To see Joe Pesci and Oscar De La Hoja in this little gem made this movie a total winner for me. Beautifully photographed and well put together - a great watch.

Absolutely loved this film.... so true...this documentary allows the viewer an inside look at the emotions and feelings of the owners, trainers and jockeys combined.. the emotions each of them went through with these amazing animals, from beginning to end. How sad this industry was misunderstood... parlty because it grew so quickly and gave so much to our country at a bleek time, and then was left to only those who had a real love and heart for these spectacular animals and this great sport...Thank you to all who put this film together.

Going to the Kentucky Derby is on my "bucket list". A bit odd, because I know nothing about this sport or "world". Yet each time, I look forward watching the stories and the anticipation of that brief rush, right from my living room.

Watching this film taught me so much. To understand the tremendous time and commitment by so many behind it. Their unwavering love of the "athlete" and the respect of its history and tradition. "Heart" is a word used in the film, and clearly conveyed, as it touched mine. Thank you to the Giardino family for bringing awareness to those who don't expect, yet deserve. This includes you.

I have always enjoyed watching the Big races and have only been to the track a handful of times but never understood what went into the sport of horse racing in terms of the love of the animals and the caring that went into these magnificent creatures by the owners, managers and jockeys. This look behind the gate was beautifully photographed. It entertained and educated me on the "sport of kings". Would recommend.

I just loved every minute of this film! I will watch it again with my friends and family because I learned so much about horse racing and found it incredibly interesting. I happen to love horses but you do not need to love horses to love this documentary. It will no doubt make you want to go to a racetrack after seeing everything that goes on BEHIND THE GATES!!! A must see!!

Brought back memories of going to the track with my dad! Great cast, beautiful cinematography!! Well done! Held my interest the entire time. Thanks for the insight of what goes on before a race ever takes place.....again, thank you for the memories!

More than pretty horses

This film has a great cinematic look and feel. Although it looks beautiful , it is also entertaining and informative. I learned more about what happens behind the scenes of a sport I love. The horses truly are athletes. The team behind the gates are also vital. I loved the look, the story and the journey the film takes the viewer on. Would love to see a part 2 that focuses on more horses' careers and less on the owners per se.

Great and informative. Beautifully photographed and tells it all from top to bottom. Older historic footage with the greatest horses of all time interwoven with modern and current footage is fabulous. Looks like the filmmakers did their job in bringing this gem to the screen. This is the real deal of a film filled with the love of horses to how to bet, how train and loving care for the horses. Awesome interviews from the greatest horsemen is the industry. Kudos to the filmmakers. JW

Behind - "Behind the Gate"

A real look behind the gate of horse racing. Cinematography is beautiful. Watching Home Journey's races and learning about her story was interesting. Also seeing the jockeys, handlers etc made me realize how well the horses are treated. Great job on story, editing and cinematography. Would have loved to see more horses' careers followed. Overall would recommend.

This film is full of information about the personal lives of horse trainers and how they do what they do. Behind the Gate sparked an interest in horse racing 'I never felt before. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
