A24 has nabbed U.S. rights to “The Death of Robin Hood,” one of the hottest packages at this year’s Cannes. The Sherwood Forest-set film stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer and is directed by Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind the critically acclaimed “Pig” and this summer’s “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
According to the official logline, the film will find Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Instead of the merry outlaw seen in certain previous versions of the story, like the one portrayed by Errol Flynn, this Robin Hood is “a battle-worn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.” Production on “The Death of Robin Hood” is set to begin in 2025. A24 will release the film theatrically. Negotiations were highly competitive with several potential buyers circling the film.

If you could become a TV or film character – either one you’ve played or not – for a week, who would you be? Doartpho
At the moment, I’d like to be Mary Poppins, because she’s incredibly efficient and I need to tidy my apartment. Being her for a week would help me out massively. I’d like to see what Chloe Gemell from My Mad Fat Diary is doing. I wonder where she is now, what she’s up to? She’s very innocent, which I enjoyed.
How would your most famous roles have differed had you chosen to play them with your natural Liverpudlian accent? TopTramp
They probably would have differed quite a lot, although I feel Villanelle [from Killing Eve] would suit being a scouser.

Actress Jodie Comer spent hours in freezing water and mired in studies on pregnancy for her latest tough role. The actress portrays a terrified new mum called only “Mother” in the upcoming apocalyptic climate change drama ‘The End We Start From’, who is desperately trying to keep her baby Zeb safe when she is forced to flee her London home amid disastrous flooding.
Its director Mahalia Belo said Comer, who doesn’t have any children, was happy to embrace the gruelling shoot, which involved braving sub-zero waters near Lochgilphead, in Argyll and Bute, reports aceshowbiz.com.
The filmmaker was quoted by the Sunday Mirror as saying: “It was freezing. We spoke to Jodie and she wanted to do it.”
“She’s a believer in truth and felt this is what the character would do. It was so beautiful and she just went for it,” the director additionally gushed over the actress.

The 76th Annual Tony Awards — which was nearly canceled outright because of the writers’ strike — went ahead on June 11. All the work to come to agreement with the WGA on the unscripted ceremony was worth it. It was a ratings bonanza for CBS and a notable lift to ticket sales for the winners, newly reported numbers show.
For many shows, the publicity from Broadway’s biggest night can mean the difference between keeping the curtain up and posting a closing notice. A Tony nomination typically only has a nominal impact on sales, whereas, depending on the show’s category, a win can be a game changer, said Hunter Arnold, a co-producer on multiple productions this season including “Some Like It Hot,” “Leopoldstadt,” “Life of Pi,” and “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical.”

Several Tony Award-winning shows, and even those that simply performed, saw a bump from the June 11 awards ceremony.
Among them, the Tom Stoppard play Leopoldstadt, which took home the Tony Award for best play, among others, saw a close to $300,000 increase in the week ended June 18 over the prior week. The play saw its capacity jump 21 percent to reach 84 percent and grossed $924,033, reaching numbers it has not seen since the early weeks of its run, which began in September 2022.
The play, which follows generations of a Jewish family living in Vienna, is also set to close on July 2, which may have created greater urgency in the ticket buying.
Kimberly Akimbo, which won five Tony Awards including best musical, saw an increase of about $170,000 in its grosses over the prior week (though it played eight performances in the week ended June 18 and seven in the previous week). Still the musical, a...

The Broadway production of Prima Facie has recouped its $4.1 million capitalization costs as of June 18 and broke a house box office record on the way.
The one-woman play, starring Jodie Comer, recouped its Broadway capitalization in 10 weeks of performances — a quick turnaround for any production — and grossed $1,107,829 last week, a record for any eight-show week at the Golden Theatre. This beat the previous box office record at the Golden Theatre held by Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women, starring Glenda Jackson and Laurie Metcalf, which grossed $1,077,919 in the week ending June 17, 2018.
Prima Facie began performances on April 11 and runs through July 2. The production has grossed close to $1 million for several weeks of its run, with an average ticket price hovering around $150 and capacity close to 100 percent.
The recoupment comes a week after Comer won the Tony Award for best lead actress in a play. In Prima Facie, written by Suzie Miller...

