- Danny Hillier: [Walking to the elevator] I'm off for a drink.
- Jonno: Oh, I can't tonight, mate. Sorry.
- Danny Hillier: Don't panic, mate. I'm telling you, not inviting you.
- Elise Wassermann: [Karl presses building buzzer] Yes?
- Karl Roebuck: Karl.
- Elise Wassermann: Who?
- Karl Roebuck: Karl! Sensitive Karl. The sporty intellectual.
- Karl Roebuck: [Elise and Karl are in the car. Elise is driving] You can't do that.
- Elise Wassermann: Do what?
- Karl Roebuck: Whatever it was you were doing together. What was it you were doing together?
- [Elise looks at him, bewildered]
- Karl Roebuck: Don't answer that.
- Elise Wassermann: What are you trying to ask me?
- Karl Roebuck: Did you have sex with my son?
- Elise Wassermann: [Looking at Karl, perplexed] He's eighteen.
- Karl Roebuck: I know!
- Elise Wassermann: He's entitled to a private life.
- Karl Roebuck: That's the sort of thing that people who don't have kids say.
- [pauses]
- Karl Roebuck: He's entitled to try and keep things from his parents is what he's entitled to do, and on this occasion he didn't manage it.
- [Louder]
- Karl Roebuck: Did you have sex with my son?
- Elise Wassermann: Am *I* entitled to a private life?
- Karl Roebuck: [Louder still] Did you have sex with my son?
- Elise Wassermann: [Looks at him for three seconds with kindness before answering] No.
- Karl Roebuck: [Looks relieved. Pauses, then speaks softly] Right.
- Elise Wassermann: I need everything you found on Mehdi Cherfi.
- Cécile Cabrillac: He died last year.
- Elise Wassermann: And?
- Cécile Cabrillac: You asked for details of the French youths on the list.
- Elise Wassermann: Correct.
- Cécile Cabrillac: I thought you meant the ones that were alive.
- Elise Wassermann: [Elise looks coldly at Cécile] Why?
- [Cécile looks down, embarrassed, since the conversation is taking place before both the French and British investigative teams]
- Elise Wassermann: All you need to do is your job. Your assumptions waste time.
- Adam Roebuck: So how's it going with Elise?
- Karl Roebuck: [Standing, with one foot on a chair, tying his shoe, and his mouth full of breakfast bread and butter] How is what going with Elise?
- Adam Roebuck: Working together.
- Karl Roebuck: Working fine together.
- [Adam gives Karl a cup of coffee, Karl looks at him slightly surprised, and takes a sip]
- Karl Roebuck: Mmm. Ta.
- Adam Roebuck: Is she single?
- Karl Roebuck: [Scoffs] Tell me you're joking.
- Adam Roebuck: Well, she's nearer my age than yours.
- Karl Roebuck: I'm not asking if she's single.
- [pauses]
- Karl Roebuck: . I'll tell you what, I'm seeing her in a minute. I'll tell her she's got an admirer.
- [Looks at Adam]
- Karl Roebuck: Tidy your room.
