The Epic of Detective Mandy: Book One - Satan Claus (TV Movie 1989)
The Epic of Detective Mandy: Book Two - Spoof of the Living Dead (TV Movie 1991)
Lethal Weapon 3 (1992)
There is a running gag where Detective Mandy and Detective Dave receive parking tickets, but joke about them and hide them in the glove compartment, in a nod the the same gag by Riggs and Murtaugh throughout Lethal Weapon 3 (1992).
The Gold Rush (1925)
The opening scene, where Detective Dave searches for and finds Detective Mandy, is done as a silent film, in sepia tone with old time piano music over it and intertitle cards revealing the dialogue, in a parody of Chaplin's The Gold Rush (1925).- Detective Mandy's outfit when he leaves to seek communication with his dead brother is identical to the outfit worn by Inspector Clouseau.
- Numerous parodies of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), including using a similar opening credits scroll against a star field with the Star Wars theme, Detective Dave wandering through the sand and wind like Luke Skywalker walking through the snow on Hoth, Detective Randy appearing to Mandy as a ghostly vision like Obi-wan Kenobi does with Luke Skywalker, Mandy losing his hair in the final conflict instead of his hand and Mandy yelling, "Nooooooo!!!" when Satan Claus magically makes himself disappear, just as Luke does when he learns Darth Vader is his father.
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
The Satan Claus killer murdering people in his Santa suit is a parody of Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984). The scene where the English Thespian runs to the top of the stair and Satan Claus runs out from behind a pole is done as a spoof of the scene where the killer in Silent Night, Deadly Night runs out from behind a tree and kills a sledder.UHF (1989)
Once again, as in the other episodes of the Detective Mandy saga, the homeless character begs for a quarter like the homeless character in UHF (1989).
