Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.
Also via Hulu in February comes the third season of Abbott Elementary, along with new episodes of The Connors, The Good Doctor, Will Trent,...

Channel 4 is developing a version of The Food Network’s sabotage cooking show Cutthroat Kitchen.
According to The Sun, the UK broadcaster is working with Warner Bros.-owned First Dates indie Twenty Twenty on a version of the show that ran for 15 seasons in the U.S. A Channel 4 insider said the show is still in the development stage and has not been officially greenlit.
Hosted by Alton Brown, Cutthroat Kitchen ran in the U.S. for 15 seasons and nearly 200 episodes across four years on the Food Network. It features four chefs competing in a three-round elimination cooking competition with a twist – they are given $25,000 at the start and face auctions in which they can purchase opportunities to ‘sabotage’ one another. The last person standing keeps whatever money they have not spent in the auctions.

Valerie Bertinelli Reveals That Food Network Canceled ‘Valerie’s Home Cooking’: “I Have No Idea Why”
Valerie Bertinelli says that the upcoming 14th season for her Food Network show Valerie’s Home Cooking will be its last.
The star took to Instagram on Saturday to share a video of herself promoting the new episodes, which start airing Sunday. She went on to reveal that Food Network informed her last year that the show had been canceled, and she expressed her disappointment over not being clear on what had spurred the decision.
“The bad news is that it’s its final season,” Bertinelli said. “Yeah, Food Network canceled us last summer. I have no idea why. I didn’t say anything last summer because, honestly, I was hoping they would change their mind. (Laughs.) But they have not, so this is it. This is the final season. I have loved making this show. It was such a dream come true. Every single part of it brought me so much joy.

Flavortown is back — and it’s better than ever.
Guy Fieri returns to the Food Network this week with a new cooking game show, “Guy’s Ultimate Game Night.” The series, which is the beloved host’s fourth show with the network, is stacked with celebrity guests such as Alyssa Milano, Penn and Teller and Natasha Leggero, who will compete in food-related games and trivia for a chance to win a prize for their favorite charity. A trailer that came out earlier this month sees contestants playing classics like charades and hot potato, garnishing a pizza to resemble Guy Fieri and blind-decorating a cake.
Supporting Fieri in his hosting duties is chef Antonia Lofaso, a fan-favorite fixture on Bravo’s “Top Chef,” “Chopped” and “Cutthroat Kitchen.”
“If you put a game show, late night talk show and a food competition show in a blender, you get ‘Guy’s Ultimate Game Night,’” Fieri said in a statement.

I've watched most of them, despite the fact that I once set my kitchen on fire cooking something frozen (true story). “Top Chef,” “Chopped” and “Cutthroat Kitchen” alum chef Antonia Lofaso is the head judge of Food Network and Discovery Plus’ upcoming primetime cooking competition “The Julia Child Challenge.” It’s important to make that title clear up front as, though Lofaso is the vibrant live chef in the room with the contestants, the vibrant Julia Child herself serves as host via a giant screen playing classic black-and-white footage of the food icon hosting “The French Chef” in the center of a kitchen modeled to look just like her own.
And if the show didn’t have that literal larger-than-life component at its core, president of Food Network and streaming food content at Discovery Courtney White tells Variety she wouldn’t have picked up “The Julia Child Challenge.”

Hey, remember when they released that picture of the CGI movie Sonic the Hedgehog and it was so freakish and unnerving that animators had to work overtime to fix it? Anywho, Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to Hulu this month.
The heroic blue hedgehog who just wants to go fast is far from the only exciting new film or TV show coming to Hulu in February 2021. The library titles are unusually packed this month. In addition to Sonic, the sublimely goofy Mars Attacks!, 2020 horror film Possessor, and the first six Star Trek films all arrive on Feb. 1. Later on in the month are Antebellum (Feb. 5) and Nomadland (Feb. 19).
It’s a good thing that the library titles are strong because Hulu isn’t brining many originals of note to the table in February 2021. Into the Dark continues on its spooky mission with the Valentine-centric Tentacles dropping on Feb. 12. That will...

“Good Eats” makes its long-awaited return to Food Network on Sunday with the premiere of “Good Eats: The Return,” the on-the-nose title of Season 15 of Alton Brown’s beloved science-meets-cooking show.
Both the cable channel and Brown have been promoting the stuffing out of the show’s new episodes, with Food Network launching the premiere early online and the celebrity cook hosting a Reddit Ama this week, plus fielding many, many fan questions on Twitter.
And with this level of enthusiasm for the return of “Good Eats,” we had to ask Brown why he stopped making the show, which ran from 1999 to 2012, in the first place — and why he finally decided to bring it back.
“It’s a complicated question,” Brown told TheWrap. “I stopped not because the network wanted me to stop or anybody else wanted me to stop; I kind of wanted to take a break for a few years.

Ready, set … relax! It’s “The Great British Baking Show” (or “Bake Off”), of course. It speaks to the very heart of my Anglophilia, but I’m also someone who doesn’t normally watch any baking or competition shows. I am, however, a devotee of “Gbbo” It is perhaps the most serene and happiest show on television, and so different from American (or even UK) series of a similar vein. The judges are hard but fair, everyone is so encouraging, and there is never a desire to humiliate anyone. “You are usually so good, you just let yourself down a little,” is the worst one might hear when presenting a disaster of a showstopper.

