With filmmaker Dennis Dugan as emcee, Fox 11 TV anchor Christine Devine as a speaker and The Sound 100.3 FM as a media partner, the 19th annual Alive & Running Walk/Run for Suicide Prevention raised about $375,000 for Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services’ Suicide Prevention Center.
In memory of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, two popular musicians who recently died by suicide, The Village recording studios’ CEO, Jeff Greenberg, created a team to focus attention on suicide in the music industry. Didi Hirsch’s Board Chair Chris Harrer presented Greenberg and his team with the Inspiration Award.
“Artists by nature are very sensitive and creative… Like anybody experiencing difficulties or trauma, sometimes there are no warning signs,” said Greenberg, whose team raised over $10,000. “What Didi Hirsch is doing beautifully well is letting people know how to spot signs when a friend or colleague or someone they love is...

Music and Sex: Scenes from a life - A novel in progress (first chapter here).
As 1980 got going, Walter was distracted from Janie’s absence by progress on the band front. Garrick had found an electric guitarist, Tom O’Reilly. Though still lacking bass and drums, they decided to try putting together some new songs and practicing some covers -- because as TomO (as he styled himself) pointed out pragmatically, a good set of rockin’ covers would get them gigs at the frats that lined the south side of 114th St. Over a round of beers at the Marlin, a brightly lit bar that had less visual flair than a high school cafeteria, but the cheapest beer near campus, they decided to take turns suggesting covers.
Walter led off: "For Your Love." He liked it because of its harpsichord riff.
"Fuck that!" blurted TomO. "I was told we'd be covering Nuggets-type songs.

The Performer | Gillian Anderson
The Show | Hannibal
The Episode | “The Wrath of the Lamb” (August 29, 2015)
The Performance | Anderson’s performance as Hannibal‘s haughty-trippy Bedelia du Maurier has, for two seasons now, been a study in cool, calm and controlled — with undercurrents of wicked and sensual, and a top note of the slightly psychotic. In the show’s series finale, though, as Bedelia was confronted with the reality of her erstwhile patient/”husband” Dr. Lecter on the loose and preparing to have her for dinner, the actress seized her mere three-and-a-half minutes of screen time to paint an astonishingly visceral portrait of terror,...

If you ever thought Pearl Jam's "Footsteps" needed a banjo and a little taste of Soundgarden, well then Jimmy Fallon has got a treat for you.
Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell stopped by "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon's" Pearl Jam week to pay tribute to the song that initially appeared as a B-side to "Jeremy." Cornell brought in the requisite harmonica, along with Seth and Scott Avett of the Avett Brothers.
The trio gathered around closely on a Persian rug, Seth and Scott armed with an acoustic guitar and a banjo to give an intimate salute to the song that holds special meaning for Cornell.
In a backstage interview, Cornell describes his relationship to "Footsteps," the late Andrew Wood, and how the Temple of the Dog collaboration came about. Check it out below.
"Pear Jam's" new full-length, "Lighting Bolt" is in stores now, and Cornell is in the midst of a U.
