So as Jenna continues this rebellious phase, apparently a intervention is due. Now, why wasn't this done an episode or two ago I'm unsure of, but with Valerie being the one who came up with the idea, and she is always late to figure things out, it makes sense in the long run. However, being that Jenna is trying to exert her independence, despite having no job and seemingly no plans for the future, she doesn't want to hear anything anyone has to say. Of course though, this badly planned intervention has all the people who have never really been the best to Jenna.
First you have Aunt Ally, who has rarely ever had a kind word for Jenna; then Sadie who has the same issue; Lacey who wrote the letter which is part of what started all of Jenna's issues; then Valerie who is an adult but age, but we aren't given any type of info which implies that she is quirky and can handle her own business. So, this is the interventionist and it leads you to wonder where are Jenna's actual friends, or former friends, who would be better for this?
That situation aside, something that was really big in this episode were the difficulties of a relationship. Tamara and Jake are having some issues since she still is trying to have that ideal life, but now that ideal life involves trying to change another person, and Jake is starting to grow tired of it. You see, Jake is running for class president and Tamara tries to take over as campaign manager. Thing is, Jake has won for all these years without her and her trying to take over bugs him, and the fact that she is trying to change him leads to them arguing. Which would make you think they would really get to the root of Tamara's issues, though I think we have done so before, but instead it just leads to Tamara maybe campaigning against him.
Then comes Jenna's relationship. As we already know, Jenna is in a place which we can only assume Colin has brought her to. With Matty she was bored, and now with Colin she seems to have gotten into more than she can handle. How you may ask? Well, she almost ends up in a threesome, which Colin's ex-girlfriend Angelique would have been a part of. Of course though, Jenna has alienated everyone so when she escapes who can she turn to? Pride has it where Tamara, Jake and Ming are out of the question. She just defied her parents grounding her, and Lacey even told her not to return, so who can she run to? Well, it ends up being Matty, making them really seem like end game doesn't it?
Making it so this episode was alright, but the idea of Matty and Jenna being inevitable is unfortunate. To me, at this point, the show seems to be leaning toward predictability. Just picture it though: Devon is Matty's current girlfriend and now with Jenna being single for the first time since the show started, or so it seems, she is back to looking at Matty from a distance like a puppy put outside the house. This makes Devon feel sorry for her to the point where, because she maybe too nice for her own good, she thinks Matty should give Jenna another chance. Matty isn't sure about this, but Devon says something to the effect of "she needs you" and I hope to GOD I am wrong.
Overall: honestly, I have mixed feelings about Jenna's rebellious phase. At first I was for it, but then it became so corny and horrible that it was hard to really like it. All of this though, I blame on them weakening Colin's character. If he stayed the artsy guy with all these odd and creative friends, I would have loved this evolution. However, they made it where Jenna seemed to be the main bit of his world, then had him be a stoner and someone who popped pills, and sort of made that the only thing we got out of his character. Thus making it seem, like I said in the last episode, like some corny after school special starring Ashley Rickards as Jenna Hamilton. It seems though they are going to revert to old Jenna, which should be interesting, and while I'm sure the writing for it will be awkward, that is the title of the show for a reason.
