Ever wonder just how realistic a big screen bank heist is? Well, there’s really only one way to find out – Ok, two, but we don’t recommend participating in one – and that’s by asking an actual bank robber. According to Cain Vincent Dyer, who took part in over 100 bank robberies over the course of two-and-a-half years, the one from 1991’s Point Break is a 10/10 example…even if it did have its flaws.
Dyer heaped much praise on the time frame that the group laid out in Point Break, saying 90 seconds would be ideal for grabbing and going before the police arrive. “Typically, once you go into a bank and the alarm is set, depending on where law enforcement is in relation to the bank, it’ll typically take about a minute and a half. You have a group of guys that are all going after the drawers, and...

The trailer for Guardians showcases Russia’s answer to Marvel movie epics with wanton destruction...
At first glance, the trailer for Guardians showcases elements seemingly lifted directly out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ensemble filmmaking playbook. Glaringly dubbed in English, the Guardians trailer does – for what it’s worth – manage to successfully replicate the Whedon-esque "amusement park attraction with a plot" paradigm with some exciting comic-book-y action.
The film centers on a secret Soviet-era super-team who are reactivated when a group of mysterious, heavily-armed militants with missile-firing spider-robots proves too much for the Russian army to handle. The heroic superhero ensemble appears to be a formidable collection of comic-style killers with characters (whose names I'm about to make up) The Winter Whiplash, Mask-less Bane Guy, Soviet Sue Storm, Beardy Giant Fist Man and, the most prominent of them all… Bear in Cargo Pants!

Besides turning up in a Wes Anderson production every now and then, Adrien Brody has been something of a ghost to mainstream moviegoers. I promise he’s still acting, just in movies that have struggled to find wider audiences. You know, like Dragon Blade or American Heist? *crickets* The quasi blockbuster hunk of yesteryear seems to be toying with indie experimentation as of late, picking Michael Petroni’s Backtrack as his latest attempt at underground success. Will this be the Adrien Brody vessel that floats to the top instead of sinking to a dark, watery grave? No, it won’t – but that’s not necessarily the actor’s fault.
The once Predator huntin’ Brody stars as Peter Bower, a psychiatrist who’s struggling to cope with his daughter Evie’s (Emma O’Farrell) unexpected death. Clientele come and go, but all Bower can do is replay the same gruesome scene on repeat,...

Given the title of the film, you could be fooled into thinking that Scott Mann’s upcoming actioner Heist was a full remake of David Mamet’s 2001 film of the same name – alas, the reality is somewhat more disappointing.
Yahoo Movies has debuted the maiden trailer for Mann’s thriller. Starring Robert De Niro, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Guardians of the Galaxy alum Dave Bautista, Heist orbits around the attempts of two men desperate to rob De Niro’s crime boss, The Pope. Channeling the fast-editing and style of Ocean’s Eleven in the beginning, the trailer then switches abruptly to high-speed pursuit, with Mann’s actioner – originally titled Bus 657 – switching gears into all-out hostage thriller.
It’s a tense situation that plays out similarly to Keanu Reeves’ Speed only with less flair and even less Keanu Reeves, and the general feeling of been there, done that doesn’t have us too optimistic.

A conversation occurs midway through Sarik Andreasyan’s “American Heist,” in which a thug quotes Thomas Jefferson, his favorite Us president; “The banking institutions are more dangerous than the army.” Our mind immediately calls back to Brad Pitt’s closing monologue in “Killing Them Softly,” where he singles out the very same Jefferson as a hypocrite, guilty for founding America as a business. Some films have a tendency to comment scathingly on an allegedly corrupt American financial system, dispelling the myth of the American dream with eager cynicism (most especially certain films that call attention to these critiques by including the word ‘American’ in their title. Some, like Andrew Dominik’s exceptionally colloquial piece, artfully unravel the fabric of this culture through intelligent and subtle cinematic means, while others tear into the very same fabric with a blunt instrument until the viewer is left exasperated. Andreasyan’s film doesn’t waste much time in firmly.

