Well told Tale
ESSmith212112 May 2013
Captured Melody is a very touching tale about how one young girl's, Beth's, disappointment with her first true love turns into a learning experience for her. Early in the story, Beth's grandmother tells her a bedtime fairytale, but Beth doesn't like it because, unlike a Disney fairy tale, it doesn't have a happy ending. Little does Beth know that she is about to take part in the story and rewrite that ending herself. In doing so, Beth learns what true love really is and that a true happy ending is one that is earned, not just told in story form. Beth also learns that not all love stories have a happy ending because a true happy ending in a love story only occurs when one chooses the right person.

The touching story of Captured Melody is enhanced by the beautiful camera work. The film was shot for both 2D and 3D viewing on the Panasonic Z10000 in Stereo 3D. The effort has paid off. Unlike many student films, the camera work in this one does not distract from an otherwise beautiful story, and that makes Captured Melody a much better film than many.

Good job overall.

Charming Fable
playerpage12 April 2013
Captured Melody is a classic coming of age story and, given its budget, a technological marvel. The story of a young girl experiencing her first heartbreak and the strength she gains from the lesson in love would be enjoyable on its own, but it is wrapped around, and weaved into, the plight of a fairy princess in this charming children's drama. Beth learns there is more to herself than she ever dreamed, and in discovering that heroine inside, she saves the princess, her pride, and the day. If you have a little girl in your life--or are a little girl at heart--I recommend this story!

The use of 3D in a student film makes for a bold experiment--I don't think I have ever seen one done on the student level--but the experiment is one that the filmmakers have undertaken with remarkable ingenuity and skill. It is not a perfect film, but it is an interesting one, and capturing the imagination is the true goal of every storyteller.

The short tale is a welcome addition to its overall genre.
