Picking up Speed
dburney-8828313 October 2023
I've been catching up on AHS recently, watching seasons 10-11 for the first time and rewatching some of the older seasons. So far this season has felt very slow and drawn out, and i feel like the writers could have made these first 3 episodes into 1-1.5 episodes and cut off a lot of the fat. Maybe it will be more important down the line, who knows.

However, this fourth episode (Vanishing Twin), is giving the feeling that we are finally getting somewhere and delivered much more of what most of us expect when watching American Horror Story, with the flashbacks, introduction of new characters, and the episode ending with a twist that leaves you confused and excited to see where the hell they're going with this storyline. If the next episodes of this season follow the trajectory of this episode, I feel we may actually be in for a treat of a season after all, despite the slow start.

Finally getting some old school AHS vibes
lizt-0167413 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The intro to this episode was fantastic and captivating. Billy Lourd and Leslie Grossman as Ashley and Ashleigh or "Ashley's" was phenomenal. It was so good to get to see some old AHS actors back and I really hope we get to see a lot more of the Ashley's. They honestly killed it with what little time they had this episode, but yikes Siobhan's acting is so forced I can't take it anymore. Now I just mute when she's on screen and read the subtitles, yes she's that bad. Thankfully we didn't see much of her this episode! Ending left me wanting to know more, truly felt like we were going back to the old AHS.

Pickles & Ice Cream
chelseaspratlen13 October 2023
WHY WERE THE PICKLES AND ICE CREAM IN THE SAME AREA OF THE FRIDGE?? The ice cream wasn't melted, so it wasn't a fridge. Yet the pickles weren't frozen, so it wasn't a freezer. Y'all, this is bugging me so incredibly bad and I have no idea why. Otherwise, I feel like we're finally picking up speed and getting somewhere with the story. The ending was great. I just can't imagine why they would put the pickles and the ice cream together and expect us not to notice? Do pickles not freeze? Is there a new type of fridge that automatically keeps every individual item the temperature it needs to be? Baffling.

Lazy writing leads to the most hilarious scenes
ofbodin-966-4855202 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine trying to open a door, losing grip on the handle, stumbling backwards in a seated position and hit your head on a box and lose consciousness. Yes, that actually happens in this episode. Nothing is more annoying than when people have the same threshold for fainting as a spooked goat. It takes a slight knock to the head and then the main character is out of it for the next hour or so, apparently.

It's also becoming exhausting to see a Kardashian basically playing herself, with the stereotypical "b*tchy attitude" and that the main character simply can't stop hallucinating and seeing stuff nobody else sees all the time. HOW does she spend so much time alone anyways? She's supposed to be a celebrity, but she's also the biggest loner socially, in her relationship with her boyfriend, and in general.

Dialogues and interactions barely make sense. At what point will the writers tire of their own cliches?! Hyperbolic side characters with quirky or sassy lines is unoriginal, unauthentic and boring. This season bores me. The shock value of eating a rotting animal at the end of the episode does little to outweigh the confusing and slow pace of the main character's downward spiral of satanic pregnancy madness.

Better because of 2 characters
markocop14 October 2023
This episode really showed us that the writters were not lazy with the writting unlike last episode. The beginning timeline in 1555 was one of the highlights of the episode. The reason why i like this episode is that they gave each character a fair amount of screentime this time unlike the first 3 episodes where Emma/Anna appears in every scene, like the World revolves around her. Siobhan's or however she's called (Kim) motives are slighty being revealed which is a bit to early in the season but it's not bad. The biggest highlight of the episode were definitely the Ashleys (Ashley and Ashleigh), Leslie and Billie always had good chemistry and i can't wait to see their characters grow throughout the season. Huge step up from the previous episode where Anna was in every scene and no other character got their story except her.

Alright, we're making progress! I really enjoyed the initial flashback sequence; it's always a treat to revisit the past in American Horror Story. The entire episode was fantastic. Emma Roberts seems to have really settled into her role, and her performance was outstanding. Kim, Leslie, and Billie added some delightfully campy moments to this episode, which was a refreshing touch. As usual, the cinematography and score were top-notch. I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming mid-season finale next week! I hope they can resume filming soon because we're all eagerly anticipating the second part.

Okaayyy we're getting somewhere. Loved that whole opening with the flashback. It's always nice to see AHS flashbacks in the past. The whole episode was excellent. Emma Roberts finally found her foot in this role. She's great! Kim, Leslie and Billie gave us some campy moments which was much needed in this episode. The cinematography and the score, as always was amazing. So So excited for the mid season finale next week!!! Hope they can get back to filming asap cause we need that part 2 right now!!!

With help from Siobhan, a major announcement helps restore Anna's public image. Behind closed doors however, something powerful seems to be taking over. Written by Halley Feiffer; directed by John J. Gray.

Ave Satanas apparently
fincentwillighagen16 October 2023
Text: There is a clear development taking place underneath the surface, which is that evil in the small corners is creeping and growing larger to encompass us all! The horror aesthetic we have been waiting for really shone through in this episode. There have been very few other scenes in the series that had me as shocked; I could barely watch through the raccoon incident, it was on the verge of offensive (yet that is what makes a horror). AHS is back to its old tenet of anachronisms, that is, attributing qualities to historical characters or events with no footing in reality. Without spoiling it, the link to Apocalypse has now officially been consolidated.

After a minor hiccup last episode, Siobhan did much better this time! She is no angel or saint- that much is obvious, and her...activities with Hamish make us question her even more.

The Ashleys are perfectly dreadful, and it is obvious that they would happily bring about the end of times. Blond Leslie is especially menacingly amusing. Demons make the best jokesters apparently.

Character unlikability is still a major issue, and now we have Dexter's mother to irritate us even more! I did not deem it possible for anyone to be more of a nuisance than Dexter, yet here we are.

Pacing! Coherence! Work needs to be done to ensure that there is suspense throughout the episode, and that events are linked to one another. Plot unity has been an issue throughout the entire series.

Still, I must admit that this episode is a significant improvement from the last. 76/100 (from 63).

I watch a lot of horror
songod-9500320 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
From the black and white classics to modern films, I watch a load of horror. Nothing shocks me anymore.

However, the scene with Emma eating the rotted corpse of a raccoon had to be the grossest thing I have ever seen on screen! And I grew up with the "vomit bag" films like "Mark of the Devil" playing at the drive-in! (Rather have watched the Karloff films on late night!).

The last great season of AHS was Jessica Lange's season. "Freak Show" was terrific. Since then there have been bright spots ("Roanoke" was one) but mostly complete BS like "Cult" and the "Double Feature" where which neither story was fulfilling. Depending on how this plays out, this hopefully final season will end on a high.

I say hopefully final because the show needs to be put down! Over stayed it's welcome!
