime, in the interest of keeping in with Felicity, we would like to draw your intention to a really good short film she has made entitled Emily. In striking contrast to the blockbusters to come, the London-set film is a highly personal drama (so no Tie fighters) about a brief encounter between lonely strangers offering the chance to act out their sexual fantasies. Christopher Eccleston plays opposite Jones.

One of last night's most unnerving moments may well have been hearing Big Eyes mentioned multiple times. It's easy to forget that the movie is out in theaters now, since it didn't make big Christmas waves in the media or the box office (it's likely to end its run as Burton's second least successful film of all time after Ed Wood which is 100 times better), didn't earn rave reviews (it's sitting at 70% on Rotten Tomatoes which is, shall we say, generous) so Amy Adams surprise upon winning is entirely understandable.
To say that I am ill prepared for this moment is a huge understatement. Huge."
The surprise win reminds us that she's been generously adored by nearly all the awards communities for years now, an embryonic-Meryl perhaps. This season provides the biggest test yet of how much of a default nominee she truly is with AMPAS. If she manages an...

In this week’s serving of The Leftovers, Meg, Tom, Mayor Lucy — lotsa people go missing. But they haven’t joined the ranks of the Departed, they’ve just stepped away from the spotlight so that the series can dish out a Very Special Episode devoted to Christopher Eccleston’s Reverend Matt. And, in fact, it is pretty special. Read on, and I’ll tell you all about it…

In its third week, The Leftovers takes the bold step of focusing in on one character: Reverend Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston), a figure we haven’t yet gotten a chance to know or really care about. Up until this point, his appearances on the show have involved him yelling at people during the Heroes Day Parade, yelling at people outside a coffee-shop, and giving mysterious town sad-sack Nora Durst a hug. It’s a recurring issue with The Leftovers that character development gets the shaft in favor of atmosphere-building. So, Lindelof and co. have seen fit to give Matt his very own episode – a smart move, as it turns out. This week, he deals with his post-Rapture difficulties, including declining attendance at his church, death threats and his own screwed-up belief system. Strap in, Leftlovers (too soon?), it’s another punishing hour in Mapleton.
