Every episode ceaselessly makes all other anime feel inferior.
It's been about a month and a half since Vinland dropped anything less than a 9/10 in my eyes. And it show no sign of stopping.

This episode is composed perfectly. It starts with rage, then to upset and calm, then to rage once more, and by the end we see something building for the next episode. The episode came back to the same words we've heard before in past episodes, and it continued the one theme of calm in both seasons. That message is one echoed in every part of the story. And this is why we love the show, because every episode links.

The next episode I'd predict exceeds even this, and this episode made me cry a lot again. As a dude, I would never have felt comfortable to admit that, but this show reminds us we're human, we have pain, and we have no enemies. We learn to grow and endure, but express our words along with the characters.

The music and use of pathetic fallacy in this episode really enhanced the composition and impact once again. Anime has that over manga and those details are crucial to any good adaptation of a show. And Vinland Saga today showed why it's a great adaptation.

We're seeing something build in long and short term and yet the present is great too. Yukimura's story planning is probably one of the best things here. It's not all over the place, it's streamlined, and unlike high energy shonen, it progresses at the pace it needs to.

Overall, this episode once more was basically without significant flaws. I feel like we neglect just how difficult it is to map these episodes out, and yet MAPPA's employees make it seem so easy. It's not easy being perfect.

Einar and Thorfinn seem very real, and next episode, we'll no doubt be seeing Thorfinn in the most detail since S1, and probably an interaction between him and Canute (which everyone should've seen coming.) Watch the show, and learn from it.

The title of the episode says it all..., Pain!

Warning: Spoilers
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 20: "Pain"

The emotional damage of this episode with Arnheid's last words, Einar's confession, and Thorfinn's words to Arnheid was powerful...., simply powerful, next level storytelling, so happy Mappa committed to the atmosphere. The music and voice acting..., just on point.

Painland saga man... RIP Arnheid! She deserved much better, but now she can be with the ones she loves!

I have nothing much to say except quote Thorfinn's words towards Einar:

"Einar, killing the master won't quell your rage. Anger begets more anger. It just results in deaths, one after another. I was stuck in that hell for a long time. Please, Einar. Don't fall under the same curse that afflicted me." - Thorfinn my man, I am proud of you my dude. Your character development is amazing!

There goes Thorfinn to confront Canute. We're in for an epic conclusion, I'm ready!

Nothing but Pain

Warning: Spoilers
After Gardar you'd think Vinland Saga would let their foot off the gas pedal, but that wasn't the case. Somehow the show reached an even darker level. Arnheid's final moments with Einar were devastating to watch considering the life she had to live up until that point. But to be optimistic, she's in a much better place now. Einar sadly has lost someone else he loved dearly but hopefully he can look to the future now as he and Thorfinn have another chip on their soldier to end violence and reach Vinland.

It was also great to see Snake offer help after what happened to Arnheid. The fact that he encountered them and the first thing he said was "why are you still here" showed that he's not some soulless man and has a sense of humility.

But Thorfinn is going to have a much wanted reunion with Canute it seems and I'm extremely excited to see what that'll look like considering Floki will be there. I'm terrified that Thorfinn will learn what Floki did by putting a hit out on Thors and that could potentially make him spiral, but who knows at this point.

Thorgil made it out alive it seems and as Canute does, he sees everything as an asset so he might try to get Thogil back on his side. And regarding Ketil I have no clue where this battle leaves him but I think when he awakes he will no longer be Iron Fist and will have a rude awakening to the events that transpired in the last couple of episodes.

But with 4 episodes to go season 2 of Vinland Saga still has a lot more left in the tank and I'm looking forward to what happens next as there's still some things left unsettled.

Beginning of something huge
yodhyekananta23 May 2023
Amazing episode, probably one of the best episode so far. Unpredicted actions from Thorgil and Canute, Snake's display of swordmanship that matches the Jomskivings, but most of all, we finally can see what the title "Vinland" means - escaping to a distant land, far from war and slavery. The closing scene also shows Thorfinn walking calmly to find Canute, with new determination that will bring the entire story to something new and huge. We will finally be able to see the direction of Thorfinn's character development.

Truly recommend everyone to watch this episode and to keep following the upcoming episodes, this series has not been disappointing so far.

Emotions can cause pain!
and_mikkelsen26 May 2023
This episode was an emotional experience like no other! I almost felt uncomfortable as I was overwhelmed with sadness! This episode was PAIN.. both physically and mentally!

This episode had it all! Great qction, violence, graphic imagery and sadness beyond belief! I was left breathless at times but then the tears started flowing as I realized where things were going! The soundtrack and VA's were phenomenal at creating this tearfull scene! You could feel the pain in their words!

The character of Arnheid was tragic and shows the other side of this world! In a way she captures the meaning of Vinland! She was caught in war of slavery and just needed a peacefull paradise! Its all about breaking the cycle of hamrede, revenge and violence!

What a rollercoaster of emotions!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode has all the features we loved season one for and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The war at Ketil's farm has kicked off and is far from over. Thorgill attempts to re-enact his well thought plan while the Royal guard steps in to protect King Canute. Arnheid is on her way to be reunited with her family, but not without saying good bye to her dear friend Thorfinn and Einar. She is at peace with her children and Gardar waiting for her as she gets a beautiful send-off from Thorfinn. After numerous attempts to revive her they finally let her go on her journey towards freedom. Freedom of pain.

Thorfinn, Son of Thors
lehgo22 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing missing from this episode would have been a brief second where as Thorfinn walked away from Leif, the silhouette of Thorfinn blinked into the silhouette of Thors. Because that's what I saw.

I'm sure there is more to be unpacked in the remaining episodes, but to see how they have very slowly and carefully unraveled Thorfinn's character from one who appeared as a nihilistic, guilt ridden, doubtful shell of a man into who he is now has been incredible.

He first had to decide he wasn't going to be that character we met. Then he had to decide what he was going to do with his life. Then he made the decision he was going to do it. Now he's being met with a constant stream of decisions where he has to truly choose between the man he was and the man he wants to become.

That's what I love. Every time Thorfinn has acted out of character from the nihilistic guy we were introduced to, even he was surprised. As if it was coming from somewhere he wasn't sure of, but it was just there. Deep deep within.

Now, to see him boldly decide exactly what he will do in going to speak with Canute... it's doesn't seem uncharacteristic at all, because we are now seeing who he really is. This is who Thorfinn is meant to become. A true warrior. The son of Thors.

Masterclass
jordanballi24 May 2023
This show is amazing my god the voice acting is top notch especially from Einar and Thorfinn not to mention the smooth very fluid animation but what's really insane about this episode above all is the damn. Writing. I can't express this enough how beautifully this show is written and how Thorfinn is on his way to becoming the best main character in any medium, period; my opinion of course. I just feel i've never seen such great character acting paired with some of the best writing and character development i've ever seen in anything really, i would also like to point out Einar this episode was incredible and i could honestly say i shed a tear this episode no thanks to him..

best episode of the series and maybe the best episode all year.

Out of words! This is just awesome! Words can't describe it! I felt the pain. This was truly devastating! Why this had to happen! I cried and this ep will always make me cry! My tears are still in my eyes while writing this! OMG.... What a fantastic ep! The pacing makes us hey connected to the characters very deeply and that's why this effected is this much!! Vinland saga is over of the top tier series!! This is literally a must watch for everyone! Well the only exceptions are with kids taste...... Cause I too was bored in the first season cause my taste was childish but right now I'm shocked that how much the second season has impacted me!!
