A good character development episode.
mm-3927 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
There is a mole in the K G B and Phil is interrogated. Phil's suspicions of Liz is widening. The character development of Liz being an out of control ideologue, and Phil as a pragmatist is coming into fruition. The distrust, and stress of the K G B couple's job is fracturing the couple's relationship. While F B I agent Stan manipulates the real K G B mole we see the strain/guilt wear on Stan. There is a human element in The Americans, which makes the show oh so interesting. We see screw ups, faults, and well rounded characters. Trust Me gives depth to the series characters. I give Trust Me an eight out of ten.

Very strong and gripping episode with excellent performances

Elizabeth and Phillip find themselves under interrogation.

This is a very strong episode with a number of gripping plots that work well together and bring the theme of trust into sharp focus.

The story contains a number of reveals that are crucial to how events unfold so it is impossible to go into any detail without spoiling. Let's just say trust is explored in numerous scenes. Trusting someone whether it be your spouse, parents, government, a stranger or a co-conspirator is the ultimate leap of faith. When someone places that faith in you it is comes with a degree of power. This can lead to suspicion, resentment, conflict and in some cases the breakdown of relationships. 'Trust Me' explores a lot of this in a very compelling way.

From a filmmakers perspective there is much to admire in this episode. The cinematography and editing present a number of suspenseful and exciting sequences, some of which I didn't see coming, whereas others display a creeping sense of inevitability.

All performances are excellent and feel plausible even in the circumstances that seem highly unlikely.

This show is coming out swinging!

This show continues to grip me. The dynamic between Phillip and Elizabeth could not be more fascinating. The direction and pacing of the episodes. Of course, much of it is familiar to anyone who had watched 24 or any other thriller-drama. Keri Russell blows my mind. I'm addicted to her face. The scene where she goes all Fight Club on Claudia had me exhale a 'wow'.

The creepy driver guy plotline added to the sense of vulnerability of the children, even if it feels like it's pushing the boundaries of needing to having 'eventful' occurrences.

Review of Season 1: Episodes 4-6
8512229 February 2015
Greetings from Lithuania.

"The Americans" (2013-) fourth, fifth and sixth episodes were pretty solid, with sixth as the best from the three. Acting is OK usual, with some pretty good addition of Margo Martindale. Plot is evolving and keep getting more interesting, but nothing groundbreaking so far. It keeps you involved in the story which is good, but somehow it didn't blew me away like for example "Homeland" did. It's nice / good, but nothing very special yet.

Overall, if you like first three episodes so far, you will like 4-6 episodes. For 4 and 5 i voted 8, and i gave 9 for 6th.

Warning: Spoilers
Both thrilling and riveting were the scenes or torture Philip and Elizabeth had to go through which surprisingly was all ordered by Claudia which I was not expecting to happen. The mole in the KGB gets closer to be found out as Nina continues to do things for the FBI she should not be doing if she wants to live. I was very frightened by the scenes in small spaces that still could not break the couple of Philip and Elizabeth only to see if they were the moles which they were not. The beating Elizabeth gave Claudia was such a great moment and Russell continues to get better in the role just as the show gets better with this being the strongest episode of the season so far. The Stan character has always been a problem for me because he has felt so apart from the show but know he seems to be more related to the rest of the show which is a good thing for the show going forward. Margo getting beat by Russell was not funny in any way but quite tense and a very dramatic moment that obviously I cannot stop talking about. The kids were fine in the episode with their strange driver.

EPISODE GRADE: A- (MVP: Kerri Russell)

extreme actions from both sides

Warning: Spoilers
Philip and Elizabeth kidnapped at the beginning of the episode. They try to make us believe that the Americans may be doing this, but it's obvious that their allies are the kidnappers for two reasons, we know they are searching for a mole, so it makes sense to suspect them, plus only Russians knows their identity. The surprising thing though is that Philip and Elizabeth didn't suspect them, so they were shocked and reacted badly. Elizabeth just beat Claudia, I was afraid she might kill her, fortunately she didn't, because that would be a huge problem. Philip concludes that Elizabeth told them he was hesitating, which troubles the relationship even more. The logic thing is that they forget the past and start fresh, but since when humans follow logic.

The interesting part of the episode isn't Elizabeth side. It really is stan and Nina side. Stan tries to set up Vasili and makes it look like he is the mole in an incredible setup, a little risky because he needed to call the Russian office, plant diamonds into Vasili and have Nina photograph classified files, but it came to fruition. As a result of that Nina is safe for now. We also noticed the amount of joy stan had when he succeeded, that just proves my theory that Stan is starting to love Nina. We will see how that turns out.

The last part worth mentioning is the fact that the kids had a scare when they tried to get a ride from an unknown, they got away with it. They kept it a secret but I expect it to pop out at some time in the future.

Terrible plotline with many inconsitencies
haugengjelle6 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Why would trained KGB agent get threaten other KGB agents for doing their job? A mole was somewhere and it had to be found. Beating up their superior, and point guns at her was something only a bad writer could write, Also, if you are kidnapped by the FBI, the last thing you want to do is admit you are a KGB agent, and both of the main characters did so. Also neither of them suspect its the KGB kidnapping them when they know a mole is somewhere close to them? The incompetence is so unbelievable I lost immersion.