Out of all the winners (and also-rans) in the 26 competitive categories at the 2023 Tony Awards, 34 results stand out as particularly noteworthy when considered in the context of history. So what were this year’s most interesting facts, records, and milestones? Check out the complete list of winners here.
1. The productions that received multiple Tony nominations, but went home empty-handed were “& Juliet,” “Ain’t No Mo’,” “Between Riverside and Crazy” “Camelot,” “A Christmas Carol,” “Cost of Living,” “Death of a Salesman,” “A Doll’s House,” “Fat Ham,” “Into the Woods,” “Kpop,” and “The Piano Lesson.”
2. This year marked the first time a Broadway production of “Into the Woods” didn’t win a single Tony. The original won three awards in 1987 for Best Lead Actress in a Musical (Joanna Gleason), Best Book of a Musical (James Lapine), and Best Original Score (Stephen Sondheim). A show about a 16-year-old girl with an affliction that causes her to age four times as fast as normal? Or about a Jewish family in the decades leading up to the Holocaust? Or about antisemitism in early 1900s Georgia?
Those are the loglines of three of the four shows that were awarded top prizes at Sunday night’s 76th Tony Awards — best musical winner Kimberly Akimbo, best play winner Leopoldstadt and best musical revival winner Parade, respectively. (The fourth, best play revival winner Topdog/Underdog, closed back in January.)
Needless to say, they aren’t exactly easy sells on paper, and haven’t proven to be blockbusters on Broadway. But voters strongly embraced them anyway — not only as a way of celebrating acclaimed work, but also, one can reasonably assume, as a way of putting a little wind behind their sails (and sales) by providing some eye-catching material for their marquees and advertisements.

The 2023 Tony Awards just honored a fresh group of incredible talents. Trophies were handed out at the United Palace Theater in NYC on June 11. This year's big winners include "Killing Eve" star Jodie Comer for her role in "Prima Facie," the play "Leopoldstadt," and the musical "Kimberly Akimbo."
"Shucked" star Alex Newell and "Some Like It Hot" star J. Harrison Ghee also made history as they became the award show's first openly nonbinary acting winners. The Tony Awards do not have gender-neutral acting categories. Newell, an alum of "The Glee Project," took home the award for featured actor in a musical. Ghee also won in their category, best actor in a musical.
The annual theater award ceremony was hosted by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, who is emceeing without a script amid the 2023 writers strike.
Ahead, these are the 2023 Tony winners.

Broadway box office overall held steady last week, even as the recent Tony Award nominations already seemed to lose some of their power to boost ticket sales. Some shows with nominations saw declines at the box office, from Good Night, Oscar and Some Like It Hot to Leopoldstadt and New York, New York.
For the most part, the box office slips were small, though grosses for Good Night, Oscar, starring Sean Hayes, were down about 24% from the previous week, with a gross of $550,970 and attendance at just 59% of capacity at the Belasco.
With the much-discussed Tony Awards set for June 11, winning productions will be better poised to see some trophy-related box office mojo throughout the summer months.
Overall, the 34 Broadway productions grossed $33,088,397 for the first week of the 2023-24 season,...

According to our current combined predictions, Jodie Comer (“Prima Facie”) is the frontrunner to win Best Actress in a Play at this year’s Tony Awards with 12/5 odds. She already won an Olivier a couple of months ago for her work in the West End production. She would be the fifth Tony winner in this category for a one-woman performance.
In Suzie Miller‘s one-woman show, Comer plays Tessa, a barrister from working-class origins who must deal with an unexpected event that forces her to confront the patriarchal power and morality of the law.
When it comes to solo performances at the Tonys, four have prevailed in this category before. In 1977 Julie Harris won her fifth and final competitive accolade for her portrayal of Emily Dickinson in William Luce‘s “The Belle of Amherst.” In 1986 Lily Tomlin won for playing multiple characters in Jane Wagner‘s “The Search for Signs...
