A good end to a mixed 12th series

Warning: Spoilers
When it doubt, have a wedding. That seems to be the strategy deployed by 'Call the Midwife' to wrap up what I'm sorry to say has been a rather middling series, with signs that maybe a change of pace is needed if the show is to stay on top form in the newly commissioned 13th and 14th series.

A certain rehashing of plots has become apparent, in some cases outright copies, with the constant threat of Nonnatus House being closed down (predictably it gets saved again here) proving wearying. Add in a very speedy recovery from a character who had previously been at death door and others being sent towards the exit door and it's all good fun. Personally now she's married I'd be very happy for Trixie to follow suit.

And yet, despite all this the show remains well-written, expertly performed and extremely watchable. It just needs to be a bit more original.

Too contrived for me
mfags17 June 2023
I have watched every episode but found the last episode of season 12, foolish, contrived and poorly thought out. The car accident scene, coupled with all the mishaps of peoples clothing was over the top and lost credibility. Talk about cramming a lot into the episode. Would have preferred more on the relationship of the newlyweds and skip the car accident and surgery on the street. It didn't add anything and was off putting to me. There are many ways to express feelings, this presentation was in my mind and my wife's; foolishness. Keep stories crisp and light at least occasionally. My 2 cents.
