Love it
debrarachelle14 October 2023
I love this. Is it perfect? No, but it is nice and it's just like the Love Inspired Suspense books I read. You get the best of both worlds. A movie that shows the Lord and a cozy murder mystery. I just love those books and always wished that there was a TV series or movie like them. I was so excited when I happened upon this. If you don't love the Lord it still has a good mystery to follow and if you do love the Lord all the better.

I am so thankful for writers who aren't ashamed of the Lord and actors willing to speak of the Lord.

Mysteries happen to Christians too and it's foolish to think that you can't solve a crime and be a Christian. Many police officers are Christians too in real life, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that there can be Christian true crime Podcasters.

Cozy Mystery Movie Without The Mystery
harris-934192 August 2023
I watched the entire movie because I liked the dynamics between the lead character and her friend who was a cop. A rerun of Murder She Wrote probably could offer more suspense. Which isn't saying much.

The acting overall wasn't compelling. I never felt her struggle with God was fairly acted out. For example, she seemed to always try to pray with a glass of red wine nearby. Not sure that is the right inspiration.

Her efforts to find the killer were pretty laughable and the red herrings were easy to spot. Overall this is no competition to the Hallmark mystery movies but I found it watchable nonetheless.

Some issues but great potential

Warning: Spoilers
I don't watch Hallmark as some other reviewers have mentioned or referenced. So I have nothing to compare it to as far as that. I'm judging this as just a movie.

Pros: -chemistry between the lead and the cop was decent -acting was watchable (but don't expect Gary Oldman or Viola Davis types of performance).

-for a faith-based movie this was a bit of a different concept (but still the same outline as others) -I was never bored and genuinely wanted the lead to solve the case.

Cons -some scenes the sound was a bit off -police protocol and mannerisms was off -there was very little effort or investment into making the mystery sharp and engaging as possible (like Columbo) -the confrontation and chase at the end was laughable and seemed rushed

Conclusion: 1-who is this for? If your interested in a light family friendly or even faith based movie on TV... this is for you. It's not Hercule Poirot or Sherlock (BBC) or even Encyclopedia Brown... but it was never trying to be. I still was entertained and felt it had some heart.

2-I think this movie actually has an opportunity to be a really good faith based mystery show. It has a different concept then most faith based films I've come across.

3-I would recommend the writer and director to really apply themselves to making a pilot that people would invest in. Some people make movies to make a buck, and others do it to tell stories that stay with you. Try to make a classic. The potential is there...

These young people did a fantastic job writing, directing, producing in addition to acting in this movie.

I thought this movie was very well done when I did the research and discovered that the main actress, Ansley Gordon, wrote the movie as well as being an Executive Producer. The woman who played Cami on the show was the Director, Brittany Goodwin. Then the male who was the detective, Bret Green, was an Executive Producer. I think this shows a tremendous accomplishment for these relatively young people with the potential for a successful future in this genre. I did see that Ansley Gordon has already accomplished a lot of writing as well as many other projects. I do hope they all plan to give us many years of family friendly movies, particularly mysteries.

I found refreshing the movie was built around God, family and friends. Because of that, we learn a lot about encouragement, loss, forgiveness, perseverance and peace. There are several Bible scriptures quoted throughout. So obviously this isn't for everyone, but for those of us of the Christian faith, it is appreciated. I hope there is another episode to see how it goes.

no competition to the Hallmark mystery movies
cozymoviefan2 August 2023
I was looking forward to seeing what kind of mystery GAC might offer because I do enjoy a nice cozy mystery, but I couldn't even follow the mystery plot in this movie. The plot was constantly interrupted by random discussions of religion between the main character Abby and well every other character. I guess this was an attempt to differentiate from Hallmark channel and appeal to the GAC base but goodness please first nail down the plot and develop the characters. Signed, Sealed, Delivered was a very successful mystery movie series with religious overtones that didn't have me cringing or reaching for the remote.

Fun and engaging mystery!
gonsteadgal25 September 2023
Great mystery for the whole family. My kids were catching the clues and it was fun trying to figure it out the motive and killer. We all had our suspicions and I love that we paused the movie a few times to rewind and review the clues. This included family discussions along with excitement in figuring out who the killer was. Nice story about relationships too, the past, love, greed and God. I appreciate not having to worry about anything inappropriate since I had my kids watching. It definitely gets you thinking. We want to see more family friendly movies like this. We saw it on Pureflix. Loved it!

Trite - Church Service
vintagegeek-974652 August 2023
Trite. Way Too much praying. Way too much Poppa. Too much sniffling. Best part was when she was whacked for snooping around. Guy hanging around outside again and again. Too obvious man was not related. Too obvious who evil person was too. Too many potted plants in the mix. No one actually looked in the coop. Mean old boss. Plot too slow. No follow up on obvious mystery elements. Convoluted. No intermittent resolutions of the clues. Belongs as part of Sunday morning Church Service. Praying they find new writers, directors and supporting cast. Everyone way to bland. Could have been good. But, too far off on every component.

Good Mystery
ab-8403826 April 2024
As far as I know, this is the first mystery for the new Great American Family Channel. There are some things I liked about it. And there were some things that kind of bothered me. Overall it was good. Pros are the story and the sense of community in the movie. My major con would be that it seemed like some clues were given and then dropped. The Main character put herself in kind of dangerous situations but seemed to keep that information to herself. The only other major con I have would be that during quiet conversations, the music is SUPER distracting and then dialogue is very hard to hear. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie though.

More Preaching Than Mystery
cat_woman_0111 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was not a great attempt to compete with Hallmark's mystery movies. The plot centered more around the female main character's crisis of faith than solving the suspicious death of her next door neighbor. I expect some religious overtones to the movies on this channel, but not at the expense of the main plot. The writers used bible verses as clues left behind by the victim, as if she sensed that she was going to be murdered, but they weren't really helpful in moving the plot forward. It wasn't until the last 15 minutes of the movie that enough other clues were identified to bring the story to a coherent conclusion. The acting by the whole cast was just mediocre, making this movie rather forgettable in every way.
