I'm beginning to wonder about Abigail's choices, having found out William was not a paragon and now going after Tom.
It might have been built up a bit more if we'd had more episodes this season, but it was still done well enough that I do understand. (But I'm with Kate on this--as many things--and I do not approve.)
If her first born turns out to be a hybridized Walker-Davidson? Writers, please no, the squick is real.

Meanwhile, I fully appreciate the poker room story line and how the writers logically moved most of the gang over to a rival saloon. Hagan's feels.
Loved seeing Hagan back, that he's made up with Kate and his relationship with Lucia.
Loved their scam, with all the interlocking parts and the flashback recap at the end.
It gave us the story of how the original Hoyt got to the Sidestep. (Does this mean he ends up with Lucia as end game? I hope we get a few more seasons to tell.)
The ensemble in this show works so well.

While the saloon scam was slick and fast-paced, the story line with Calian and Augustus was opened up and angsty as heck.
Serious issues of losing your culture and whether to choose assimilation.
And Augustus might have a family we haven't met? Plot twist. (Make that many more seasons we need to unpack this era--all of whom connect up to the modern show.)
I think my favorite section this episode was with Calian and Augustus. The acting was superb. There was enough space to the pacing to "breathe" a bit. And the dialogue was spot on.
Also, in all the episode, but especially with these two, we got to see the amazing town and country around Independence.
What an absolutely beautiful show.
