- Foyle's investigation into the death of a nameless Russian leads to a mysterious military facility and the discovery that the victim was a spy with dangerous connections to British intelligence.
- Foyle's new boss, Sir Alec Meyerson, asks him to investigate the deaths of three Russian defectors, who were all in supposedly safe houses. Then another dying Russian collapses in a hospital; his last words apparently being 'Ten Eye' and Doctor Ross, who tried to save him, is murdered after asking Foyle to meet him. In looking into the doctor's death, Foyle discovers the significance of 'Ten Eye' at a secretive military establishment which eaves-drops on Russian transmissions and decodes them for the West. At the same time, the disappearance of one of Adam's constituents seems to be linked with the defection of a woman with the same name, who was the safe houses' liaison officer. As Foyle discovers who really betrayed the Russians and killed the doctor for knowing too much, Sam helps Adam to political success.—don @ minifie-1
- The new head of MI5, Sir Alec Meyerson, arrives only to learn that three Russian defectors - all living in MI5 safe-houses - have been murdered. Foyle is tasked with finding the leak but part of that mystery is solved rather quickly as Evelyne Greene, a Foreign Office employee who acted as a liaison with defectors, has vanished and now turned up in the Russian sector of Berlin. What isn't so clear is the Russian refugee who showed up at a hospital with apparent self-inflicted injuries. Soon after his death the doctor who treated him, Ian Ross, is also found dead. Foyle takes an interest in a secret military establishment near the hospital, ostensibly a communications establishment intercepting Russian signals. Meanwhile, Adam Wainwright is running in a byelection as a Labour candidate and comes across a prospective constituent whose daughter has gone missing but can't seem to get the police to investigate. Her name is also Evelyne Greene. To solve the case Foyle has two questions: who tipped off the first Evelyne Greene to run and where is the second woman with the same name.—garykmcd
