Interesting story, could have been better...

Warning: Spoilers
O.k. so I have been going thru alot of independent gay movies, I have come to expect sub par acting but, a good story can make it worth watching. 2 things I did not like in this movie was the actor playing the preacher and did I miss something, they didn't show how the kid got out of jail, it's like he's in jail and the he's on a boat playing with his band..... I know it's just a movie but I am left confused on some things. Worth watching once, not sure if I would watch it again.

Impossible to Watch
dbkdances20 February 2015
I found this earnest effort difficult to sit trough. The pacing, the amateurish performances, the clichés, all made me want to go watch something else. The direction was tedious and the acting was on a level with high school drama. The father, in particular, was a cartoon depiction of a fundamentalist Christian. I only gave it a three because it contained one scene in an acting class where Matthew Shepard is portrayed in what seems to be purgatory and that scene was touching. The rest of it was painful to behold, and not in a good way.

If you want to watch an excellent movie that explores the conflict of religion and coming out, watch "Prayers for Bobby."

moronic, talentless, insulting garbage
jm1070121 March 2015
It's not just the acting - nothing about this movie is good or even bearable. The story is stupid, all the characters are shallow and completely unrealistic, every word they say sounds like it was written by an emotionally stunted 11-year-old girl who has never read anything except Facebook, and there is not a single real actor anywhere, just people with no talent or skill repeating stupid lines some moron told them to say loud so everybody can hear them.

This movie so distorts and caricatures the conflict between fundamentalist Christians and gay men that it insults everybody on both sides and makes a serious problem seem ridiculous.

People wail about the lack of good gay movies, and if this is the kind of crap they watch I can understand why. There are hundreds of gay movies FAR better than this one. This is the worst of the worst.

Terrible, the worst Gay film ever!
gjones0123 May 2015
I rented this movie tonight on iTunes and within minutes recognized that it was shot in Upstate New York where I live. Not minutes later I realized I knew several of the actors; I'm ashamed that I know them as this is the worst Gay movie I've ever watched. All copies should be burned and the actors sent to work at Starbucks for life! The plot is thin, the acting contrived and terrible, the photography looks lake a Taco's ad - what can I say, save your money and time and rent Brokeback Mountain and enjoy a real Gay film. Too bad producers can't find decent actors in Upstate New York as I know we've produced a decent number. Perhaps someone can tell me I'm wrong a let me know what they see in this terribly produced video!

The LGBT Birdemic
johnnylongtorso-600-85852926 November 2016
The basic plot of this film, such as it is, involves two young men (high school students? college students? like most everything else, it is not made clear) who are in love; one of them is the son of a local preacher, who grows increasingly unhinged over the prospect of his son being gay. Meanwhile, there is a seemingly unrelated plot involving a cruise line putting together a gay-themed cruise on the Erie Canal.

This movie is a completely disjointed mess. It jumps from scene to scene with no rhyme or reason; characters aren't introduced so much as they just show up. One scene in the movie has two Asian break dancers auditioning for... something? And they are never seen again. Acting is local community theater quality, as you would expect. And the ending, without giving away plot details, seems like it was shot to be a promotion for the Upstate New York Tourism Board or something.

Dropped in the middle of the movie, causing it to grind to a screeching halt, is a ten minute "play" about Matthew Shepard and Tyler Clementi. This is cited as a high point of the movie by others, but it's incredibly portentous, overly long, and doesn't fit in with the rest of the story (as much as anything else fits in to the story at least).

Also, there are too many characters in the movie to keep track of, especially since so many of them are so one-dimensional and either disappear from the narrative after one or two scenes or completely change their one character trait. Robert Altman this ain't.

I'm giving this two stars because there is at least a decent acoustic cover of "Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money towards the beginning. Otherwise, this is just a complete mess of a film and should not be watched without copious amounts of alcohol and snark.

Worst movie ever made
sydneyblue-1244223 December 2020
Was this movie produced via a high school project? What a disgrace. Must have been produced on a $50 budget. My 6 year old brother can write, film and produce a better home video. And that's saying something about this vomit film.

