Pilot episode

Elena makes this series. I loved Twilight and Smallville. Glad Laura got her own show. I enjoy it and hope the writing stays strong. I enjoy sub plots and back stories which I see developing already. I really like the opening sequence reminds me of Westworld. Has lots of characters and just right speed of development - not to fast not too slow. They give you something, but always leave you wanting more. Characters seem strong and engaging.

gorgeous leading lady
Kicks off with a sex scene. And I'm complaining? No, but scriptwriters should know better. When introducing the main character, she should win over the audience immediately. We should immediately bond with her, like her, because she should be shown to care about something. Could have been as little as a pet. Or maybe, as Elena the Wolf, refraining from blood sport murdering another poor innocent bunny. You get my general drift. This is a fantastically beautiful cool Nordic blonde, wow, let me not get into all of that too much, suffice to say she is The Dream, okay? But I found myself (just like I do with many movies but not so much with TV series) thinking that I am just not involved with her yet... she's so beautiful, so why do I not care yet?

Brings to mind BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Sarah Michelle Gellar is hardly on the screen, you care about Buffy Summers! You now understand what I mean?

So I'm not going to say "empty vacuous character" because that is standard Hater response. I'm simply giving (sadly belated) positive criticism.

What we have here, is a girl who can overshadow the memory of Pamela Anderson, in a script with way more revealing scenes than a red leotard. Yet BITTEN and Laura Vandervoort aren't exactly household names.

Which brings me back to my argument. This pilot episode shows something lacking. I'm not really involved with the character. That says it all. The creepy dead-looking wolves aren't that great either, obviously a lot of work, but they are just creepy. Not scary creepy, just dumb creepy.

But I'm not gonna bicker about fake wolves. Not with all that blond beauty running around in the altogether in the woods. (hey, in real life, girl leaves her outfit, designer high heels and all, stashed in a back alley, and when she comes back, it is still there?)

Anyway, with a beautiful leading lady like this, and bare-butt to boot, I'll be damned if I flunk it. Beauty-wise, Laura is a 10, the basic premise is an 8, the delivery is a 7, with minus points for shortcomings. Hence my average of 7. Count me in for all three seasons. Expect loads of disparaging future comments though, cause when I like something, I'm all too aware of its shortcomings.

Didn't Bite

I watched the pilot because I like the main actress and saw the 8,2 rating, quite high for a series. Watched the beginning, got disappointed by the cheap FX (I would rather see wolf-like dogs than the CGI ones), then the plot -or just the "more of the same" feeling- closed the deal. Tried to fast-forward to see if something was going to save it, watched some more here and there. Nope. Not for me, and I guess not for anyone that enjoys a good TV show. From the ones now on air on this same "genera" I could recommend True Blood, Lost Girl, Haven, and others but not Bitten. I was hoping to get "bitten" by Laura Vandervoort and get hooked by the series. Sadly, even with the gorgeous lead actress, it just didn't happen.
