The girl he found in the basement had to be left behind, but he plans on getting Emma to help rescue her. Norma doesn't believe Norman when he tells her what he found at Shelby's house. She tells him that he sometimes sees things that aren't really there and that Shelby's a nice guy. She promises Norman that the next time she stays over there she'll check it out. While at Shelby's, Norma decides to check the basement out for herself but finds no evidence of a girl living there. - "Bates Motel" - "Trust Me" - April 8, 2013
Norman is walking towards Deputy Shelby's house when a motorcycle rider stops and sees him. It's Dylan. He watches him go in and we see Norman's break in from last week fro Dylan's perspective. Dylan sees Shelby arrive home just as Norman's discovering the Chinese woman being held captive in the basement. Shelby hears his dog barking. The Chinese woman says help me as Norman realizes Shelby is home.
Shelby hears the doorbell ring. It's Dylan, he claims his bike just ran out of gas and asks for directions to a gas station as Norman tries to scape. The Chinese woman grabs his leg as he tries to leave. Shelby tells Dylan there's a Shell station two miles down the road. Dylan leaves just as he sees Norman running for the woods.
Norman heads home and Dylan confronts him and tells him he rang the bell to save his ass. He asks what kind of trouble he's in. Norman says he isn't in trouble.
The next day he goes to see Emma. He meets her dad at the front door and he says he's heard the a lot about Norman. Emma's got the flu and won't be in school for at least a week. Her dad says she's resting and he can't see her. He tells him that Emma has a crush on him and he seems like a nice kid and since Norman knows she has a lot of problems so to please be decent. Norman says he is decent.
Norma meets Deputy Shelby in his car and he immediately starts putting the moves on her. He wants to go to the motel and get it on. So they do. If she's acting that she's into it, she's putting on a convincing show. Afterwards she tells him he's awfully pretty.
When she leaves the room Dylan is outside waiting and busts her. She introduces them. They do not greet each other or make it clear that they met the night before.
Norman is washing windows at the Motel when he sees Bradley putting a cross marker at the spot where her father crashed across the road. He crouches beside her to console her. She cries.
Norma asks Dylan what he's doing in the kitchen. He's putting groceries away figuring he needed to contribute since he's living there. He asks how long she's been seeing Shelby and tells her to be careful because he doesn't trust him. Norma doesn't think it's any of his business.
Norman is heading home from the video store when he sees Shelby doing a traffic stop. Shelby calls to him but he doesn't stop. Shelby follows him and jokingly stops him by yelling 'freeze!" and shining a light in his face. He asks what he's doing. He says he's getting videos for Bradley to help take her mind off her dad dying. Shelby notes Norman is a sensitive kid. He tells him he really likes Norman's mom, she's a good woman and he cares for her so he thinks it would be a good, and even a necessary, idea for them to get to know each other better. He offers to teach him to fish. Norman tries to beg off but Shelby insists, saying he'll take him to his secret spot. He adds that he should not run away the next time he sees him on the street.
Norma is reading up about City Council meetings and public hearings when Norman says he needs to talk. He tells her that Shelby has a woman tied up in his basement and that he was running an Asian sex slave business with Keith. He tells her the whole story. And adds that it was her who told him to go steal the belt from Keith's house. She says sweetly, that sometimes he sees and hears things that aren't there. He doesn't believe her and she tells him not to be scared and that she'll protect him.
Later, she is in Shelby's bed. He sleeps and she gets up to go investigate. The basement door is open. She goes down and of course, finds nothing. Shelby arrives, menacingly behind her. She says she couldn't sleep so she decided to snoop around the rest of his house. She kisses him quiet.
The next day Norman asks where she was. She calls him jealous. He says he doesn't trust him and reiterates about the girl in the basement. She dutifully reports to Norman that he was wrong. He points out his injury where the girl grabbed him. Norma says it's going to be okay and that Shelby is taking him fishing and Norman has to go.
