Some us hadn't even seen Pitch Perfect but we somehow knew that this song was a banger. Fresh out of the twilight shadow, we were just to learn what Anna Kendrick could do.

It is obvious that Anna Kendrick is not an outstanding singer, but this little song fir her voice very nicely and after all, she is a trained actress (and Oscar nominee) and not a singer. I was not impressed by the movie "Pitch Perfect" at all, so I would even say that this short film alone is better than the entire film. Both were directed by filmmaker Jason Moore and he also wrote these 4 minutes here. However, he did not return for the sequel which was made by Elizabeth Banks. "When I'm Gone" has Kendrick working at the kitchen of a restaurant and later also bringing meals to the guests. The singing is good, the melody noises with the dishes add nicely to the song as well, even if they initially seem a bit ridiculous. But everybody joins in with Kendrick and it's especially the non-perfection in her voice which makes this a decent watch and equally good listen. Recommended. I think the single was also a pretty big hit.
