Character Devlopment Abandoned for Hocus-Pocus
Eradan20 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This would have been an excellent episode if it weren't for all the witchcrap. Unfortunately, the writers would have us believe that the major plot development that climaxes the episode occurs through witchy-poo. I'm sorry; that is just not something I'm prepared to accept in a drama set anywhere outside of Middle-Earth or Westeros. I'm not familiar with Philippa Gregory's work so maybe I was simply unprepared for something her readers would have seen coming. I came into this expecting an historical drama NOT a fantasy. Although the fact that the characters, Elizabeth Woodville and her mother, believed in occultism had been brought up in both of the previous episodes, viewers had not up till now been clubbed over the head with it. You could watch the show, interpreting their behavior as just medieval folk culture, without being expected to believe that some of the characters had magical powers.