They head out to his secret spot. It is quite tranquil. Shelby asks about his dad, saying Norma told him he was abusive. Norman says he had his moments and that he never hurt him. Shelby says he's going to be in Norman's life and that he's protecting his mom and in the process protecting him. He says he wants to take care of them but it starts with trust and he says they need to know they can trust each other. Norman says he can trust him. Shelby says that makes him happy. Shelby gets an emergency call and has to cut the fishing trip short. Norman is not sad.
Shelby heads down to the docks. Sheriff Romero is there. They have found Keith's arm in the lake.
Back at home Norman gets a text from Bradley asking to get ice cream. They meet at the diner. She says he's one of the few people she can stand to be around since he doesn't judge her or push her to cheer up. She talks about how weird it is that something you take for granted can just be taken from you. He waxes eloquent about grief. He says it's the hardest thing of all, to let go of someone you love. She says she likes being with him. She mentions the cops found a hand in a fisherman's net. He gets nervous.
He runs home and tells Norma about the hand. She tells him not to panic. Then the doorbell rings. It's Shelby and he says "Mrs. Bates we need you to come down to the station."
Norma goes to chat with Romero. He simply says I need to tell you what happened. She says she was at home and came there. He asks her about Keith Summers. She says she told him everything he knows. He says they found carpet fibers under the watch on his hand and will match it to the carpet she was pulling up. She tells him to have fun doing that. He says he's trying to help her since he knows she didn't. He says he can't know that since she didn't. Romero says he was involved in a lot of things that could've gotten him killed but he knows he was mad at Norma and maybe threatened her. She says he didn't and she's not scared of Keith or him. He asks her where she dumped the carpet. She says he said he had it. He says he's going to get it and it could only be in three places but it would be easier if she just told him. She says she doesn't remember. He tells her they're done.
She and Norman go to the dumpster where they dumped the carpet but it's gone, as Norman predicted it would be. She calls the number on the side of the dumpster to see where it was taken, claiming she threw out her wedding ring by accident. She goes to the dump where it was taken and it's locked. She freaks out that she can't get in. Norman screams at her to calm down and reiterates that he told her to tell them she was defending herself. She says she wasn't and that she "killed the crap out of him" because she was so angry that he would come into her home and do that to her. She says he doesn't understand. Her whole life she's had to put up with things.
She cries through the night at home and Norman hears her through the grate and silently cries along with her. He walks outside to find Dylan hanging out in front of the motel. He starts to take off and Dylan asks why he always runs away from him. Norman says he doesn't. Dylan offers him a swig from a liquor bottle. Norman coughs. Dylan laughs. Norman says not to laugh at her. Dylan says he's sorry Norman had to deal with Norma alone since she's crazy. Norman says he has no idea. He tells him the whole story: the rape, the assault, Norma killing him, dumping the body. He tells him he's scared and that the sheriff is suspicious and it's his fault. He explains about the belt and how Shelby took it and that's why he broke into his house and how he's exploiting Norma. He then explains about the Asian girl and how he couldn't get her out. Dylan says he's going to help him. Norman gets a text from Bradley and Dylan tells him to tell her he's coming over. He says to trust him, he got laid when he was 12. He texts her and can't believe when she texts him back to come on over. Norman says he can't go now amid the craziness. Dylan tells him to go be a 17-year-old for 5 minutes and go have fun. He goes.
Norman heads over to Bradley's big huge rich girl house. Her mom is sedated. They go to Bradley's room. He sits on the bed at her urging. She thanks him for helping her. She takes his hand. She says she's tired of being sad and wants to feel something else for a little while. She asks if he thinks she's weird. He does not. She thanks him. He says it's his pleasure. They kiss and fall back on the bed. They have sex (it looks like.) it's very gauzy and blue and soft focus.
Meanwhile back at home Norma awakes and looks at her watch. She goes to Norman's room and, he's gone. She asks Dylan where he is. He says he's out with a girl. Norma is aghast. Dylan says he hopes he's getting laid and is sick of putting up with her crazy ass. Norma asks what he knows about what's going on between her and Norman. He says enough for him to be taken away. She slaps him and says no one is taking him away. Dylan says that girl is. She slaps at him more and they fight until she starts to cry and he briefly holds her. Then the doorbell rings. It's Romero and Shelby and other cops. They arrest her for the murder of Keith Summers.
