The first time we laid eyes on Krysten Ritter, we thought to ourselves, "That woman would be perfect in a Will Ferrell-produced NBC astronaut sitcom set in the 1960s that would be under-appreciated by the American public until it was far, far too late." And here we are today! According to Deadline, the Don't Trust The B- In Apt. 23 actress is set to star in Mission Control as the female lead. Ritter was also the lead in the pilot for the NBC comedy Assistance last season, in which she probably would have been brilliant.

Krysten Ritter, who toplined NBC’s comedy pilot Assistance last season, is back as the star of another NBC/Universal TV half-hour pilot. Ritter is finalizing a deal for Mission Control, from executive producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell and writer David Hornsby. Ritter also will serve as a producer on the project, a workplace ensemble is set in 1962 that examines what happens when a strong woman (Ritter) butts heads with a macho astronaut in the race to land on the moon. In addition to being pursued for pilots, this season Ritter also developed and sold projects under a first-look deal with Uni TV. Ritter, repped by Wme, The Group Entertainment, Sanders Armstrong Caserta and attorney Dave Feldman, recently appeared in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes and will next be seen in the Veronica Mars film, reprising her role from the series. Exclusive: NBC has put in development My Parents Are Too F**king Happy, a single-camera comedy from feature writer Heather Hach (Freaky Friday, What To Expect When You’re Expecting) and Krysten Ritter‘s Silent Machine Entertainment. Written by Hach and produced by Universal TV, the project is an irreverent comedy about three romantically inept siblings who have been emotionally traumatized by their parents’ blissfully perfect marriage. This marks the second sale for Silent Machine in its first development cycle under the first-look deal the company inked with Uni TV in February, in conjunction of Ritter’s casting in the NBC/Uni TV comedy pilot Assistance, which remains in contention. Silent Machine, which Ritter runs with Lindsey Liberatore, also has an NBC bowling comedy with writer Liz Vassey and Kapital Entertainment. Exclusive: NBC has closed deals for a comedy project from two actresses in writer-producer roles. The network has put in development a multi-camera comedy executive produced by Don’t Trust The B star Krysten Ritter and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and written by CSI alumna Liz Vassey through Universal TV. Based on an idea by Kaplan, the comedy revolves around a group of six friends who meet each Wednesday night for their weekly bowling league and centers on two of them — a couple, now broken up, who refuse to give up custody of their bowling league. Kaplan took the idea to Ritter, an avid bowling fan, who came on board as an executive producer. Vassey, who has developed with NBC and Uni TV in the past, was tapped to pen the script. She previously co-wrote an episode of CSI while she was a cast member on the veteran CBS crime drama.

This weekend, we learned that John Mulaney's sitcom pilot was not yet dead, as Fox was going to give it a shot. Well, that wasn't the only hotly anticipated NBC comedy pilot to get a second life: NBC has extended the cast options for the untitled Craig Robinson pilot. Executive produced by Greg Daniels and written by former Office writer Owen Ellickson, the show focuses on Robinson as a talented musician who becomes a middle school music teacher. Like the Krysten Ritter– and Alfred Molina–starring pilot Assistance, NBC has asked Ellickson and Daniels for three additional scripts. Good luck, guys.

Updated: Another NBC pilot that narrowly missed the cut to series is staying alive. I’ve learned that the network has extended the options on the entire cast of the untitled Craig Robinson pilot, which I hear also is getting an order for three additional scripts. The project, written by Owen Ellickson, centers around a talented musician (Robinson) who adjusts to his new life as a middle school music teacher, where he maneuvers precocious kids, teacher politics, and the temptations of single moms. The cast of the pilot, from Universal TV, Deedle-Dee Prods and 3 Arts, also includes Larenz Tate, Amanda Lund and Jean Smart. Ellickson is executive producing with Greg Daniels, Tracy Katsky, Gabe Miller and Jonathan Green, who helped rewrite the pilot script, Howard Klein and Mark Schulman. Robinson serves as producer. The Craig Robinson pilot joins fellow NBC/Uni TV comedy pilot Assistance, which recently received an order...