How nice! If you're a Food Network fan, you know there are a myriad of role models in the industry. But The Kitchen star Geoffrey Zakarian looks up to one in particular: Alton Brown. Closer Weekly caught up with Geoffrey, 59, at an event on Tuesday, Sept. 25 for the Zakarian Pro For Home Non-Stick Cast Iron Cookware collection — out Oct. 28 on QVC — at his Midtown NYC restaurant, The Lambs Club, where he gushed over who he looks up to in the "food world." "It has to be some of the people who have really lasted, and lasted in a good way. Alton Brown is so smart. He’s so creative and he’s so interesting. Alton is like the king. He’s so much fun in person," Geoffrey — who is a chef/partner of Point Royal at The Diplomat Beach Resort — gushed. "When we do Iron Chef and we're on a...

One show that you must watch if you’re a foodie or just into watching cooking shows is Cutthroat Kitchen. The show is just brutal when it comes down to what can be done to sabotage the chefs and how willing each chef is to trip the other up. In some ways it’s kind of satisfying to watch a chef get sabotaged and then in another it’s funny to see a chef sabotaging another only to get voted off in a twisted display of karmic justice. In any case Alton is the guy to really watch out for since his sabotages

“Downton Abbey” and “The Great British Baking Show” may not appear to have much in common beyond their country of origin. After all, one is a soapy period drama set in early 1900s England, while the other is a modern reality competition series centered on creating delicious baked treats.

Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen is a weekly show that features a cooking competition between four chefs who are vying for the number one spot. There are three rounds and at the end of each round, one chef is eliminated. Each is given $25,000 at the beginning of the show. They must use the money wisely to purchase necessary ingredients and equipment at auctions to create their dishes. The last chef standing gets to keep whatever money is left. The series has been on the Network since 2013 and has grown in popularity among culinary enthusiasts, but what goes on behind

America’s favorite scientist Bill Nye is returning to television—and Food Network chef Alton Brown will be one of his special guest stars.
In the trailer for the new Netflix series — Bill Nye Saves the World — Brown and Nye can be seen laughing in an enormous laboratory, while Brown holds a beaker filled with a yellow liquid, which we can predict will likely be a super cool culinary experiment.

If Food Network has proven anything over the last few years, it’s that it knows how to take advantage of holidays. To get your in the mood for Halloween, there’s a special Cutthroat Kitchen headed your way. The show is plenty of fun on its own, though some of the specials have gone a little silly with the things people end up having to do, but you can’t go too far when it’s Halloween.
It’s a five-episode tournament that kicks off on September 28th, and ends with a finale episode where the four winners battle it out.
Host Alton Brown won’t be holding anything back, and it isn’t just foods with appropriately “scary” names (blood oranges, Devil’s Food cake) that come into play here. The challenges are also Halloween-themed, like cooking while in outlandish costumes, and using creepy knives.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, the Cutthroat Kitchen host was asked to explain the difference between being a real chef and being a Food Network star, and he couldn't help but go off in, well, cutthroat fashion. "It's funny. On Food Network Star, I got so tired of hearing people tell me that the reason they should have their own show is that they love food so much. Well, so freaking what?" he fumes. "I love food. We all love food. If we don't, we die. Even supermodels in New York...

On the surface, I am not the ideal Cutthroat Kitchen viewer. I cook rarely, and poorly; I almost never watch the Food Network, or shows about food; the dish that I prepare best is Maruchan Ramen (Beef Flavor). And yet over the past few weeks, I have watched dozens of hours of Cutthroat, one episode after another, like links of sausage tied together at the ends. I can’t stop. The show completed its eighth season (in two years' time) on Sunday, and this evening, a spinoff version called Camp Cutthroat premieres. In the time that I’ve spent watching Cutthroat Kitchen and will spend watching Camp, I could have learned to cook like a professional chef. And yet I’m still watching. You should be, too. Cutthroat Kitchen is delirious, consistently entertaining television. What makes it so satisfying, even to someone who does not enjoy cooking or cooking shows?...

There are a couple of ingredients you need to make any good cooking competition show on TV. But it seems if you aren't a part of the Food Network or named Gordon Ramsay or Tom Colicchio, you may struggle to find them in your pantry. For three-plus seasons, amused fans of Alton Brown’s deliciously devious Food Network cooking competition Cutthroat Kitchen have watched chefs from around the country struggle to create tasty dishes under comically challenging circumstances. Stuff like handling sharp knives and delicate ingredients while wearing a toy Incredible Hulk fist, or crafting Bananas Foster from teeny-weeny banana candies — hardships foisted on them by fellow competitors, all of whom started out with $25,000 to spend judiciously (or not) on the silly sabotages in an effort to be the last chef standing with their cooking cred intact and a few bucks in their pocket. … Continue reading →

Food Network Star is a show that represents a bizarre high and low for me. If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably already know my take on the show, and what happens afterward. The short version is that while I actually love the competition show itself, it never (almost) ends up with a person that I would ever watch, and that’s almost always because the person I would actually watch gets cut fairly early.
On the other side of the coin, the show becomes less interesting to me (as do all reality competitions) the more we move into the category of contestants who already own restaurants, or otherwise have a fairly decent food-related career. But, that’s just me.
At any rate, the show has some new twists this time around, and the competition is going on the road.
