A Bit Slapdash But Overall Still Compelling
zkonedog22 October 2023
On one hand, The Game That Changed Everything feels a little slapdash--almost as if FOX thought "hey, we have David Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez, and Derek Jeter in our studio--let's throw something together!". It clocks in at just 45 minutes and many contributors are only voices over the phone instead of actual interview footage.

On the other hand, the subject here--Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS--is compelling enough to be easily watchable. This is especially true when hearing from figures like Mariano Rivera & Dave Roberts "in the flesh". One could make the case that G4 is a top 5 game in the history of MLB, and that's the focus all the way through here.

So, overall I land on an 8/10 star ranking for The Game That Changed Everything. Could it have been a spectacular, prestige-type doc? Yep. Is it? Nope. But for the quick-hitter it is, the subject is strong enough to hold interest nearly 20 events after the events depicted.