Heist thrillers are a dime a dozen, but American Heist sets itself apart with a pretty terrific cast. Golden Globe nominee Hayden Christensen (Star Wars), Oscar winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist) and Fast & Furious actress Jordana Brewster lead the pic, which also stars Akon, Tory Kittles and Rachel Bilson. Today, We Got This Covered is pleased to unveil an exclusive clip from the movie, which unfolds as the titular heist gets a little bit trickier due to an unexpected complication.
Though the plot of American Heist is nothing particularly revolutionary, the trailer suggests the potential for a fast-paced action-thriller that knows exactly what it’s setting out to achieve and does just that – which is frankly fine by me. Sarik Andreasyan directed the pic, which debuted during the Toronto International Film Festival last year.

Sneak Peek: Hayden Christensen and Jordana Brewster Look Really Hot in a Bathtub Together—Watch Now!
We're not really sure what Hayden Christensen and Jordana Brewster are talking about in this exclusive first look at their new movie, American Heist, but it really doesn't matter because the two look so darn hot taking a bath together. The former Star Wars star shows his bare chest (hello tattoo!) as Brewster leans against him as she seemingly lays between his legs in an old bathtub that looks like it's located in some sort of tranquil garden. Candles help set the mood, but there's also a bit of gritty edge as the two sip beer straight from the bottle. The Sarik Andreasyan-directed drama focuses on James (Christensen), a young man who is trying to get on with his life after his older brother...

“Star Wars: is the gift that keeps on giving for Hayden Christensen, whose international fanbase has helped him win the lead role in Paramount’s fantasy action movie “Marco Polo,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap. Paramount had no comment. “The Fast and the Furious” filmmaker Rob Cohen is directing “Marco Polo,” which is a co-production between Paramount and China Film Group, though other Chinese companies such as Yuehua Entertainment, Phoenix Entertainment and Huahua Film & Media Culture are co-producing the project. First and foremost, what is likely to end up being the biggest blockbuster of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron, has scored a PG-13 ratings for "intense sequences of sci-fi action, violence and destruction, and for some suggestive comments." This isn't too much different than the PG-13 rating for The Avengers, which was for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, and a mild drug reference. Sounds like there may be a little more destruction and -- oh, la, la -- some suggestive comments. This week's bulletin also has a PG-13 rating for Cameron Crowe's new movie Aloha starring Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone and we also have a PG-13 for Before We Go, directed by and starring Avengers star Chris Evans and Star Trek Into Darkness co-star Alice Eve. Nancy Meyers has a new movie coming this year called The Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway...

I don’t know what happened with Adrien Brody, but after he won that Best Actor Oscar for The Pianist his career took a nose dive, and he started making bad movies. The most recent thing that I saw him in was History Channel’s Houdini, and I liked him in it. But other than that he hasn’t done anything decent in years. Now he’s got a new movie coming out called American Heist, which doesn’t look very promising.
The movie also stars Hayden Christensen, who is best known for his role of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, and Jordana Brewster from the Fast and Furious franchise. So this movie is packed full of great talent! Here’s the synopsis:

Everyone loves movie trailers; we can’t get enough of them here in The City of Films. It’s an art form that stands alone from the film itself and has a remarkable power to move us. Trailers can give us chills, laughs, goose bumps and sometimes even anger us. We can’t always post them all, so here’s where we play catch up; it’s Graham’s Trailer Roundup!
Peter Pan Live!
Synopsis: NBC’s live telling of the boy who never grew up.
Starring: Allison Williams, Christopher Walken
Release: Thursday, December 4 at 8/7c on NBC
Trailer Analysis: NBC’s Sound of Music Live! was a ratings success so they are trying to capture that again with an even more popular (depending on which generation you belong to) story. I just want to see Walken sing and dance.

Today we have an international trailer for the upcoming "American Heist" crime thriller, starring Hayden Christensen, Adrien Brody, Jordana Brewster and Akon. Check it out below. Plot: James (Christensen) has a checkered past, but he's trying to put his life on the straight and narrow. He has a decent job in an auto shop, plans to start his own business, and there's even the promise of love on the horizon. But one day, before his dream can become a reality, he opens his front door to find his older brother Frankie (Brody), recently released from a ten-year stretch in prison. Frankie has some money-making strategies of his own, and he needs James to help him one last time . in a spectacularly elaborate bank heist. Even though it's Frankie's influence that James is trying to escape, he finds himself drawn into the unsavory plan due to a combination of guilt, greed,...

