Not the most interesting episode until the very end where Nova straight up becomes a demon! It terrified me when I was younger and was shocking to re-watch, you don't expect scooby doo to do something like that

This episode features everyone's famous fictional female band, and a undead band with one very catchy song. I do think the Hex Girls were a little underused in this episode but oh well. They're bound to appear again sooner or later.

'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' "Dance of the Undead" (2013)
Opening thoughts: "Dance of the Undead" was another one of the very good 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' episodes, with the second season being full of them. Prior to seeing it for the first time when it first aired, it was hard to not be psyched. Having been a fan of the Hex Girls ever since their first appearance in one of my favourite Scooby Doo films 'Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost' (second favourite actually after 'Zombie Island') and considering them one of the franchise's best recurring characters.
On all my subsequent rewatches, "Dance of the Undead" still is very good. While liking very much the previous 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' episode featuring the Hex Girls "In Fear of the Phantom", for me this is the superior episode because of the far better villains, an even darker atmosphere and that the Hex Girls contribute more to the mystery. It is not perfect, with the final quarter not being as strong as the rest of the episode, but there is a huge amount to like about "Dance of the Undead".
Good things: First and foremost, the animation is still colourful and atmospheric with a well balanced mix of old and new. The music also fits the darker, more mysterious tone of the show very well, and The Hex Girls' contribution is catchy. Actually think this is one of the best scored episodes with the villains' music standing out a lot, jazz has seldom been more eerie. Have always liked the spy thriller/haunted house vibe the theme tune has. The Hex Girls are truly delightful and their strong personalities haven't been watered down. Also love that they contribute more to the mystery solving, though more screen time would have been more welcome.
The voice acting is excellent from all and can't fault the gang's character writing and interaction. All have come on a long way in development and personality. Absolutely loved the villains here, very scary and imaginative with one of the best scenes being the creepy opening. The franchise has a good track record with their music centered episodes, with a few exceptions, and it is used very atmospherically here. The writing is intelligent and never feels muddled tonally. The mystery is fun and creepy as ought.
Bad things: As said though, the final quarter isn't as strong. The episode does run out of gas in the last quarter, which was not just predictable, guessed the identities quite early on with not many suspects, but also rather bland because the memorability factor is not very strong and the plan and motive very ordinary.
Concluding thoughts: In conclusion, very good.
