The title comes from the lyrics of the song "Changes" by David Bowie, which feature the famous stutter during the refrain (e.g., "Ch-ch-Changes / Oh, look out, you rock 'n rollers...").
The defendants name is Billy Flynn, the same name as the "hotshot" lawyer in Chicago (2002). The musical about Billy Flynn trying to get his clients off of death row for the murders of their lovers, the same situation as the character in this episode finds himself in. They are both set in Chicago.