Joke all you want about Hayden Christensen‘s performances in the Star Wars prequels, but the guy has some chops. Sure, those two films weren’t great, but around the same time he crushed Life as a House and Shattered Glass, two highly underrated films. Since then he hasn’t exactly stayed in the spotlight, choosing to only […]

Voltage Pictures has released the international trailer for American Heist, which is a cliché wrapped in a stereotype inside a generic slice of convention.
Bundling together every known trope of the action thriller genre, the footage follows Hayden Christensen and Adrien Brody, two bickering brothers who find themselves united by a common goal: that one last job. With Brody’s Frankie fresh out of prison after serving a ten-year sentence, the only person he can truly depend on is James (Christensen), who is struggling to get his life together with his girlfriend, played here by Fast Five‘s Jordana Brewster.
American Heist initially debuted during the Toronto Film Festival and is directed by Sarik Andreasyan. From the trailer, we’ve tapered our own expectations for the crime drama, but hey, we’ll leave the ultimate verdict to you.

The thing that struck me about this trailer for American Heist is not the generic name of the movie or even what it's about but the knowledge that Hayden Christensen is still making movies and that Adrien Brody is still trying to develop his bad guy persona.
Christensen and Brody star as law breaking brothers James and Frankie respectively. When Frankie gets out of his latest stint of jail time, he brings his brother, now trying to live a quiet, crime-free life, into his circle of badassness and the pair are embroiled, one more reluctantly than the other, in a bank robbery.
There are weird tattoos, Brody talking all gangster-like, American muscle cars, Jordana Brewster playing the unsuspecting girl friend and Akon as a bad guy. It's all pretty generic but there are some great [Continued ...]...

"Banks are an essential threat to our democracy, so consider this justice." After winning an Academy Award for The Pianist, it's unfortunate that the career of Adrien Brody has mostly derailed. I couldn't even tell you the last time I saw a great movie with Brody in it, and that doesn't look to change with this international trailer for the Tiff selected American Heist. All the cliches of a crime thriller are on display, and while Hayden Christensen doesn't seem all that bad for once, this just looks like it's trying to be Heat meets Fast Five (they even got Jordana Brewster on board), but not nearly as good as either. Here's the international trailer for Sarik Andreasyan's American Heist from Voltage Pictures: American Heist is directed by Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan and written by Raul Inglis (Transparency, Suddenly). As the final acquisition deals roll in on Toronto’s 2014 film festival movies, a couple of overriding themes emerged that bode well for the appetite for indie fare and have sellers smacking their lips for Afm, Sundance, Berlin and beyond. In a fest where Harvey Weinstein left his checkbook home and didn’t make a single splashy deal, I have never seen so many new players make statement buys at a festival than happened in Toronto.
The other intriguing development came on the fest’s biggest deal, when Paramount Pictures swooped into the auction of the Chris Rock-directed comedy Top Five, and blew buyers out of the water by paying $12.5 million for worldwide rights. It was the second straight fest where Paramount did this, after the studio made a precedent-setting pre-buy Cannes deal for the Denis Villeneuve-directed Amy Adams sci-fi film Story Of Your Life. A conversation occurs midway through Sarik Andreasyan’s “American Heist,” in which a thug quotes Thomas Jefferson, his favorite Us president; “The banking institutions are more dangerous than the army.” Our mind immediately calls back to Brad Pitt’s closing monologue in “Killing Them Softly” where he singles out the very same Jefferson as a hypocrite, guilty for founding America as a business. Some films have a tendency to comment scathingly on an allegedly corrupt American financial system, dispelling the myth of the American dream with eager cynicism (most especially certain films that call attention to these critiques by including the word ‘American’ in their title. Some, like Andrew Dominik’s exceptionally colloquial piece, artfully unravel the fabric of this culture through intelligent and subtle cinematic means, while others tear into the very same fabric with a blunt instrument, until the viewer is left exasperated. Andreasyan’s film doesn’t waste much time in firmly.

Exclusive: In a bid to drive acquisitions, Toronto top brass are understood to be collaborating with select sales agents to allow festival staff and volunteers to attend four early-stage private buyers screenings.
Screendaily has learned the move is being orchestrated to replicate the buoyant atmosphere of public screenings in an effort to stir up sales.
The timing of the move is dictated by a growing recognition that most decision-makers at distribution companies will have left town by the time these films officially premiere in the second week, despite Toronto’s efforts to spread its riches across the duration of the festival.
That strategy was informed in part by the festival’s new and well documented policy of holding back until the second week premieres of anticipated films that will receive their actual world premiere in Telluride.
