Why the negativity? Heck of a closer. Hoping for S2

Warning: Spoilers
I legitimately don't understand the bad reviews for this episode. I thought it was a great closer with an ending that was genuinely surprising but not cheap and honestly well-earned. Ritchie kept the high levels of entertainment, while also injecting more drama and seriousness. The only part that bothered me was when you think a firefight's about to go down with The Gospel and his crew but then you find out the ENTIRE CREW somehow left without the mains knowing. Also there was a gunshot in the transition but not in the actual moment. Also the firefight would've been incredibly entertaining (but I'm glad it didn't happen for the sake of the story. However, horribly handled). But honestly, my only complaint. I fully expected that Eddie would stay in the game, but the show convinced me he wasn't, and then pulled the rug again. Well done, Ritchie. I loved this season, and I wouldn't be mad if they renewed it. In fact, I hope they do.

Exillerating 3 day ride ... whew!
woodvillelite-118 March 2024
The cast is the major incentive to continue to watch this series. Totally. Ingenius casting here. I loved that IMDB did not put how may episodes the actorw were in as to keep you guessing. Unsure who plays Gospel John's .. was it his brother?? WOW

I have to admit that the first episode hooks you and draws you in but then the next few you are wondering if this is a Dramady or a Comedrama ... it is really over the top in so many ways. You are lauging one minute than OMG'ing the next.

I was thinking about stopping but didnt .... I had to finish it fast and be done with it so 3 days later fiinished. Last scene .... predicable and a great ride to get there.

S1.E8 - Decent Episode to End the Season [8/10]

Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E8) My Live Reaction / Review for The Gentlemen Season 1 Episode 8 ''The Gospel According to Bobby Glass''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Oh boy, the Gospel is coming. I was hoping for a huge fight scene but nothing happened, that sucks. Nice to see more Esposito in this episode. Jack is still in a coma? That sucks. So now they wont to sell the business and also Eddie wants Johnston to go to prison, interesting. So is that it? Will there be a second season? I would watch it. Good performances overall by the actors. This episode was good and I enjoyed it. My rating is 8/10.

Business of Gentlemens

Im a little disappointed with that episode

We announced a potential killings with the guys who Susie told the truth about but its finally over with a misunderstanding : Eddie didnt revealed the real names so everything get back to normal .

After all that , the episode is just some talks , deals about money and business . So yeah a little bit disappointed about that. I thought also that Susie and Eddie will get together as a couple but it didnt happened .

So i enjoyed that final episode despite some things that i expected but it didnt come sadly .

I dont know if it will be a season 2 but i wil love to see anyway .

Do we care about any of these characters?
scott-donaldson10 April 2024
It is unfair to compare the series with the movie -- so often critics will score low any adaptation that lacks the power of the original. So I will start by saying that my disappointment did not come from there.

Even though Ritchie directed both the movie and the series, the movie is tighter and more cohesive. The series in my opinion is an example of style over substance.

Theo, portrays the lead character whose narrative arc begins as a soldier, lacks any apparent emotional or romantic connections, who drifts along a criminal path and wholeheartedly embraces ruthless murder by the end. Are we meant to cheer when his moral decay leads to the cold-blooded execution of his rivals?

The inclusion of the wonderful Giancarlo Esposito in the plot is wasted, as we are expected to believe that this criminal mastermind happily embraces imprisonment at the end. Really?

Others have commented on the comedrama elements of the series. However, Ritchie employs this technique lazily, and assumes the audience is fully onboard, happily embracing the nudges and winks. When there is no emotional investment in the characters however, no one cares.

Meh ending
quanghuy-6136526 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I liked most episodes except for this final one. The storyline here did not seem natural at all.

Eddie kept switching allies for no clear reasons. Henry Collins had to go overboard to please the Glass siblings which didn't make sense considering their weakened status. Stanley Johnston made important offers for all remaining Lords VIA PHONE CALLS and got tricked easily (?) despite having been portrayed as an extremely careful man throughout the series. Mercy (the supercar dealer) was charmed into buying a drug empire by a Duke within seconds of introduction despite not having any ties with this business before. The motivation of everyone just doesn't make any sense!

Also the Duke's passion for owning a weed-producing empire seems to have come from nowhere. Since the beginning of the series Eddie has been fighting hard to free his family from the drug empire, citing his love for Freddy & his entire family in every single episode and fearing that his family would be harmed if they remain in this business. Now within this one last episode, he suddenly changes his ambition and wants to become a kingpin without considering his family future. This is even more insane and weird considering the fact that his little sister Charlotte has just returned home pregnant... Overall a terrible very disappointing storyline, not matching the quality of previous episodes at all.

Hmmm... ending but series still 8/10 from me.
softsofa13 March 2024
Series ends with an unbelievable sequence of events that sews up the stories of each of the baddies. The likelihood of all those events occurring together is as likely as a meteoroid striking your noggin as you're turning in your winning lottery jackpot ticket .

Ridiculous final episodes ruin most series. However, Ritchie has lots of rabbits in his hat. Here, he squeezes one of those earful furball squeakers until sweet, sweet nectar oozes out. This is why I always give anything with his name on it a look. I'm seldom disappointed.

So, while this episode is a letdown, it doesn't reduce the overall entertainment value of the series.

Decent show with a dumb ending.
js-jonk19 March 2024
That ending was pretty damn terrible. I liked the show but I keep thinking about how dumb this writing was. Classic: revisit all the characters from the show in one final hurrah where everything comes together spectacularly. I guess this works in Snatch when it's the final 10 minutes but not in an hour long episode. It felt like they did't take their audience seriously at all. I wasn't looking forward to this show at first because of Ritchie's penchant for arrogant violent characters with no redeemable qualities but I actually liked most of the show. Characters were well thought out and brilliantly acted with the obvious witty writing you'd expect. But it all came crashing down in that final episode of dumb plot writing.