Dang!
ricramey200010 June 2020
This film was pretty bad. The music to the acting needed much more attention. The director needed to spend more time with the scrip in addition to more time with the auditions. Don't worry about this one. Make the next film better. That's how we learn. Good luck to you. 👍

Good but confusing.
owen-1909922 July 2017
I thought it was a thought provoking and emotional film in places. I found some bits difficult to follow; normally when a film (movie) changes time or theme there is some sort of warning but there wasn't in this one. I warmed to the two main characters; I thought they played their roles very well.

not worth your time

Not only was this whole movie totally exaggerated, it was painfully unrealistic. Throughout the movie, characters are constantly contradicting themselves and make it out that whites are superior to everyone else( not that people don't still think that in certain circles). I would give this film a 1, save for Logan, who was the only one actually 'acting in this film'. Only saw it because it was on my 'to watch' on Pinterest. I genuinely have so many issues with this movie, that if I wrote them all down, this would be a two page essay describing my utter disappointment

Interesting movie
tmn-836132 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I did not give the highest rating for this movie, since its attempt to represent reality was less successful (it tried too hard to create a negative political message and failed, unfortunately). Other than attempting to add too many scenes distorting the reality, the movie did a great job in portraying a micro-culture in America and therefore, in my opinion, deserves a higher rating.

In terms of its cinematographic value, the movie captured important historical elements from America's recent history and was successful in fairly presenting socio-cultural attitudes and divisions that exist in America today.

Worst garbage I've ever watched
rickgar9 May 2021
This is worst, most disjointed mish mosh I have ever seen. Every time when the storyline begins to get interesting and you think there may hope for this film it takes off on some tangent unrelated to the story.

Just when you think the acting cannot get any worse, it does. Everything about this film is terrible. It should be banned.

Why I should read reviews first!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was 112 minute PSA (Public Service Announcement) for Logo . This was a story with good intentions. It tried to wrap a story around two tragic incidents. I don't know exactly what the story was about to be honest. There were some scenes that seriously had no point at all. IO have tried hard to find something about this movie to recommend it. I can say the locations were beautiful. This is a movie to definitely put on the pile that you donate to the Public Library.

Dire

Warning: Spoilers
Appallingly bad film with mad reverend on the rampage to save his sinful gay son's soul. This sub plot sits awkwardly alongside the teen romance and other unbelievable plot strands. Terrible acting. Back to drama school for most of the cast.

Possibly the worst movie ever made
dominicvandv13 September 2021
I thought I'd seen some bad movies in my time until I watched this. It's hard to tell if it's meant I be serious as it's so bad in places it's almost funny. Can't believe I actually watched it until the end.

Very little to praise
skgardarklighter31 May 2020
While there are some well-intended themes in this movie, it is bogged down by far too many incohesive ideas and an odd, and often confusing, sense of time and pacing. There are many scenes that seem out of place, coming from a script that plays out more like a talent show, rather than focusing on the plot or any character development. Unfortunately this film suffers from too many wayward moments, a surprising lack of judgement when casting certain secondary talent and an editor that clearly doesn't understand scene transitions and that less is definitely more.

This was impossible to watch. A terrible film.
alexanderbereson6 October 2023
This had to be someone's elementary school project. There is no other explanation for this disjointed talentless mess. No redeeming value in the script, the acting or the music. 100% dreadful. I can only hope that the script writer, the film editor and all the actors were on drugs so at least there is some excuse for this abomination. The Godzilla movies were serious art compared to this POS. Entire segments of this film like the Matthew Shephard and Asian breakdancers sequences had no discernible relationship to the film. The scene transitions were nonsensical. Probably the worst film I ever suffered through.

not so bad
Kirpianuscus17 April 2022
Nice intentions, near good looking actors, near clash of religion against love and parents acceptance of the sexual life of their kids are, basically , the best things of this modest film. Not the last, the songs. A film about a sentimental relation, too long, improvised, at first sight, in so large measure than you ignore the details becoming to soon insignificant. And, not the last, an ovious pledge, too thin , for tolerance.

Theater can help in some measure , like a specific scene, the cruise images are useful , to.

But, sure, the effort of

But the message seems a huge stone .

Short, nice if you see it with serious indulgence. Tyler Spencer andJesse Navagh to propose decent couple is a very good point. In essence, a simple Disney film for teens , sure, with few different nuances.