I hear NBC is keeping comedy pilot Assistance in contention with an order for three more scripts. Additionally, I hear producing studio Universal TV has extended the options on several cast members, including star Krysten Ritter and pilot standout Alfred Molina. Assistance, from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods, is based on the play by Leslye Headland, who wrote the adaptation. It centers on an idealistic “working girl” assistant (Ritter) who is pulled between her colleague (“work husband”) and her real-life fiance while trying to manage a demanding (translation: crazy) boss. In the onslaught of series pickups and passes over the past couple of days, it is hard to keep track of the pilots that have not been picked up to series, which are dead and which are still alive. It is still early to tell about CBS, which is not done yet picking up new series (pilots Backstrom and Friends With Better Lives are among a number which are still in contention). Additionally, CBS is shopping Beverly Hills Cop, which got a pass from CBS. And I hear the Jim Gaffigan comedy, which is not going for fall, will likely undergo reshoots. Here is a rundown of what pilots are still in contention (not for fall) at the other nets: ABC: Comedy Bad Management is still alive, and ABC is looking for a way to make it. Treating herself to an entertaining evening, Krysten Ritter showed up at the ArcLight Hollywood Theater last night (April 16).
The “Don’t Trust the B- in Apt 23” actress looked gorgeous in a denim jacket with a muted pink sweater, jeans, and pink leather boots as she headed inside to catch a screening of “42.”
Krysten has been hard at work on her brand new television show “Assistance,” also starring well-travelled actor Alfred Molina.
On the show, Ritter plays the executive assistant to a busy businessman, and it sounds like there’s a definite “Devil Wears Prada” vibe going on.

One of my favorite things to do when a show comes to a conclusion – whether natural or forced – is to track what happens to the stars afterward, seeing what jobs they might be interested in. With Private Practice over and done with, Kate Walsh has been getting plenty of pilot offers, which isn’t much of a surprise. What might surprise some of you is she’s getting more than enough comedy pilot offers. In fact, NBC is zeroing in on her as we speak for the lead role in its comedy pilot produced by none other than Will Ferrell via his and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods, as well as Anne Heche. Now, doesn’t that just seem like an unlikely combination of individuals?
It’s actually not that out of the ordinary when you pull back for a second and look at things from a different vantage point.

Alfred Molina may be returning to his comedy roots with a starring role opposite Krysten Ritter in the NBC single-camera comedy pilot Assistance, from Gary Sanchez Prods and Universal TV. Daniel is a very successful film producer with a large presence and thick intensity. Molina currently stars on David E. Kelley TNT drama series Monday Mornings, which has done poorly in the ratings and is not expected to go to a second season. Updated: I have learned that NBC is considering a pilot order to a comedy project produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods and actress Anne Heche. I hear the pickup, which will likely be off-cycle, may be hinging on the single-camera comedy landing former Private Practice star Kate Walsh for the lead. Written by Chad Kultgen (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone), Bad Judge is based on an idea brought to Gary Sanchez by Heche. It centers on a hard-living, sexually unapologetic woman — the role Walsh is being courted for — who plays with the law, and whose life on the edge is constantly in balance as she also happens to be a judge in the Criminal Court system. Universal TV, where Gary Sanchez has a deal, is producing. Heche and Jill Messick executive produce alongside Ferrell and McKay. Following the end of Private Practice in January after six seasons,...

It’s pilot season, which means your favorite out-of-work TV actors, actresses, creators and writers are getting a chance to return to the small screen once more.
Although we have yet to know what new series we’ll see next year, the networks have been busy selecting projects to consider for their schedules. So far, almost 100 scripts have been chosen, and audiences will only get to see a handful actually come to fruition.
Several are duds, but there are a few promising prospects that I hope network executives will keep around for the 2013-2014 season — even if it means they have to cancel old favorites to make room (just keep Parks and Recreation, Ok, NBC?).
